Uh-oh Paul. Then we will need to start discounting A LOT of 'naturalised' Aussie authors. I'm naturalised but consider myself an Australian author (in the making) and I if I succeed to get published one day I hope that's how the readers see me. Cheers, Maja

Paul, in Australia most people are from somewhere else. That goes for authors too. I have been here for over a quarter of a century and consider myself Western Australian (does that count?) in all I do. My original culture just gives me a greater depth and edge. My readers have come to expect a mixture of characters, and a lot of great locations. According to Luke (out soon, with BeWrite Books) has two Australian protagonists, who meet in Italy, proceed to Malta, have the most catastrophic climax in Damascus, and end up in the Victorian countryside, not far from Wilson's Prom.

Maggi would love it because it is a romantic mystery with deep emotion and personal dilemmas, but also car chases, guns, money and murder.

We have some terrific authors in Australia, many of whom were born 'somewhere else'. And as we know, Somewhere Else is a very exotic place! Let's take what the British-born have contributed. Brian Kavanagh, who lives in Melbourne, writes great whodunnits. Anna Jacobs, who lives in WA can keep all the romance lovers, both historical and contemporary, happy with her 53 books. Meredith Whitford, who writes rip-roaring historicals, lives in South Australia, and Janet Woods, who lives in WA too, writes these terrific romantic-plus-more novels. And there's always me! I write art history mysteries and literary collections of short stories (great for an ebook commute.) I feel I am a pretty typical Australian author.

At the moment it's Jessica Shirvington! Read Enticed, the follow up to Embrace and it was amazing, couldn't put in down. So much history weaved in with fantasy and emotions running through the story. Can't wait until October for the third book Emblaze - and for once we get it before the rest of the world. Go Aussies!

Two of my fave aussie authors would be Patricia Shaw (she wrote about 15 books in her series spanning the colonial years) and Juliet Marillier (the Sevenwaters series, the Bridei chronicles and several stand alone)

As some of you may know, I really like Kate Grenville and Peter Carey and enjoy historical fiction set around the time of the early settlement in Australia. So based on those two can anyone recommend similar Australian authors/works?
