AWH..That's soo sweet how you defend her so valiantly RA. Good on ya!
My daughters got Ms. Swift's latest magnum opus for Christmas.
Now that she's blown up big, I'm wondering how long it will be until she gets hooked on Xanax, shaves her head, and joins the Church of Scientology?

(I hope not, though. She seems nice, and if my sons were to date girls like her in a couple years, I would not protest. And thanks, WA.:)
I think that if she gets a good support group around her, she can avoid most of the pitfalls. The secret is in knowing who to trust.
RA, if my wife suspected you were a 15-year-old girl, she'd murder me on the spot.
Are people really picking on her? That's just envy, I think. Taylor's a nice young lady, has a lovely voice, and she's still youthful enough where she's not taking herself so seriously or her success for granted. I do hope she succeeds.
But I wouldn't be surprised to see her in Maxim in a couple of years. It's inevitable.

Very long article, folks. Rough summary: There are a lot of guys out there just trolling for sex, and there are a lot of girls out there letting them. Many of these guys are assholes. And, in sum, the author thinks that women so secretly long for "dominant males" (presumably of the asshole variety) that they seek out this behavior in their 20s and, later, on the side. This is admittedly not an entirely fair summary of the article, but should get you started.
As for Taylor Swift, she's catchy and has good lyrical quality, but her live performances are, in a word, sucky. One nice exception: SNL - her performances there were really quite decent.

Ok, I read some of that article, Mary...interesting.
I also looked up the "My husband is annoying" blog she mentions:

The guy vacuuming his lawn made me laugh.

Welcome to TC Cambridge, please join in regularly.

Also, have you watched John Mayer sing? Anyone who has seen what that man does to the microphone has to wonder what he can do to other things, and I will just leave it at that.

He's a decent guitarist. That's all I'll give him.

I love it when the real world follows through on a TC conversation!

I hate what he does to a microphone. In fact, that's the very first thing I hated about him. It started many years ago, my distaste for John Mayer.

Was he sober when he said this? Because this sounds like something one of your friends says at 4AM after barfing in your car, and you say, the next day, "Dude, do you remember talking about David Duke and Benetton or something last night in the car?" and he says, "Man, I don't remember anything, I was so wasted."

Was he sober when he said this? Because..."
My impression is that he just loves the sound of his own voice, and he thinks everything out of his mouth is gold, like a drunk philosophy student. He tweets constantly, so he constantly has to come up with new things to say, regardless of their merit. He also fancies himself a standup comedian, but I have heard his comedy is AWFUL.

I'm guessing he makes sweet loooooooove to it."
NO! there's nothing sweet about it. The first time I saw him sing was at a concert. (he was opening for Counting Crows or someone. I did NOT go see him on purpose.) He does all these weird faces and sticks out his tongue a lot while he's singing. I think a stylist got a hold of him and made him stop doing the stupid tongue thing because I haven't seen it lately. But the facial tics are still there. It's quite awful to watch. I tell my husband that if they would film him from the neck down I could possibly stand to watch but as long as they keep including his head he'll have to watch when I'm out of the room.

It may have been worthy of a really cross look, but detention seems harsh.
Sally probably would have suspended him.

John Mayer seems like the kind of guy who's so oversexed he probably tries to give himself head - apologies for the mental picture.

By the by, I totally agree.

Anyway, there's an interesting analysis of her Grammy performance disaster and some reactions on NPR.

(Ms. Swift, I ask only that, if you're really dating John Mayer, you break up with him. You're way too good for that loser.)
