Alex sighed. "What is it?" he asked.

"You take Eli back, I stay out of your life for good. Deal?" She knew Eli wouldn't let that happen, but it was worth a shot.
"One: I am not making deals over Eli. How would that even sound? I'm dating you because I don't want your sister around. Yeah. Not good. Two: What makes you think I don't like you?" Alex asked.
Amanda continued, "Okay, scratch that. You take Eli back, no exceptions. She's here crying over you, here listen." She held the phone in midair and you could here Eli wailing in the background. "Not pretty." Amanda responded not acknowledging why she thought he didn't like her.
Alex winced when he heard the crying. "Yeah?" he said, stuggling to keep his voice even, "Well, I didn't break up with me. She did. And I refuse to look like some pathetic guy who can't take no for an answer. I don't beg. I never have, and I never will. She broke up with me for a reason. One I didn't and still don't understand, but still. That reason's not gone. What makes you think anything's going to change? Or, did you and Eli set this up because you two enjoy making making me love you and then stomping on my feelings like you would a cockroach?" Alex said, some bitterness creeping into his voice.
Amanda winced at the bitterness in his remarks. She had no intention of playing a trick on Alex. "Okay, well just answer me this one question: Do you love Eli?"
"Yes." Alex answered, his voice barely loud enough to hear.
"Well then I don't see why it's so hard to take her back." Amanda said.
"She broke up with me Amanda. If she wants to get back with me, she'll talk to me. I'm sorry, but I'm just not comfortable with plotting with her younger sister." Alex said.
"Okay, fine. Speak to her." Amanda handed the phone to Eli. Eli wiped her tears and said, "Hello?"
Alex couldn't take it anymore. He hanged up quickly before he lost any dignity by rambling on about how much he loved her.
Eli looked at the phone, shrugged, then hung up. "Who was on the phone?" she asked Amanda, "They hung up."Amanda had a sad look on her face, "It doesn't matter." she said, "It's not important anymore."
Alex squeezed his eyes shut, and tried to burry every single emotion he had in the back of his mind. He still had to figure out how to get the demons out of town, and he couldn't afford to be distracted. But it was pointless. Everything that had happened in the past weeks came crashing down on him, and he found himself curled up on his couch, crying, and trying to pull himself together. Telling himself things like: You don't need Eli. and You can figure out out by yourself.. But none of that seemed to make a difference.
Eli nodded then proceeded to go watch some televsion. Some good old tv would help her get her mind off things. Amanda sat next to her.
After a few minutes, Alex managed to put every single thing he was feeling behind a mental wall again, and was mentally kicking himself for being to weak to hold it up. After this was done, his crying stopped, and his head cleared, and he was able to focus. First things first. he thought, and he walked out of his house and to Eli's house. Once he was there, he knocked on the door.
Eli got up to get the door and answered it. She wiped a tear from her eye and opened the door to see Alex. She didn't know what to say or do, so she just let him come in.
"Ok. So. I know you broke up with me, and I fully intend to respect your decision." that was probably the most painful thing he'd ever said, but he kept it off his face as he said, "But, I would like and explanation as to why we broke up, because that was something that I never fully understood."
Eli went to the couch, told Amanda to get out then sat down. "Please, sit Alex. We have a lot to talk about." she said.
Alex sat, curious to hear what she had to say.
Eli turned and faced Alex. She started talking, "I broke up with you because I wanted no problems in my life. That was selfish of me, because with everything comes a few problems. It was wrong of me to break up with you and I would like your forgiveness, and possibly to be given a second chance."
"You do know that the problems aren't going to stop? Problem after problem have been my life forever." Alex asked.
"I do. I just don't think that's a good enough reason to break up with you." Eli stated matter-of-factly.
"And...you want a second chance?" Alex asked, trying to make sure he completely understood what she was saying.
Before his mind told him to get up, Alex was already up as he kissed Eli, and then just held her as he said, "Of course."
Eli kissed him back and hugged him tight.
"Eli, I love you." Alex whispered without quite realizing it.
"I love you, too." Eli said, meaning it.
Alex held her close to him. "Eli, I'm sorry about everything." he said.
"No, I'm sorry." Eli said. Just then Amanda walked in, "Can I come in now?" she said, before realizing she was interupting something. "Oh my bad." she said, backing out.
"Eli, can I ask you something?" Alex asked.
"Anything." Eli said still hugging Alex.
"Why does Amanda think I hate her?" he asked.
"I don't know. Wanna ask her? Amanda!" she screams. Amanda walks in, "What is it? I was in the middle of reading?"
"I already asked her once." Alex said, but nonetheless, he turned around and faced Amanda. "What makes you think I hate you?" he asked her.
Amanda stared at him, not blinking, "Because I ruined your life." she said in a serious tone.
Alex blinked, confused. "How?" he asked.
Alex couldn't help it. He tried, he really tried, but he couldn't help it: he burst out laughing.
Amanda was confused, "Is that funny?" she asked.Eli even let go of him a little, "Yeah, Alex. What's so funny?" she said.
Alex shook his head. "I'm sorry, really. It's just...how things could get so mixed up..." Alex took a deep breath to steady his laughter, and a second later, he had stopped laughing, but he was still smiling. "Amanda: Yes, you paid the hunter to kiss me, but no, it is not your fault. She's a hunter! She would have turned the town upside down until she found a vampire, and eventually she would have found me, with or without your help. And two: you didn't ruin my life. My life's better with you in it."
Amanda looked at him in shock. Now she was the one laughing, "You're really funny Alex! You know that?" she said, smiling.
"Why?" Alex asked, interested. He didn't think he was very funny.
"You believe that I'm innocent! Come on? I almost got you killed! I wasn't so nice back then. How did I make your life better?" Amanda asked confused.
"Allow me to explain then," Alex said. "You give me something to care about. Both you and Eli. But, you specifically, Amanda? You make me laugh. I also admire how you try to help all the time. You don't let your age stop you, and it's admirable. It makes me think about things in my life. Before I met you, I probably wouldn't have gone to meet the slayer. I probably would have just tried to wait her out. But you gave me the courage and the reason to go and at least try to do something about her."
Amanda stared at him in awe. "I make you laugh? I didn't know that was possible." she smiled.Eli smiled at her sis, "Yeah Amanda. You're an okay kid."
Alex chuckled. "Yeah. So, just to be clear: I do not, nor have I ever, hated you, ok?"
Amanda nodded, "Okay, Alex. I believe you. Now can I go?" she asked Eli."Yeah, sure." Eli replied.
Amanda left, smiling.
"Where's she going?" Alex asked Eli once Amanda had left.
"She was in the middle of reading when I called her." Eli explained. "It sounds like you really like Amanda. She seems to like you back, that's a good sign."
