Let me think on it a while and I'll get back to you. I know you love JRT and Stephen King so I'll try and find something in either of those 2 genres,

I also like crime fiction as well, and I have tried a few (Tara Moss, Peter Corris, Gabrielle Lord.)

message 259: by Neko (new)

Neko @Paul- Have you read any books by Marshall Browne? He's Australian and writes crime fiction.

Helene Young (heleneyoung) | 27 comments Paul, try either of Bronwyn Parry's books, the new author Jaye Ford, or Katherine Howell - all aussies and all with crime/suspense premises.

message 266: by Maggi (new)

Maggi Andersen I love a crime or suspense element in a romance. Stephanie Laurens does that well.

message 267: by Neko (new)

Neko I really enjoy crime too..But usually only if it's true.

I'm a sucker for true stories mostly and usually the grittier the better xD Kinda like my gaming style i think.

Well spotted David. I'm pretty bad with ames so my apologies to the authors out there. I keep spelling Kai Miller and the guy's name is Kei Miller - bad form! And then I complain when people do it to my name :)

Maja | 13 comments Paul wrote: "I probably won't be too popular here but I can't say one Aussie author strikes me enough to say I have a favourite. Used to like Matthew Reilly but he is now stuck in formula, never been able to re..."

Uh-oh Paul. Then we will need to start discounting A LOT of 'naturalised' Aussie authors. I'm naturalised but consider myself an Australian author (in the making) and I if I succeed to get published one day I hope that's how the readers see me. Cheers, Maja

message 270: by Rosanne (new)

Rosanne Paul, in Australia most people are from somewhere else. That goes for authors too. I have been here for over a quarter of a century and consider myself Western Australian (does that count?) in all I do. My original culture just gives me a greater depth and edge. My readers have come to expect a mixture of characters, and a lot of great locations. According to Luke (out soon, with BeWrite Books) has two Australian protagonists, who meet in Italy, proceed to Malta, have the most catastrophic climax in Damascus, and end up in the Victorian countryside, not far from Wilson's Prom.

Maggi would love it because it is a romantic mystery with deep emotion and personal dilemmas, but also car chases, guns, money and murder.

We have some terrific authors in Australia, many of whom were born 'somewhere else'. And as we know, Somewhere Else is a very exotic place! Let's take what the British-born have contributed. Brian Kavanagh, who lives in Melbourne, writes great whodunnits. Anna Jacobs, who lives in WA can keep all the romance lovers, both historical and contemporary, happy with her 53 books. Meredith Whitford, who writes rip-roaring historicals, lives in South Australia, and Janet Woods, who lives in WA too, writes these terrific romantic-plus-more novels. And there's always me! I write art history mysteries and literary collections of short stories (great for an ebook commute.) I feel I am a pretty typical Australian author.

message 271: by Katherine (new)

Katherine (katherine88) At the moment it's Jessica Shirvington! Read Enticed, the follow up to Embrace and it was amazing, couldn't put in down. So much history weaved in with fantasy and emotions running through the story. Can't wait until October for the third book Emblaze - and for once we get it before the rest of the world. Go Aussies!

Arielle (elleira92) | 5 comments Markus Zusak & Liane Moriarty!
I need to read some Kate Morton, more Melina Marchetta, and generally just more from aussie authors to really gauge a proper opinion.

message 275: by Grant (new)

Grant | 30 comments Hmm. I enjoyed Temeraire by Naomi Novik. I've read a few of Matthew Reilly's books, but they can be a bit over the top and unrealistic at times which kind of annoys me.

oh yeah and Tamara Mckinley for her Oceania trilogy, thats begins with Land Beyond the Seas

Don't like all Colleen Mac's books, but loved Morgan's Run. No temptation to skim like I did with The Thorn Birds, I'd have missed something interesting if I did.

Being new to the group, I thought I'd post here first. My two favourite authors happen to both be Australian: Markus Zusak and Peter Temple. I actually read more paranormal/fantasy than anything these these days, but I still love these guys!

Adhityani (dhitri) As some of you may know, I really like Kate Grenville and Peter Carey and enjoy historical fiction set around the time of the early settlement in Australia. So based on those two can anyone recommend similar Australian authors/works?
