Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I really want to read Queen of the Damned because I LOVED the movie, but it seriously took me so long to get through the ending of Interview. I think part of that had to do with some of the other books I was reading. So, I probably will read some more of the series but it's gunna be a little while before I can get to them!!!

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 40. To Hold the Crown

I think the word "hate" may be a bit strong for this book because I didn't hate it. But I did immensely dislike it. However, I did learn some interesting things about Henry VII. Her portrayal of Henry VIII *cringe*. I'll write up a full review on my blog tomorrow.

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 41. Fantastic Mr. Fox

I know, it's a kid's book, but it's one of my favorites from when I was little. I'm gunna start reading another Dahl book, the BFG before I tackle The Life and Death of Anne Boleyn.

message 154: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I love Dahl!! Witches was my favorite I think, or The Twits, or maybe Matilda... oh, but then there's Charlie's Chocolate Factory. Sigh. Now I want to read them all again :)

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) My favorites were The Twits and BFG. Both of my sons read the BFG about a million times each!

message 156: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 42. The BFG

Again, another kids' book, but I had fun rereading it!! Now onto the harder books!! It was nice having a short breather.

message 157: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments It's always nice to throw in a fluff book between the harder to read books, lol

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I sooooo agree with that you guys. A little fluff never hurt anyone.

Donna (dfiggz) | 3119 comments Mod
I do it all the time!

message 160: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I'm starting The Other Queen. I know it hasn't technically one the poll over at THL, but it will. I've read a whole seven pages woo!! LOL

Fluff is soooo nice!!!! Wolf Hall just deadened by brain. I've read a lot of books that have had that effect on me this year. Sunne in Splendour was an AMAZING book, but I took a break from reading for about a week after I finished it. And don't get me started on Memoirs of Cleopatra LOL

message 161: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments You are making me scared to read WH!

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Colleen wrote: "You are making me scared to read WH!"

What she said :)

message 163: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments haha! It's not too bad, but you have to totally concentrate on it to know what's going on. I'm actually surprised it won an award, not because it's a bad book (I found it awesome) but because you have to have a pretty good knowledge of the Tudors to fully grasp what's going on.

message 164: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments So it's a book specifically for people suffering from Tudorhistorymania?

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Oh no, I've had a bout of that for quite a while, and I hear there is no cure.

message 166: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I think it is! I've read so many bad reviews on the book because people didn't know what was going on. I couldn't even imagine reading this book without a Tudor knowledge!!

So, I picked up a book called The Crimson Petal and the White. It's another big one, but it is really awesome so far. The writing is unlike anything I've read. It's so dang addictive!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I have that book and here it is phenomenal. It is another one that is on the 1001 books you should read before you die. I will get to it someday, lol. Glad you are enjoying it, Aly.

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Lyn M wrote: "Oh no, I've had a bout of that for quite a while, and I hear there is no cure."

There isn't Lyn, mostly because no one has bothered to look for one! LOL

I would pick up this book right now Aly but I just am not in the mood for another big book right this moment!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) It is a chunkster, Colleen.

message 170: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 43. Appeal by David Walker

44. Half Slave Half Free by Bruce Levine

45. Reflections on the Revolution in France by Burke

46. Narrative of the life of Fredrick Douglass by Fredrick Douglass

Yeah.... school reading rocks. Not really. I literally had to read all of these this last weekend. Go me!! I'm glad I'm a fast reader LOL. And I'm halfway done with another book for school. UG. Why did I go back?? Haha!

message 171: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I really wanna finish The Crimson Petal and the White but it's so HUGE and I haven't had time. According to my kindle, I have about thirty five percent left. It's sooo good!!

message 172: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 47. The Crimson Petal and the White (it should count as two books LOL)

48. The Apple Another book by Michael Faber, it's basically the conclusion of TCPATW. I don't recommend reading that book without this one because I spent 800 pages with characters and getting to be involved in their lives only to have it end without a conclusion which to put it mildly really really irritated me. That being said, The Crimson Petal was one of the best books that I have read. But it needed something to the end. I felt extraordinarily cheated. And, I had to buy The Apple to find out what happened to all the characters I grew to love. So all in all, I have spent 1000 pages with these people and I still feel cheated LOL

message 173: by Paula (new)

Paula So nice to hear you liked TCPatW, Aly! I've had that one sitting on my shelf for too long, but the size is a bit intimidating right now. I can only do so many big books in one year!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I know what you mean, Paula. I have that one on my shelf, too, but have not read it for the same reason.

message 175: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Congrats on your numbers Aly!

message 176: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Thanks, Colleen!!! School has really helped LOL Actually, I have another one to add:

49. First Generations Women in Colonial America by Carol Berkin

I was going to be happy with 50 books this year, but I think I can pull out sixty!

Paula, that book was a bear!!! But I'm glad I read it. I like I said, the ending was lame, so once you read it, make sure you have The Apple as a quick follow up.

message 177: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 50!! Belle de Jour: Diary of an Unlikely Call Girl.
If I decided to only do fifty books, I would be done with my challenge!!! But I think I can do more!!

message 178: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 51. The Other Queen
I still don't really know what to think about this book. Why spend so many chapters, the large majority of the book, on two to three years and then speed it ahead 16 years in the last chapter and a half? Maybe if Phillipa Gregory had spent less time repeating herself OVER and OVER and OVER again, we could have actually gotten the entire story of Mary Queen of Scots instead of this weird, botched, one-sided travesty.

message 179: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 52. Sisters: The Lives of America's Suffragists
53. Inside Hitler's Bunker, The Last Days of the Third Reich
I read the Hitler book tonight. Fabulous. I couldn't put it down. I'm writing my senior thesis on the collapse of the Third Reich so this was a great "get my feet wet" book. The other one was... well, Baker is a dry author. And I'm not really into American History. But I had to read it for a class.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Aly - I have heard that the Hitler book is excellent.

message 181: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments It really is. It is such a quick read!! 170 pages but it flew by like it was nothing!

So, you didn't love it either? lol

55. Succubus Dreams

message 184: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments no, Jen, I didn't love it either. It made me want to throw it across the room.

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Aly wrote: "no, Jen, I didn't love it either. It made me want to throw it across the room."

I agree! I'm so hesitant to read The White Queen now. I want to read it because it's PG but don't want to for the same reason!

Have you read The Gargoyle yet? I'm reading it now and really enjoying it.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Wow, I am not looking forward to TOQ after seeing your comments, lol. I just finished TOBG and it was wonderful, even if it was not accurate. What a great story she told!

message 187: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Ah, I wish I'd never read TOBG just so I could read it for the first time all over again :) Lyn, have you read The Boleyn Inheritance?

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Not yet, TOBG was my first PG, believe it or not, but I am anxious to read more, although apparently not TOQ, lol.

message 189: by Jennifer (last edited Oct 19, 2010 11:08AM) (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments Wow... really? I assumed you'd read them all lol
Your next one should definitely be TBI :)
If I remember correctly, I liked it even more than TOBG.

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) I own them all, but have not read any of them. Books I own become orphans pretty quick as I always have too many library books going. I actually had slated TBI as the next one to read.

BTW - I am starting The Gargoyle today.

message 191: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jennifertudor) | 145 comments I think you'll love it! It's so weird but enthralling!

message 192: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 56. Succubus Heat
57. Autobiographies by Darwin
58. Selected Writings by Marx

WOW.... I thought I wasn't going to make it to fifty and now I'm almost at sixty. Cool!! Maybe even enough time left in the year to get to seventy?!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) You are right on track with me Aly! Good Job.

message 194: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments 59. Succubus Shadows
60. My Horizontal Life

Lyn, TBI is the BEST PG book that I have read. How is the Gargoyle? Hurray!! I'm already ten books over what I wanted to read!! And I still have sooo much left of the year!!

Lyn (Readinghearts) (lsmeadows) Okay ALy, My Horizontal Life is intriguing me!

IKR??? I was about to reach through the bok and strangle selfish Bess and when I turned the last page I was furious! All that and then all the sudden she was like "I'm done writing this book now, bye". WTF right?

message 197: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments What did you think of MHL Aly? I think Chelsea Handler's books are hysterical! I have been going through some BS in my life right now so I may have to go get Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang to cheer myself up as her books have made me consistantly LOL.

message 198: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments Whew I have a LOT of books to add. O and Lyn, My Horizontal Life was pretty good! It was a nice fluff read.

Ok here goes:
61. The Concubine
62. 5 People Who Died During Sex: and 100 Other Terribly Tasteless Lists
63. For Cause and Comrades: Why Men Fought in the Civil War
64. Twilight
65. The Killer Angels

Ok, I think thats it for now!

message 199: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (nightoleander) | 676 comments Great numbers Aly! At this point you should make it to 70 if not 75!

message 200: by Aly (new)

Aly (Alygator) | 204 comments I'm excited, Colleen!!! I was pushing for fifty thinking that I was going to have a hard time making it and look!!! I'm fifteen over!!! LOL
