It's just blah in Colorado. Dead grass, dead trees, nary a crocus to be seen. Blue skies, sure, but cold air, and mean wind.

I want to be in Hawaii. It'll be a looooong time before we can afford a vacay, so I'm dreaming of the day we can stay at a resort where they'll bring us food by the pool, and we can walk on the beach, and swim in the warm ocean water.
I love love l o v e swimming in the ocean.

What about you? Where do you dream about going when you don't want to be where you are at that moment?

Félix (habitseven) The Four Seasons on the big island. The spa is fantastic. They have these little luxurious bungaloes that make you feel that you're there all alone (with 500 other people). Bar on the beach with a view of the whales jumping out of the water. Mai Tai in my hand.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Hawaii, yes. Don't need a spa, though, just a towel and a beach, and my snorkel gear...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I saw a Scooby Doo episode set there once...

message 9: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments You know where I've never been where I want to go and I bet it's not dreary? New Mexico and Arizona, way out in the desert, or where there are cool old historical missions and churches, and that place I can't remember where the new age people sell crystals and expensive art.

message 10: by Félix (last edited Feb 11, 2010 02:37PM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) That would be the place. Santa Fe has a lot of that, too.

message 11: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yes! Thanks, Buns and Larry.

I have a friend who lives in Taos. She says that the place has a strong, unique energy. People either really dig it there, or hate it there and can't wait to get away.

message 13: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) If you get to Santa Fe, go to the Loretto Chapel

The story about the staircase there is fascinating.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I want to go to posts 15 and 16 right now. And maybe sleep on 14's floor.

You confirmed Taos as the place you were referencing, but Sedona, AZ. also fits that bill. They even have all those new-agey vortices (vortexes?).

message 16: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yup. Sedona, too.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8993 comments Those hot springs sound like heaven, Bun!

Sally (mrsnolte) | 17333 comments Mod
My mom once took me to a hot springs up the gorge I think on the Washington side. It was once a 50s style motor lodge like motel, and had a crazy dining hall where we were served breakfast. Instead of sitting in a natural creek like spring like they have up here in the mountains, the hot spring water was piped in, and we soaked in these HUGE 6' long footed bathtubs, filled by nurse-like attendants (in my memory wearing paper hats, but I'm sure that's an embellishment) and separated if need be by these huge curtains hanging from the ceiling. It was wicked awesome and creeptacular all at the same time.

message 19: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll be in Sedona in a month, I can pack you in my luggage if you want RA.

message 20: by Dr. Detroit (new)

Dr. Detroit | 6027 comments Michigan's Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula.

God's country.

A ticket is probably cheaper:)

Did Clark just call the UP "God's Country"? You got a thing for pasties?

Not those kind of pasties, pervs. This kind:

message 22: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Is Clark a yewper?

I love pasties - both kinds.

C'mon Larry, get it right! It's "yooper," not "yewper."

I'm a yooper wannabe. Got a place in Oscoda, MI, a couple hours from the Mackinac Bridge, but I'd LOVE to retire in the U.P.

Gimme a place in the woods with a fishing boat and the biggest satellite dish money can buy and I'm good.

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

Northern WI has to rank right up there too Clark yah hey.

message 26: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Let's not pretend the UP is actually in Michigan.

:)

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

That was a brilliant move by somebody in WI political lore, "hey lets give this land we don't want to MI, they'll have to build a bridge if they want to use it".

message 28: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Yooper. Got it. I'm the perpetual outsider on this issue.

message 29: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Probably should have been Canada.

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

Well there are a couple lakes in the way for it to be Canada.

message 31: by Félix (last edited Feb 12, 2010 06:10AM) (new)

Félix (habitseven) Ontario is further south -- and those lakes (except for Michigan) are half Canadian.

And the people up there talk just like Canadians. Eh?

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Yah, for sure.

Books Ring Mah Bell I gotta back Clark up on the U.P.!!

WOOT!

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments I'd rather be crazy than normal. That's what I always tell my kid.

Misha, I hear you. I'm tired of being uprooted as well.

I'm dreaming of a cute villa on the beach somewhere in Greece - like in the movie Momma Mia! Kalokairi (which is really Skopelos) is one of my dream places. When we make it big & rich we're buying said cute villa along with a ginormous catamaran.

Knarik I love that movie! and songs of ABBA......
"The only difference between me and madman is that I am not mad" -- I agree (;

Cosmic Sher (sherart) | 2234 comments Oh, I'll have lots of guest rooms... but the place to be is down on the private beach where a pod of dolphins comes to play every afternoon.

And, my personal cabana boy will be serving mai tais & margaritas to your hearts content.
