Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments What's your library or book case like? Where do you store all of your books? Where do you like to have them?

I have one big bookcase which I don't use..it's in the basement since I moved. I will probably have to use it as I'm running out of room elsewhere. But upstairs in my bedroom I have one of those cubed bookecases from Target, I love it - it's really cute. Next to it on the floor I have my TBR pile. I love how it's become so tall - as tall as the bookcase. I do have a couple of bins in the basement with some books in them, but they are slowly making their way upstairs. I suffered a HUGE loss to my library last year. The basement of my rental flooded and my books were still in boxes - I hadn't moved them into a bookcase yet. I cannot begin to tell you how heartbreaking it was. Ugh...so now I'm slowly building my library again.

But what does your library look like at your house?

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 3737 comments My mother and sister let me turn the spare bedroom into a library. All the walls are lined with bookcases. I also have bookshelves in the hallway and entrance way. I have one large bookcase in my room, and some smaller ones. Oh, I am crazy about books!

Me too! I have my office and it has some bookshelves in it but not tall ones so they don't offer a lot of room.

My office has probably 5 small bookshelves, including some cubes from Target (just like Bekah) which are like 3 deep of books! Plus there are piles of TBR books and read books next to those. I have a spot in my office closet that has shelving space so there are books on there 3 deep as well.

I have rubbermaid bins under my bed, 2 baskets of TBR books in my room. There is also one small treasure box full of TBR books, plus I just purchased two more large ones! (They're empty right now, though). *big breath* plus two tall bookshelves in the front room with my hardcovers and an old empty crate with 2 rows of 3 books deep. :) Is that descriptive enough?

I'm too embarrassed to take pictures because it looks such a mess!

message 7: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I want a seperate room one day. I actually could have one in my current home, but its just that its downstairs and i'm sorta scared after the flood. It was sort of a freak flood, but still...I'm not a millionaire, and books aren't cheap. But in my ideal 'dream' library - there would be a fireplace, nice plush rugs, big floor pillows, a chaise lounge, and one of those huge bedlike couches.... I'm gonna go look for pieces of my dream furniture.. I can dream, can't I?

Lynsey A (lovesdarcy) | 29 comments Bekah,
Sounds wonderful! Oooh, I get jealous at just the thought someone out there has that already. :-)

How relaxing that sounds! I could probably spend all day in a library like that.

Danielle...you are so lucky to have a spare room to convert to a library. I bet it looks beautiful! I never thought about putting bookshelves in hallways, but that is a really good idea. I have most of my books in my bedroom and office. Fortunately, I have built-ins, but I wish there were more. I am so running out of space that it is not even funny.

Bekah...I like your idea of a dream library. I want one too!!! I am sorry about the flood damage you had because I have heard that is just terrible. I have friends in Ireland that are going through that right now with their home and it is just awful. Hugs!

Lynsey...I am going to have to check out the cube bookcases from Target because they sound like they would be really neat to store books in. I am always looking for ideas!

Ally - I got them awhile ago but they were like a "bookshelves" but only in a cube shape. There is only one shelf on each but I used the floor as well. No worries of floods in my office. (I hope) I put two together. I'll try and take a picture of it an upload it tonight.

--I'm glad my family puts up with my book addiction. I plan to take pictures when I get things a little more neat. I need to buy some furniture so I can actually sit down and read in the library. I have enough room for a chair and a small table and lamp. Not exactly English library, but I'm not complaining. :)

I will post a pic tonight! They are SOOOOO Cute..plus you can buy those pull out cloth cubes. Do you know what I mean? I love mine...best bookshelf I've purchased to date. Although...I haven't stacked my books 3 deep...it is possible...I've just never thought of it. I will have to do that soon, as I am running out of room.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments My shelves were nice and tidy until I discovered the used bookstore and even worse, this weekend I found the Friends of the Library! *gasp* They had a 1974 copy of Devil's Desire for .50 cents! It is a mess, but I kind of love the nostalgia of it. The inside cover is dated with stamps for the times it was checked out from the library!

I love finding those gems. Like you, Bekah, I am a big fan of used books. That's why my book collection is so enormous.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish | 8001 comments Bekah wrote: "ok, so any suggestions on how to post my pic here or where i should upload it?"

I do mine through photobucket. Once you have your photobucket account and picture on your computer, you upload it to photobucket (it's free). When it's uploaded, they will give you several codes for different ways to post it. For goodreads, you need the code that stars < a Copy that code then just paste it into the chat box. Click preview to make sure it's the way you want it, then post.

Try following the instructions I gave Bekah. That might work for you. Good luck!

message 37: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments Well, that is the main bookcase, the other areas - bins and desk tops and such are not quite as neat! :-)

I was wondering - this is something I struggle with- when you guys are shopping, do you take a copy of your wish list every time? I imagine like mine its always growing and changing. I try not to waste paper and print it out everytime but I always forget which book it is I specifically need if it's not written down in front of me! One of the great things about goodreads after the great friends I've met and the great book suggestions, is that I get to list all the books I own, and want to own and all of that. I love having it in one central place. I just want to access it better I guess. Does anyone have any suggestions on how they shop? Do any of you list your book supply in another way?

I'm going shopping today... for one book...but I know I'm not leaving with just one!

message 38: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Behak, I usually bring a list of what I have instead of specifically what I want. I find that easier because there are too many books that I want. :)

message 39: by [deleted user] (last edited Jan 26, 2010 07:35AM) (new)

This is a great thread. Mine are all on a books shelve and I have a couple boxes under the bed. I have the catagorized(OCD kicking in) and in order they were written by the authors or by series. Will tryt o get a photo up. I have a big old Victorian house pre 1880's and I would love to make one of the rooms a library.....shoot I have 16 of them, one would work!

Rane - I like your book shelf, it holds a lot w/o taking up a lot of space! I need to be buying another one...I'm fast running out of room. I'm debating on another cube one from Target.

message 42: by Lisarenee (new)

message 44: by Lisarenee (new)

Lisarenee | 392 comments Rane, Looks like you are triple stacking the rows? 2 rows per shelf (1 in front of the other) with additional books stacked on top? So there are more than you'd expect at first glance, huh?

Lynsey A (lovesdarcy) | 29 comments Rane and Pamela,
Love your bookshelves! Isn't it fun to see how other people store their books. :-) Everyone is a bit different in how they organize things.

Bekah,
I have a composition book where I write down the books I want or need to complete a series and take that with me to the bookstore. I usually carry a pretty large purse and I keep it in there. Albeit, I don't always get every book I want on the list but at least I do have it.

I posted my pictures on my profile because I wasn't sure how to post them in a well, post. LOL

message 50: by Bekah, Fellow Kleypasaholic (new)

Bekah (bekah317) | 2750 comments I'm in the big purse club as well, so I am sorta leaning to your idea Lynsey - it seems the best use of paper... :-)
