I personally think that that much is likely to be limited to people under the age of 20 (especially if they have a month-long vacation by a lake).

Okay so the 17x is fictional. I am 37 and friends say it is my age but if my body could handle it I would be all over the 17x. This would be with Alexander? lol

I get that too from my husband. He thinks I am obsessed with books and certain characters, which I am :)
The idea of having sex with Alexander 17x a day for 29 days straight sounds both exhilarating and absolutely painful :) I mean, my body would just not be able to handle that no matter how aroused I was by him. I think it may be a tad unrealistic, even for two very young people in love/lust who had longed for each other over a year. The body just would eventually wear itself out. The way they instantly had sex within seconds is far fetched too. Unless they were always so turned on at all time (which seemed to be the case). In any event, it sounds like paradise to me lol.
The surroundings definitely helped, but even in the cold of Leningrad they were together many times. I think it was just their overwhelming passion for one another.
In answer to the first question about why Alexander makes such a good romantic hero. He believed in his first love like nobody else had and would have done anything and sacrificed anything to protect her. He is the stuff dreams are made of :) But he had his weaknesses sure. He was at times arrogant, controlling, and very possessive. He also had a seriously bad temper which I found both intimidating and very sexy at times lol. I'm such a typical female :)

I think that's what makes Alexander so unbelievable. He's smart, strong, completely romantic, AND in touch with his sexuality. I mean come on...! That temper too. The scene where she first comes back to Leningrad and they fight by the window and she puts his hand on her and he attacks her...SOO HOT!

I don't recall any mention of an amount of times they were together in a given day. I just knew that they were insatiable, to me that isn't un-realistic at all. Newly weds tend to be that way.
Well Tatiana asks Shura later on how many times did they make love at Lazarevo during their 29 days and he says he's not sure how many zeros come after "29" lol. So it's in the hundreds! My God how could they leave each other after THAT?? :(

I saw Alexander's anger (at his parents, Russia, etc.) adding a lot of intensity to their sex. I keep trying to tell my husband we should have sex when we're angry, but he doesn't believe me. :)
Are any of these heroes based on actual men? I always kind of assume they are glorified versions of what we would like.

Definitely a glorified version of what we would like, but he's not exactly perfect. In the loving sense yes, but he has his complications which is what makes him so desirable. ChristinaRae, I agree about the anger aspect. He lived a very hard life for someone so young. Losing his home, his parents, and being stuck in another country probably made him bitter and hard. He said so himself he never wished to find relationships with women which is why he was just having random sex with them. I think that's why he loves Tatiana so much because she broke through all that and saw who he really was.
I loved those parts in TBH when they were close and romantic, and sometimes raw and primal.
