The book has been out. Have you Read it? Are you going to the movie?

message 2: by [deleted user] (new)

I'm 0 for 2 right now. I want to read the book and I'm if-y about taking my boys to go and see this movie. Maybe.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 150 comments I read and liked the first book. I'm not planning to see the movie. Why? Probably the main difference is that in the book, he's twelve. In the movie, they made him seventeen. Not happy. There's other minor stuff too, but that's the big one for me.

Kate (katemreads) | 46 comments I saw the movie last night and I loved it! I was really just going becuase I love Logan Lerman aka. Percy Jackson. It was actually a really good movie and I want to see it agian soon! I got the book a few weeks ago but didn't read it becuase of the same reason Jordan didn't see the movie. I thought it would be weird if he was 12 in the books then I went to the movie and he was 17, so I decided to wait on the book so that I wouldn't try to be thinking of younger characters and just enjoy the characters as they are.

Winona (wheenona) | 4 comments I love the series and I just saw the movie.
I was very disappointed with it. There's A LOT of differences between the book and the movie.
Didn't really enjoy it that much.
I suggest that you read the book first, then watch the movie. :)

Is the movie interesting enough for younger boys? (8,7, & 5) They like all of the Harry Potter movies.

yeah and the girl who plays annabeth!shes not blonde and not even a teen (shes 26 +/-)

message 8: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 150 comments Yes! Is it so hard to find talented teen actors?

message 9: by Cara (new)

Cara | 44 comments Ugh. That is a big difference from the books. I haven't read or watched the movie. I already have a hold on the library for the book though. People love the series and I guess the studios didn't want to undertake a Harry Potter like movie series.

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 150 comments I think High School Musical started the trend of having older people play teens...on Glee, the girl who's supposed to be my age is 20-something...

Definitely. It's an entertaining movie. It's pretty good actually, if you haven't read the book.

At least they looked young/convincing enough.

Yeah. That's what everyone said about Eragon...

message 14: by Winona (new)

Winona (wheenona) | 4 comments Well, I didn't really like the movie but, everyone who haven't read the book said it was great. So yeah.

message 15: by Jordan (new)

Jordan (flyinglogicmonkey) | 150 comments Oh, the movie was horrendous. Then again, I read the book before I saw it. The quality of the book is another discussion altogether.

To reiterate: Not gonna see PJ any time soon.

message 16: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) yay I just saw the movie!i must say they werent that faithful to the book, i mean, just look to annabeth, grover, luke, chiron, even percy.they ever cut out dionysus I really wanted to see him on the movie!

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments I'm currently reading the first book. My younger brother by two years, whose in the fifth grade and doesn't like to read at all, read it in two days. If he read it that fast, then it's definitely a good book. We haven't gone out to see the movie yet, but I might be able to get my mom to take us to see it when I finish reading the book.

Same with my brother. He's in sixth grade, and you have to twist his arm to get him to read.

message 19: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 46 comments Yes, it seems like all brothers are like that. I feel the need to defend the movie a little for the people, like me, who haven't read the book. In my opinion, it was a great movie, but like I said I haven't read the book. Basically if you're planning on seeing the movie, and enjoying it, then don't read the book first. Hopefully then you'll be able to enjoy it then.

message 20: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 46 comments I am going to read the book soon. I hope the movie doesn't influence the way I see the book, though it probably will.
I hate it when movies stray from the books! I think movies would have so much more success if they just stuck to the book. They'd please both the people who've read the books and the potential readers. So many people I know won't go to movies that're based off of books they've read becuase they feel that they'll be completly different. Unfortuantly they usually are. I think it's terrible that so many people won't even think about seeing movies based off of their favorite books because they know that they'll be ruined. I wish that movies would just follow the books. It'd be better for everyone! On that note, I really hope I like the book!

message 21: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) when you all read it, teelll what u thought in here

message 22: by Andrez (new)

Andrez (andrez-ssi) hmm..we could make something for the differences between th movies and the books (not just PJ)

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

That would be a good topic to add.

message 24: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Pfaff (kl_pfaff) I am usually pretty lenient when it comes to film interpretation of a book. Usually I understand why they have made the changes that they have made. Yesterday, however, my boyfriend and I went to see Percy Jackson and EVERYTHING was different. I can't even think of anything that was the way it was in the book. Does anyone know if they are planning to make this a series, because I just read the second book, The Sea of Monsters, yesterday and realized that they actually cut enough of the plot out of The Lightning Thief that the second wouldn't make sense if it were turned into a movie... if that makes any sense.

message 25: by Kate (new)

Kate (katemreads) | 46 comments I think they are planning on it if the movie makes enough money.

Zakiya LadyWings (zladywings) | 195 comments Well my mom is going to take us to see the movie tomorrow. I finished the book, BTW!! It was ah-mazing! I loved how he stood up to Hades and Zeus and even Poseidon and didn't crumble under whatever they told him or did to him. Annabeth and Grover were a great addition for me; I hate solo adventurers. When Grover left at the end, I was happy because he got his searcher's license, but I was sad/scared because they might not ever see each other again! When Annabeth left after Percy woke from the pit scorpion bite, I was really sad because I figured that we wouldn't see her at all in the next book (then my bro, who's reading TSOM, told me that Annabeth just arrived into the book and punched some guy). At the same time, I was happy because her father was trying to work things out to where they could be together during the year.

Overall: A WONDERFUL book!!! :D
