Because it's dreary here, I want to be there instead.

The Four Seasons on the big island. The spa is fantastic. They have these little luxurious bungaloes that make you feel that you're there all alone (with 500 other people). Bar on the beach with a view of the whales jumping out of the water. Mai Tai in my hand.
You know where I've never been where I want to go and I bet it's not dreary? New Mexico and Arizona, way out in the desert, or where there are cool old historical missions and churches, and that place I can't remember where the new age people sell crystals and expensive art.
I have a friend who lives in Taos. She says that the place has a strong, unique energy. People either really dig it there, or hate it there and can't wait to get away.
RandomAnthony wrote: "...and that place I can't remember where the new age people sell crystals and expensive art.."You confirmed Taos as the place you were referencing, but Sedona, AZ. also fits that bill. They even have all those new-agey vortices (vortexes?).
My mom once took me to a hot springs up the gorge I think on the Washington side. It was once a 50s style motor lodge like motel, and had a crazy dining hall where we were served breakfast. Instead of sitting in a natural creek like spring like they have up here in the mountains, the hot spring water was piped in, and we soaked in these HUGE 6' long footed bathtubs, filled by nurse-like attendants (in my memory wearing paper hats, but I'm sure that's an embellishment) and separated if need be by these huge curtains hanging from the ceiling. It was wicked awesome and creeptacular all at the same time.
I'll be in Sedona in a month, I can pack you in my luggage if you want RA.
Michigan's Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula.
God's country.
God's country.

Did Clark just call the UP "God's Country"? You got a thing for pasties?
Not those kind of pasties, pervs. This kind:

I love pasties - both kinds.

C'mon Larry, get it right! It's "yooper," not "yewper."
I'm a yooper wannabe. Got a place in Oscoda, MI, a couple hours from the Mackinac Bridge, but I'd LOVE to retire in the U.P.
Gimme a place in the woods with a fishing boat and the biggest satellite dish money can buy and I'm good.

Northern WI has to rank right up there too Clark yah hey.
That was a brilliant move by somebody in WI political lore, "hey lets give this land we don't want to MI, they'll have to build a bridge if they want to use it".
Well there are a couple lakes in the way for it to be Canada.
Ontario is further south -- and those lakes (except for Michigan) are half Canadian. And the people up there talk just like Canadians. Eh?

Well we're all crazy anyways. I was saving that to scare Sally with later. :-)
I'd rather be crazy than normal. That's what I always tell my kid. Misha, I hear you. I'm tired of being uprooted as well.
I'm dreaming of a cute villa on the beach somewhere in Greece - like in the movie Momma Mia! Kalokairi (which is really Skopelos) is one of my dream places. When we make it big & rich we're buying said cute villa along with a ginormous catamaran.
I love that movie! and songs of ABBA......"The only difference between me and madman is that I am not mad" -- I agree (;
Oh, I'll have lots of guest rooms... but the place to be is down on the private beach where a pod of dolphins comes to play every afternoon. And, my personal cabana boy will be serving mai tais & margaritas to your hearts content.

I want to be in Hawaii. It'll be a looooong time before we can afford a vacay, so I'm dreaming of the day we can stay at a resort where they'll bring us food by the pool, and we can walk on the beach, and swim in the warm ocean water.
I love love l o v e swimming in the ocean.
What about you? Where do you dream about going when you don't want to be where you are at that moment?
