My vote would still go to Colleen McCullough, and Thorn Birds is still my alltime favourite."

I agree with The Thorn Birds being a wonderful book, and Colleen McCullough is certainly an amazing lady:)

Shane Don't really have a stand out Aussie author, sadly. But I guess that's the main reason I joined this group - to find my favorite!

Colleen McCullogh is my favourite author especially her books about Rome. But my favourite book by an Australian author has to be The Book Thief. I have not read anything else by him yet.

I'll definately look out for more Aussie authors Brenda. I read one at school in Newcastle (NSW, way back in the Dark Ages LOL)called The Surprising Asians by Frances Letters (can't find it on Goodreads) her true experiences backpacking through Vietnam during the war - it was fascinating, and another I enjoyed was called The Passage, can't remember who wrote it though unfortunately - I must check it out on Goodreads!

It's got a lot of high star ratings Michael...it's horror isn't it? I've wondered about it and have it on my TBR list....

message 425: by Phrynne, Series Queen! (new)

Phrynne | 15790 comments Mod
It's not really horror - at least not the kind that you have to read only in sunlight when there are lots of people around! The vampires are not the sparkly kind though. I bought this as an audio book and when I finished I went out and bought the hardback because I felt I had to own it. It was that good. The sequel is coming soon!

It's more a book of survival, but it does have vampires in it but they are only a minor part

Alayne (ozcopilot) | 35 comments Last week I picked up "Looking for Alibrandi" in a Lifeline shop for 50 cents! Never read it, heard so much about it, so I thought I'd buy it at that huge expense ;-). I thoroughly enjoyed it and would have read it through without a break if not for work. I was so impressed that I have looked up her other works. Would love to read them, but even the e-books are expensive, so will have to find them in Lifeline or elsewhere I think!

I thought the vampires were a major part. Are they not the twelve that the stories are all about?

Melissa Wray I absolutely love Bryce Courtenay. I had the priviledge to meet him in person a couple of years ago. He is just as much a story teller in person as in his books. If you have never read his work then get on to it because he has released over 20 titles and you will love them all!

James Loftus | 134 comments I love Tim Winton and I also love Colleen McCullough. Both are absolute geniuses. Tim Winton describes things so well if he writes it's raining I rush for a raincoat.

Melissa Crowe Bryce Courtenay and Colleen McCullough. I am a little embarrased to say I haven't read Tim Winton, what would be a good book of his to start with, any recommendations?
