Or do you guys want to play "Guess the band name?""
I don't wanna guess! Tell me, tell me, tell me. :)
Wang Chung? Brandi Carlile?
Why do I get the idea mine's bound to go over like the proverbial turd in the punchbowl?

Clark, if everyones' shebangs were the same kind of music, it would be BORING.
Again, Wang Chung, so sorry...

"To Live and Die in L.A."? Thought that was a pretty good song.

Of course, it follows ABBA's "Summer Night City" so you might turn the CD off in horror before you get any farther... ;)

Ah, that ain't so bad. But how exactly does one "Wang Chung tonight"?
Not familiar with "Summer Night City," but "Waterloo"? Wish I'd written that one.

Inside front cover image of a onsie stating “All your milk are belong to us” (http://images.teamsugar.com/files/upl... ) is a direct reference to one of the most hilarious internet memes I have EVER come across. Maybe because I love video games…. In case you are unfamiliar with it:

Note: OST = Original Sound Track (not sure if that’s common knowledge)
1. People Everyday by Tsuneo Imahori from OST Trigun - “The First Donuts”
Really makes me feel like I’m walking around in a crowded city and, yet, I am all by myself. I chose this as an intro to express my life before meeting The Consort.
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyc...
2. We’re in This Together by Nine Inch Nails
The perfect love song! I wanted to polka to this at my wedding. I wanted to waltz and twirl to the hardcore expression of love in these lyrics. So this is my dream-wedding song.

3. Business Time by Flight of the Conchords
Hilarious commentary about how I got where I am today.
Anyone who didn’t get Shebangs should watch it:

4. Lifeforms (Path 1) by The Future Sound of London
Sounds like the womb, doesn’t it? But of course! Because the entire “ambient” genre came from here!

5. The EGG and YOU by Seatbelts from OST Cowboy Bebop - “No Disc”
A daily contemplation/meditation song for those experiencing the state of pregnancy.

6. Whoa Baby by MYR
I’m sure my cousin didn’t mean for this song to be used to describe birthing hopes. I’m sure he meant for it to be aimed at a cute girl. Anyway, it made me laugh. Myr also performs with Those Idiots and they are a regular act for Dyngus Day in Buffalo, NY.

7. She’s My Pusher by Crystal Method
Oh yeah, did I ever push!

9. Only This Moment by Royksopp
This is the song I envisioned as that baby-mother bonding moment. Envisioned, I say, because I didn’t experience it…. But there’s always this song!

10. #1 Crush by Garbage
Instead, this is more like what I actually felt…
http://www.elyricsworld.com/no.1_crus...
11. U Don’t Know Me by Armand Van Helden
I think this song covers so many bases: What I felt like with all the hospital staff, how I feel my kid must feel now (and will feel like as a teen), and how I feel about family assumptions about how I will raise my child.

12. Bitch by Meredith Brooks
Hormones after birth make you feel all sorts of ways…

13. Antidepressant O44 from OST Serial Experiments LAIN - “Cyberia Mix”

AND, since Zen did it, I'll go ahead and post mine, too (love your playlist, Zen, BTW).
Heidi's Sensitivity & Sensory Indulgences Liner Notes May 2010
1. Looking Out - Brandi Carlile * I swear I think she wrote this song for me. I love that it’s the first track on her Giving Up the Ghost CD – it was the soundtrack for my road trip to Houston for my sister’s wedding. I had a lot on my plate at the time (Dad’s in the hospital, sister’s getting married, etc, etc.) It was exactly the kind of humanistic/existential lyrics I needed to hear at the time. When I’m listening to this song, I love to turn it up really loud in my car and stomp my left foot like I’m hitting the pedal on a drum set. I sing along really loudly, too.
2. Kaw-Liga - Hank Williams * My parents had this song on 8-track. Charley Pride sang it. I loooved his version of it. My favorite part of this song is Hank trying to hit those high notes and just barely squeaking by with them, The thought of a wooden Indian head falling in love with a wooden Indian maiden statue just tickles me so! Sweet Kaw Liga… awww!
3. Yummy Yummy Yummy - Julie London * Gus introduced me to this song on his MiniAm mix and, man, I love it. Julie’s voice is so sultry and dreamy. It feels like an old 60s Euro adventure movie love scene and a candy shop all wrapped up to be savored together.
4. Easy Silence - Dixie Chicks * True story: the writer/producer of this song, Dan Wilson, is the son of the former chancellor of the med school where I work. Early one week, they enforced a campus-wide “no streaming media” policy, very strictly. So, no more myspace, no more chatting at work – all understandable considering we have over 10,000 employees under the campus server. Less than a week later, Dan and the Dixie Chicks got a grammy for this album and this song – and Chancellor Wilson sent out a campus-wide message boasting of his son’s accomplishment, encouraging everyone to check out the link to his myspace page so we could listen to more of his music. :) It was kind of cute! Oh, and Dan’s also the man responsible for “Closing Time” – he was the lead singer of Semisonic back in the day.
5. Crickets Sing for Anamaria - Astrud Gilberto * I thought about adding “Corcovado: Quiet Night of Quiet Stars” instead of this song, but it’s just so perky and fun, for “It is a groovy thing to make a lot of love.” Every time I listen to this song, I expect to hear crickets and never do. You’d think I’d know by now they’re just not there. I prefer to hope for auditory hallucinations, though.
6. (Love Is Like A) Heat Wave - Martha Reeves & the Vandellas * This song reminds me of Shag, the movie and Annabeth Gish. I don’t know if it’s featured on the movie or not, but it does. It makes me bouncy and want to do The Dip.
7. That Year - Brandi Carlile * Another true story: I saw Brandi live in concert several years ago – she was touring with The Indigo Girls. The crowd was different – we were all in a large auditorium and the people there treated it like going to a play or an opera – everyone sat… and the few that wanted to dance would go to the back of the room and dance in the aisles so as to not obstruct the view. It was all very respectful and reverent and joyful. I don’t know how else to describe it. She introduced this song as “So I’m about to release an album next year and this song will be on it. I wrote it about a friend. I hope you like it.” When she started strumming her guitar, you could’ve heard a pin drop. Hearing her perform it live, I got goose flesh listening to the story in the song unravel. And I swear there wasn’t a dry eye in the room by the time she was done. She got a standing ovation for it. Her performance was completely transformative. The CD couldn’t come out soon enough after I witnessed this performance. This song, in particular – it still chokes me up and maybe inspires the occasional tear.
8. Harry Hippie - Marc Broussard * Bobby Womack sang the original, and it’s a fine arrangement. But Mark Broussard does it justice. I love, love, love his version. In fact, it’s my favorite.
9. Last Thing I Needed First Thing This Morning - Willie Nelson * This is my favorite Willie tune. The lyrics are so vulnerable and sincere. And even though he didn’t write it (and
he’s a well-accomplished songwriter IMO) he was the perfect person to sing it. You can just FEEL the heartbreak and disappointment and resignation. My apologies - the last 20seconds of the song cut in and out. I contemplated leaving it off the mix for that reason, but decided to leave it on there - I just love it THAT much.
10. The Pain of Loving You - Dolly, Emmylou, & Linda/Trio * Dolly and Emmylou and Linda got a Grammy for this collaboration. Their harmonies are so lovely… reminds me of the mountain music native to Mountain Home, Arkansas.
11. Space Oddity (LIVE) - Natalie Merchant * Okay, I won’t lie. No one can ever touch David Bowie on this song. Not even close. I do love the Seu Jorge version in Portuguese, though (Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou). I’ve been a fan of Jorge for years – his rich caramel voice, ahhh! So sexy. I’ve been a fan of Natalie, too. I think it’s a lovely tribute/cover of a great song, one of my all-time favorites. “Ground control to Major Tom.” ::sigh::
12. How Much It Hurts - Just Off Turner * My friend Lauryn introduced me to this song. She does a ridiculously sweet and beautiful cover (you can listen to it here, if you're curious). In fact, she performed it with Just Off Turner when they came through town, and the guys in the band loved her sweet, soulful vocals. It’s my favorite of their songs (you guys are getting a lot of my favorites on this mix). She found them because she’s a die-hard John Mayer fan… and JM has touted them as his favorite band. I’m not a fan of JM and typically think he’s distasteful, but I think I can agree that these guys are great live.
13. Que Reste T’Il de Nos Amours - Patachou * In so many words - I love you. It didn’t work out, and I wish you the loveliest things one can experience in life as we part ways. This is my favorite good bye/break up song. It has integrity and is true to love. I’m a sap, and I don’t care.
14. Can I Get a Witness - Marvin Gaye * This is my Uncle Joey’s favorite song. Imagine – big ole handsome Cajun man partying it up to Marvin’s Can I Get A Witness… makes me giggle every time I think about it.
15. First Day of My Life - Bright Eyes * I’ve always thought this would need to make it onto a wedding soundtrack. It fits. Larry, wasn't this on one of your mixes once, too? Like maybe last year's spring mix? BTW, I love this video - so cute and sweet. :)
16. Round and Round - Bob Schneider * Bob was dating Sandra Bullock at the time this was recorded. Her mother Helga, a famous professional opera singer, sings the arias featured in this song. His mother was a famous opera singer, too. I often imagined the two of them talking about what it was like growing up the child of an opera singer who toured all over Europe. I think this is an overtly well-produced song. Helga died not long after this was recorded. Bob’s bassist Bruce Hughes will attempt the arias when it’s performed live now. It’s pretty cute when Bruce does it (kinda like Hank and his high notes in KawLiga)!
17. Come In From the Cold - Marc Broussard * Another soulful cover from Marc Broussard. It reminds me of growing up with Mardi Gras season in New Orleans. Northerners would tease us about being cold when it was only 50 degrees outside. And then I tell them to take a shower with their clothes on and then stand outside in the 50+ degree weather and see if they don’t find it bone-chilling cold. At 100% humidity, 50 degrees will freeze your balls off. Incidentally, my mother’s family name is Broussard. Around Acadian country, it’s like “Smith” or “Jones.” I’ve always wondered if we’re related, though. I wrote him once to ask him about it, and never heard back. Maybe he thought I was after his money? He’s from Scott, LA… where one of the family farms is.
18. Come In Closer - Blue October - Justin Furstinfeld is really a brilliant lyricist with a beautiful voice. I do think some of his songs are overproduced, but not this one (okay, the "He cheated on me" v/o at the end is a bit much, but THAT'S my only complaint). I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the imagery in this song, and the trance-like bridge.
19. A Comet Appears - The Shins * I don’t really have any liner notes for this – it just fit the theme. OH! And I loved Garden State. That is all.
20. Go Outside - The Cults * I love this two man (well, guy/girl) band from NY. Every time I hear this song, I want to head to the nearest playground! The imagery is IMPLIED!!! It is!

addendum... in case y'all didn't catch it, my theme was to express my old-life to new-life experience after bearing and birthing The Goober.
Also, I love lyrics, so I included links to them.

:(
I wonder which one is missing... they all look awesome!
Guess what touched down in the magic mailbox today?
Thanks to Jackie for chaperoning all of us special-ed kids on the field trip.

Gus, you already know I'm in love with yours. I left you a spastic message on your phone (to be archived with the other spastic messages I've left you over the years).
Gretchen, I've been treating myself to # 2 on your mix, several times over - this is how it works - listen to #1, follow with #2, follow with #2, listen to #3, follow with #2, listen to #4, follow with #2... and so on and so on... I forgot just how much I love Patty Griffin.
So far, I've had time for preliminary listens to Gus', Gretchen's, and Clark's - all kickassness, so far. Reviews will come with time, after I've had a chance to fall in love with each of your mixes. And I have three times already with different flavors of kickassness. Tomorrow, I shall give another two shebangs a go-round (and likely I shall fall in love twice more). :)
Hey gang, got all the shebangs; I was out of town this weekend, visiting the fam and friends in NYC.
Heidi, got your spastic VM. I'm really glad you've liked my mix so far.
Clark, the cover is awesome (I know I've seen that on a t-shirt before), and the fact that you've included the Muffs on this mix (Sad Tomorrow is one of the best songs of the 90's) makes me all swoony n' shit.
I've got 2 long commutes in the next 2 days, so I'll be listening to a stack of Shebangs on my way to work.

You DO realize there's not a chance in hell that I'll take back how I feel about your shebang, right?
Heidi wrote: "Clark, you definitely have nothing to worry about on your shebang. I had a listen to it while at work today, and it's way cool. Like WAY cool."
She likes it. Hey Mikey, she likes it.

Ah Gusmeister, that yowl of Kim Shattuck's is the stuff of myth and pipedream, like a cat locked in coitus passing a gallstone at 1:37 a.m. outside your bedroom window.

Of course! :) Just... no pop rocks, right?

:( C'mon! Surely someone gets my pop rocks joke. Anyone?

Urban legend has it that Mikey went belly up after mixing pop rocks with Coke.

Christ, we're old...

YEAH! But you knew it... you heard it, too!
Mythbusters proved that was nothing more than an urban legend.

THAT's my point, Gus!!! Everyone knows about that urban legend. It was the first urban legend I'd ever heard.
Phil wrote: "Jackie "the Librarian" wrote: "Looks like it, Sally. Anybody else get there's yet?"
Theirs something wrong with that sentence, isn't their?"
I love Phil.

Janet’s Shebang
“Hate to See You Go” – Moreland & Arbuckle: Muddy Waters and Little Walter meet the Devil at the end of a dark alley in Chicago and, well, two more souls lost to Satan.
“Our Swords” – Band of Horses: This dates me terribly, but I’m flashing back to that first Echo & The Bunnymen album.
“Brass in Pocket” – The Pretenders: The former Mrs. Ray Davies’/Mrs. Jim Kerr’s finest moment? Let’s just say it beats the hell out of “Don’t Get Me Wrong.”

I like when Chrissy yelps "I'm potent/baby I'm potent/dangerous to the naked eye"
Sarah Pi’s Shebang
“Corvette” – Golden Fog (I thought it was Golden Smog?): Bonus points accrue for the Marc Bolan-ey guitar intro.
“A New England” – Billy Bragg: Former one-man Clash eventually went WAY political on us, but here spits out an early gem.
“Pressure Drop” – The Clash: Speaking of The Clash…here’s one of those early B-sides that made collecting singles so much fun. Too bad they eventually fell prey to all things music-biz ugly Mick Jones guitar licks you could cut diamonds on.
“Wave of Mutilation” – The Pixies: Who knows what the hell Black Francis is on about here? Who cares? Sounds like he went off his meds. Great song. Short, too.

Gretchen’s Shebang
“Wishing Well” – The Airborne Toxic Event: After reading Gretchen’s “I Want to Fucking Kill You” thread over in the Haters Club, I’m inclined to believe she listens to stuff like this to get to her happy place. Fer Christ’s sake girl, lighten up…and don’t leave anything sharp next to the bathtub. Like the song, though.
“Crimson and Clover” – Joan Jett & The Blackhearts: This one still makes every hair on my body stand up.
“Oxford Comma” – Vampire Weekend: With a name like Vampire Weekend, I was expecting something, uh, gothlike. Sounds like a mash-up between the Kinks circa “Village Green Preservation Society” and Sparks.
“Long Journey Home” – Robert Plant & Allison Krauss: Well, we’re sure a long way from the Misty Mountains here, but I like it. You can hardly hear Percy, though.

Misha’s Shebang
“The Story” – Brandi Carlile: Where the hell have I heard this song before? Incredible catch in that voice, though.
“Crazy on You” – Heart: Sweet Jesus… Come back Edsel Ford Class of 1976. All is forgiven.
“Burning of the Midnight Lamp” – Jimi Hendrix: Jimi sure gets his money’s worth out of that way pedal, eh?
“Times Like These” – Foo Fighters. It’s obvious Dave Grohl’s head was somewhere else while he had Kurt Cobain’s back.

I believe they used it as the track/song to play over the Olympic biographies during the winter Olympics.
Hee. You're gonna get a ton of CDs soon, Gretchen, and I'll be all sad.
(That reminds me, I haven't mailed that Ben Nichols yet, but I didn't forget.)
Yes, I agree, I love OCMS...has anyone seen them live? I heard they're good live.
