Can't recall a specific book, but the Prince of Nothing series by R Scott Bakker stands out as a "why did I force myself through that" moment.
haha, I get that feeling for some of the books they force you to read at school!
66: Troy: Lord of the Silver Bow
6.5/10
This was an interesting read for me since it is way beyond the normal genres I like to read. The cast of characters is huge and filled with strange Greek names. In fact I'm pretty sure you can finish the A-Z character challenge using just this one book.
History comes to life and soon you grow attached to the main character Helikaon and those he comes across on his travels. Some scenes are quite brutal, but overall seems to be an accurate portrayal of the times.
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy.

Another Angel novel. Strangely these TV novels are growing on me. Makes for quick entertaining reads.

It's been a very slow reading week for me. Got to make a plan to stay on target for the 100 goal.

74: The Good Guy - 386p
6/10
A quick read. Nothing spectacular, but still keeps you interested enough to keep turning the pages.

79: Jack and Jill
8/10 This turned out to be the best of the Alex Cross series I've read to date. The twists just keep coming and keeps you turning the pages at a steady clip wanting to see how things turn out.

Difficult to rate. Some of the short stories are excellent, others not so much...

85: Rollback - 8/10
Like Flashforward this is more a cerebral science fiction novel. It deals with how someone copes with being young again, while the people around him ages and dies.
It's also a tale about first contact with an alien race almost in the vain of Contact.

86: Ender's Game - 7/10
Not as good as I remembered it to be. Guess being much older now makes quite a difference in perspective.

Mmmm I dont know if I should read Ender's Game or not... What did and didnt you like about it?
It's one of those novels that you will either love or hate. I had fond memories of when I read it for the first time when I was around 13/14.
After the recent re-read it doesn't seem as good. The main thing is that it revolves around children being trained to be military fighters, and involves quite a bit of violence between them, which might not appeal to many people.

It does sound like a really good book, so I might just have to get an ebook of it, just incase I dont like it.
How did you find 1984? Its on my to read list

It's not a leisurely read. It mainly deals with politics and how the government tries to control people's thoughts.
It's one of those novels that will have you thinking about it for months afterward.
It's not UNGOOD, but not PLUSGOOD and definitely not DOUBLEPLUSGOOD (if you read it that will make sense).

1984 was one of the few books I enjoyed reading for school. Not something I'm going to re-read any time soon though.
Yup. I think it's much better suited for a novel that needs to be discussed in a classroom. It's not really something you would want to read for fun.
89: Extinction - 7/10
A new author for me. Found it quite interesting and couldn't stop reading. The way the author shows how human meddling into the climate leads to disaster and the vivid descriptions are excellent.

90: The Cloud - 7.5/10
I'm starting to like Ray Hammond as an author. He seems to enjoy creating an elaborate world filled with characters and then destroying the world in creative and unexpected ways.

A cyberpunk 'spy-thriller' with a bit too much action and a somewhat confusing plot.

I remember Perdido Street Station being quite a doorstop, best not make the remaining five books of similar length ;)
Definitely not. I'm currently busy with some very light reading - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I needed a change of pace.

Well, I've just finished the first one so I'll count it as only one book. It works for the Sci-Fi year challenge as a book a movie was based on. Will finish re-reading the rest later, but they won't be counting towards my 100.

Still enjoy the witty humor as ever.
(Kinda feels like cheating adding a 159 page book as a 'book').

After Perdido I can understand how you might feel that way :)
I love Hitchhiker's, it's always fun to read.
97: Men at Arms - 8/10
Loved it. As witty as ever and seems to be much better than his newest titles.

98: The Windup Girl - 6.5/10
This was a slow read for me. Nothing much seemed to be happening until the halfway mark and things really started going in the last 100 pages or so. They concept of the story is interesting, but a bit more background to the cause of the situation the world finds it in would have been appreciated.
Might not be for sensitive readers though since it contains some scenes of sexual abuse/rape.
