Yes, I can tell! LOL I like shopping at B&N for bargain books. They are usually very inexpensive. For example I got The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane for $2, and added some other bargain books that were about $1. Once I hit $10 I had free shipping.

Carolyn F. I'll have to check them out. Amazon only gives free shipping for books you buy from them not other sellers on Amazon. And you have to reach $25.00 in order to get the free shipping. Sometimes my cart just hovers for a week for so until I reach $25.00.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments B&N is the same, you can't get free shipping from offsite sellers. I'm a member so I get free shipping over $10, otherwise it's $25.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I need some help. I'm thinking about going into the e book world. But I want to know more about it. I don't want to spend the money on a Kindle - so are they in PDF format or do I need other devices/programs to read them? What are storage considerations? And, what other devices can I read them on, once purchased? My phone maybe?

HELP!!!!

:-) TIA

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments There are many books you can buy in .pdf format. For those you only need Adobe reader on your computer and that is free. My son in law was showing me his phone and he has several free books on there, but some others that cost about $10 for eReaders such as Kindle or Sony cost $15 on his phone.

Just be sure and check into all your options and browse Amazon, B&N, Borders, eHarlequin, etc to see what they are charging.

Amazon has stopped selling Macmillan publishers books because of pricing and some other restrictions that Macmillan was putting in place. They publish Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters as well as many other very popular series/authors.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Gosh, ladies. I'm torn because the cost of the reader is so high, and they are charging so much for the books. In some cases they are charging as much or HIGHER than the paperbacks. AND they are limited to the reader you have. That scares me because Apple computers screwed over a bunch of their customers back in the 80's when they had come out with this amazing computer, then stopped making software for it. We the consumers were forced to pay horrifically high prices for software from 3rd party vendors. This is why I'm worried about investing in an ereader and then being limited to what format I have to buy my books in.

OR, if they start changing the format of books and they don't work on my reader.

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments I really like my Sony Reader. It will read several different file types, although I've discovered that I like PDF the best. That works out well, since most e-book vendors sell in PDF format. There is also a free e-book organizer called Calibre that I like. It will also do some types of file conversions.

Admittedly, I'm using my Reader far differently that most people do. I've had it since last May and up until about a month ago, I hadn't purchased a single book for it, everything in it was free. Since then I've bought four e-books and have plans to buy four more this month, but they are all ones that aren't available in PB. Even though I like my Sony and wouldn't trade it for any other e-reader, I would gladly trade it for a real book any day.;-)

Krabby Kitton | 4 comments I still say paper can do you no wrong..unless you drop it in the tub. If you did that to a kindle... Plus, books do eventually dry out. (haha..maybe I'm the only reading in the tub) Unless you have something small like an ipad or eee laptop, it seems kind of hard to cuddle up with a pc to read the pdf formatted books. A couple of things I have found to be beneficial with reading on a kindle is the instant gratification of getting a book and reading with one hand. Reading with one hand is highly underrated as I find that having a free hand to reach for the whiskey...i mean sweet tea...is ever so delightful! =D
However, with the higher prices some publishers are demanding for their non paperback books, I'm sticking with my paperbacks.

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Thanks for your input ladies, I really appreciate it. I've just recently discovered some books that I want, and I think that the best way to purchase them is as an e book - I'm just trying to decide how/if/when to go down that road. I know we're moving to the whole paperless society thing, but I do love seeing my bookes lined up in a bookcase and held in my hands!

I'll let you know more as I make my decision!

Julianna (authorjuliannad) | 380 comments That's mainly why I decided to get my Sony Reader. I was starting to see lots of freebies and books that were only available as e-books, and felt like I was missing out. I still buy "real" books when they are available though, because like you, I enjoy seeing them on my shelf and holding them in my hands.:-) Not to mention, if I happen to buy a dud, I can always trade/re-sell, but with an e-book, I would just be out the money.

Pamela(AllHoney) (pamelap) I too love my paperbacks but when I go on trips I can't pack more than 4 or 5 books and I often wish I would have brought something else with me. I figure having a e reader may enable me to have a little more choices plus as mentioned sometimes there are ebooks not out in paperback. Plus the compact size will fit in my purse (yes, so can a book but my books get wrinkled).
