Kim Crowley (kimcrow) | 1893 comments What is your opinion on writers block?
Do you think its real? If yes then do you know any ways to get rid of it?

'Tis nonexistent. I believed in writer's block for a long time, and then discovered I didn't get stuck as much if I believed that I could write.

message 3: by Kim (new)

Kim Crowley (kimcrow) | 1893 comments Same.
Its just when you run out of ideas. By putting your fingers on the keys and just typing something, ideas will come to you. Writers block is just something made up for writers to lean on when they are frustrated about hitting a wall at a dead end. Just grab a sledge hammer and barge through it. it takes some work but you get there in the end.

message 4: by Ky (new)

Ky (poeticshark) | 10786 comments I think writers' bock is realy just a creative 'slowing down' of ideas to one particular thing. I mean, maybe you can't think of something relevant to your story, you can still work on another or even write something that you may actually find yourself liking for your story.

Ky (poeticshark) | 10786 comments *grins* That's how I feel right now...I have to do major editing in order to make the beginning of my story even make sense now...agh.

Brigid ✩ | 11973 comments Mod
Ugh, my editing is a total fail at the moment. XD I'm writing three things at once though … so every time I get stuck on one I have two other ones to choose from. lol.

I say it's real. I get rid of it by...waiting...and listening to my writing playlists (yes, I have one for each story)

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

Eh... I want to believe it's not real, but sometimes I honestly get stuck and can't think of anywhere else to go. Luckily I have another story to work on! :D

If there's one good thing about writing more than one story at a time it's that.

If my books ever get made into movies, I'm forcing those to be the soundtracks. Well, except one of them because it uses like, 5 Paramore songs. I love Paramore, but...people start rolling their eyes at me...

message 17: by Brigid ✩, No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader. (new)

Brigid ✩ | 11973 comments Mod
Haha, that would be awesome. I would be really really mad if one of my books was a movie with a crappy soundtrack. Even if they could get, like, one amazing band to do one song for it … I would be very happy. XD

*SQUEE* I LOVE PARAMORE! pshaw, I roll my eyes at the people who roll their eyes at you. Paramore rox my sox. Very good writing music. ;)

message 18: by [deleted user] (new)

Indeed. Taylor York is freaking attractive, too.

message 19: by Aurora (new)

Aurora (Aurora37) | 33 comments I think that sometimes it is harder to write or what you are writing just doesn't seem as good as usual, but I think usually you're just having an off day. Sometimes when I can't write on my story, I just write some random scene from something else about some random topic. It's fun to do even if it's pointless. :)

Paramore is very awesome indeed. I love their lyrics!

I HEART PARAMORE!!! IGNORENCE IS YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND! IGNORENCE IS YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND!!! Woot!

Paramore!!! YAY!!!!!!

message 24: by [deleted user] (new)

Aurora wrote: "Yeah! "We're all misguided ghosts traveling endlessly""

That is one of the most under-rated songs in the world.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Flyleaf is almost as awesome as Paramore. I only wish I had their actual album. I have the EP, but I actually like the demo version of "Red Sam" better than the album version.

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

*nods* I've only heard a few songs by Flyleaf...

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

They is metal. I usually hate metal, but I love Flyleaf.

message 28: by Jayda (new)

Jayda | 2761 comments I've tried Brigid's and Kim's theory about writer's block and it doesn't work for me :/ SO, I believe in it :'( Unfortunately...

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm a firm believer.

I no longer believe in writer's block. If I have motivation, I'll end up writing something. I thought I had writer's block in DotS, but as soon as I used Write or Die I wrote 1000 words and finally got to Joseph's perspective.

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm going to go read that. You've posted it, right?

message 37: by [deleted user] (new)

Cassie wrote: "I'm going to go read that. You've posted it, right?"

I have, but I want to do some serious editing, so I'm not sure if I want people to read it. I need to fix the dialogue so it's more realistic and just fix some things.

message 38: by Hannah (new)

Hannah | 19 comments Honestly, I believe in it. I don't see how it cannot be real. It's not something for writers to lean on when frusterated, but a time when the words you write just don't seem to come fluently and feel and sound painful and bland. Even the most accomplished authors have it..ahem, (the last J.R.R Martin last book.) Whenever I have it, I just move on to a different story and take a break for a while. Writers block dousn't last forever though. Everyone has it at some point, but then one day a random and brilliant idea will come, and when you return to your story, the words will come more beautifully than ever before and it will be like returning to an old friend.

I really wish it didn't exist. I definitely have those days when the words just don't flow as well as other days.

I just don't have time to write. Well I do have time, but Goodreads distracts me.

INDEED. More like curse/bless you, Goodreads. I've been using that term a lot lately....
