Brenda | 144 comments The book is paper back (blue or green and I read it in the mid 1970's and can't remember the title or author.
It's about a couple living together and the guy is a scam artist. I remember they're on the subway (in New York maybe?) and the guy is pretending to be blind to get people to give him money. He's waving his cup around and singing about "big mack trucks coming to mow me down" (Maybe he's trying to get the girl's attention and doing it for a joke, or they are both in on it - I can't remember). Then at the end of the book there is an explosion in an apartment building or office building where the girl works. I think she dies, but can't remember if her boyfriend did it or someone got to her because of all the scamming she did. Not much to go on, I know, but just wondered if anyone knows of this - always wanted to find it again.
Thanks.

Dave | 15 comments It's called "A Glimpse of Tiger" by Herman Raucher, the author of "The Summer of '42". A pretty hilarious book, for the most part. "'42" is well worth the effort if you've never read it,or have only seen the movie. Raucher also wrote, "There Should Have Been Castles", an epic romance novel set in NYC involving a writer and a dancer involved in the Golden Era of Television.

Brenda | 144 comments Thank you so much Dave - I completely forgot that the author wrote The Summer of 42 - thank you for jogging my memory. I have been looking for this since 1977! Thanks again.

Dave | 15 comments Wow! '77. I know the feeling, this website helped me find a book I'd been looking for almost as long.
I always remembered that "Tiger" ended with a quote going something like "There's a fine line between genius and insanity." or "a genius and a madman". It made an impression, a very good book.

Brenda | 144 comments Yes, I think the last line was something like that - but just before that there was also something like 'when I remember about us I will think kindly of you and I will smile' ...I now need to find and re-read it.
