When you read a book do you notice that the book cover is off or right now? Your redhead heroine have blond hair on the cover?

Discuss its cover and what it might mean and how it correlates with the story.

Ashley (readerandwriter) I read "Rage: A Love Story" by Julie Anne Peters and 3/4 of the cover was pink with big bold black letters going in a clockwise direction: R-A-G-E. On the top of the cover was a girl with her eyes closed and the color of her eye shadow was pink.

At first I didn't understand the correlation. Usually when you think anger/rage, you correlate it with the color red, not pink. But as I read further into the book, I learned that one of the main characters likes to wear eye shadow. The color of her eye shadow showed how she was feeling. So for the main character, pink=rage.

Julie S. The cover of the book Gone: Gone (Gone #1) by Michael Grant
didn't fit at all. The characters on the cover look like models, but the book characters are going through a huge crisis and would not have time to look like that. It seems like a small thing, but that really bugged me.

Cara | 44 comments One book that has a wonderful cover that goes with the story and had a lot of thought put into it is East by Edith Pattou . There is in fact a polar bear in the story and the girl on the cover is depicted well (ie she has brown hair etc..)The compass watermark also has a lot to do with the story. These are the kind of covers that I appreciate.

Annaclaire | 28 comments I try not to pay attention, because if there is a difference...It would ruin the book for me because I'd be so irked by it.

**Carla** I honestly dont think that is something I look at or even think about to even notice. I do notice it when making the book into the movie....book describes the character one way but the movie has no resemblance to the decription even in things so obvious like hair colour.

Angela B I just read Lost & Found by Jacqueline Sheehan which has a beautiful chocolate lab on the cover, in the book the lab is black. It got on my nerves. Also Thirst No. 1 The Last Vampire, Black Blood, Red Dice by Christopher Pike Green eyes on the book cover, blue in the book...also drove me nuts. But those are the only times I have ever noticed this

If they read the book they might of been more careful when they created the Cover Art. However, how did the author not say something!!!

message 11: by Angela (new)

Angela B If I was an author I wouldn't allow my book to be published with a girl who's eyes are the wrong color on the front when it's basically the only thing in color I mean that's pretty obvious

I know right! Authors should have a bit of say, after all, it is their name that goes on the front. Most people that create cover art do not read the book. I think they should be required to read at least most of it. The first half usually has all of the basic introductions that describes the characters. They go off the synopsis. Which I think rarely hits the true part of the book.

Jencey/ (jencey) I remember going to see Jennifer Weiner last summer and her making fun of the cover for Best Friends Forever.
