Would The Cement Garden work for the April Showers task? It has Garden in the title, which isn't a flower, but...No biggie if it won't.
I was intending to read Labyrinths for Jules' task (read new authors), but it just struck me that you could possibly find labyrinths/mazes in amusement parks or circuses... so would it work for task 10.1 (Be amused)?
I recently read Foe (which is based on Robinson Crusoe) and Friday doesn't have tongue, therefore he is incapable of speech. So it works for task 25.5 a person with a physical disability?
would Anna Karenin count as a group read for 20.1, I know it isn't technically a monthly read but it was voted on. Not a huge deal if you don't want it to count because I'm not even positive that is how I want to use it but just a thought.
Annashu, I would say yes because it was a group wide thing, but I'll have to see what Jamie says because the thick read was her deal.
Hey, I have some questions here:Suicide and feminism would count as Ethical Issues?
For 15.10, it has to be fiction/novel or may I use any book about philosophy?
Paula,I think for the Ethical Issue, Jamie wanted something that wasn't quite clear cut. Doctor Assisted Suicide would work. But most people agree that regular suicide is not a good thing. As far as 15.10, I'm not sure what Jamie is wanting.
Agreeing with what Lori said about the ethical issues. If you can find something really controversial within those..like doctor assisted suicide I'll take it.
15.10 can be either..anything relating to philosophy

For 15.10, could a book like The Purity Myth: How America's Obsession with Virginity is Hurting Young Women suffice? It pertains to third-wave feminism.
I think that would work because some people preach abstinence and others preach making smart decisions. There's no clear-cut right or wrong about it.
Hey I just joined and started the Spring/Summer book reading challenge and I was wondering: If I read a book a couple of weeks, can I use it for the challenge?
Question: Could Interpreter of Maladies by Jhumpa Lahiri work for the medical field challenge? It sounds like the protagonist is a Bengali interpreter in a hospital. Who has read it?
I've read it. It is actually a collection of short stories, and it is just the title story that has a doctor's assistant in it (the interpreter). It's a wonderful book, though. Even if you can't read it for the challenge, I'd recommend that you put it on your to-read list for later.
Ali, since medical personnel is only in the first story, I'm going to have to say no. Sorry! (And I apologize for keeping you waiting for so long)
Would a book about a girl going crazy because she's being bullied at school count for the mental disability part of 25.5?
I did much better on this challenge than on previous ones. Especially counting the dozen or so books I read that weren't on it.
