Jodi Picoult

Picoult's novels tend to center on human emotion and complex human relationships. Most of her books' storylines incorporate a criminal or civil case which lasts throughout the book's narrative, concluding shortly before the book ends. In books that don't follow this pattern, an attorney character is still often included.

I have My Sister's Keeper on my shelf as well. I was reccommended to read her but have found her to be very serious in her topics. I loved the movie My Sister's Keeper. Head's up I have this book in mind for a future poll in the next couple of months.

She sounds like a author that you can read then you need to go off to another area of reading before you can pick up another of her books. I seem to get into a low sad state if I read many serious books in a row.

I agree with that. I had picked up The Pact and just could not interest myself in reading about a suicide pact. I tend to move a way from certain authors after a time because I appreciate them more when I come back.

A suicide pact.... That is a bit much. I would have to be in the right mood to pick up a book that serious. However, it takes a strong person to write about such intense issues.

I read Nineteen Minutes and didn't like it much because I felt she tried too hard to include every "teen issue." By including just about everything, she distracted from the main issue which could have been explored some more. But that's just my opinion on that one. I don't know about her other books, so I'm thinking about reading another one. Do you have any suggestions on what other one by Picoult I should read next?

try The Pact: A Love Story. it was the first book i read by her and i really enjoyed it. i think a movie was made from the book a long time ago.

I've only read a few of her books, but for the most part I think she writes well and brings up a lot of current issues or issues that the public should be aware of, but often her endings are a cop out (Example: My Sister's Keepers).

I have read My Sister's Keeper and Handle With Care by Jodi Picoult. My Sister's Keeper was brilliant and Handle With Care was good, but not the ending.

I've read My Sister's Keeper & Nineteen Minutes...both were pretty good. I started reading Second Glance and am finding it super difficult to finish. I just can't get into this one for some reason.

Annaclaire, I know this is an old post, but was just curious what you mean about My Sister's Keeper's ending being a cop-out? I am always interested in other perspectives and this one is completely different than mine. I tend to see the message in JP's books and to me the message in this one was so strong, showing how easily it is to get caught up in caring for the child who "needs it most" only to find that all of them are precious and you never know when they might be taken from you. I am anxious to hear back from you on this one...
