Layla is a great name! Do you know that that is the name of the heroine in a very old Eastern-Arabian legend-book-love story-ballad` "Layla and Majnun"? It is like the "Romeo and Juliet" of the East. and Layla was so beautiful, so.... I love that story

Ok, better later than never......I have a girl named Riley Jade and my son is Ashton Wilson. With my daughter, we went strictly with what we liked. There is no connection to anyone else or any interesting story behind how we got there (obviously:). I chose the first name and my husband chose the middle name. We often call her R.J.With my son we went round and round. Boy names are def harder! I loved the first name Dane, but our last name is Cook, and...well....you know. We settled on Ashton because we actually liked the shortened version Ash a lot. That's what we call him most of the time. His middle name is my husband's brother's name. He's still alive and the younger brother, btw.
Sally, for what it's worth, I LOVE Amelia. I also like Ian, Seth and Nathan for a boy. I'm not sure how common they are though.

wow you got ALL of my top boy names in there! We ended up choosing Aydan thinking we were all orginal...HA! Now we know about 15 Aydans or Aiden or whatever variation.
We picked names, and 7.5 is somewhat right but we might have changed slightly. I think we should all wait now to meet the little one to be properly introduced.
I don't wait patiently, but I'll wait none the less.
I protest! I like "Heidi!">: /
OH! And this past weekend, while I was gardening, I realized I really like the name Agnes, too... because I think "Aggie" is a cute nickname and an even cuter name for an auntie - "Aunt Aggie." Plus, I have an Aunt Agnes. :) So that's why I was thinking that.
I know several Austins, too. If I ever have an Agnes who goes by the nickname of Aggie, she'll just have to be "Agnes" whenever we visit Austin. That should solve that problem. :)
I cannot think of the name Agnes without adding Mary - as in "Mary Agnes." I'm sorry, but Agnes is a nun's name. Same with Esther - I always think "Mary Esther." The funny thing is that I don't think of Mary as a nun's name.
Heidifer would be cruel.

Nothing against Heidi, but Heidifer makes me think of Black spotted cows.

Well when you grow up in WI, with heifers(cows) it seems more logical right?

No, but holstein heifers are, and that is what 90% of the farms around where I grew up had.

Okay so it seems I'm too late to actually make a difference but I'm gonna add my two cents anyway. I love the names Nikoaha, Ariana, and Taylee. Sorry, I'm not so good with or fond of the classic names.
The Social Security administration has released its list of top 10 most popular baby names of the year. (With a hideously misplaced apostrophe, which I have removed. Breathing deeply....I will be fine.)

I named my son Dylan after Dylan Thomas, my favourite poet at the time (30 some years ago). It wasn't as common then as it became a few years later. For some reason, all my friends thought I named him after Bob Dylan which struck me as odd since I wasn't naming him Robert or Bob. I also found out, years later, that I was pronouncing it wrong and that it should be pronounced Di-lan. Oh well, Dylan it remained.Anyway, a few literary suggestions:
Ariel
Arianna
Siobhan (pronounced Shivon)
Bronwen
Evalina
For boys:
Sebastian
Nicholas

And I meant that as a compliment, Petra. :)
Today in the Indian state of Maharashtra, about 285 girls received certificates, little bouquets, and—most importantly—brand-new names that don't mean "unwanted." Because that's what their names were, until today: Unwanted.

I like the writer's take on things: "Reports don't say whether any girls named themselves the Marathi equivalent of "my parents suck" or "fuck you mom and dad" or "don't expect me to take care of you when you're old—ask one of your wanted kids. Assholes."
I like unusual names.........sorry if these have already been mentioned. Lazy ass that I am, I haven't read the whole thread. I wanted to name my first daughter Rhiannon Nicole. Her father wasn't having anything to do with Rhiannon, although I insisted upon Nicole, after my cousin. Bastard. So, you'd have thought, I'd have named my second girl Rhiannon, but the name Cheyenne Dawn just stuck in my head. What pissed me off is after I named both of my girls, the name Nicole and the name Cheyenne became very popular. I did not want my kids to have the same names as everyone else's kid. I've always thought a bad ass boy's name would be Blayze. Who's gonna screw with a big ol' boy named Blayze?

My special pet name is, "You were never there for me when I needed you growing up, you fat bastard, so I sure the fuck hope you don't expect me to be there for you when you're old and helpless." Luckily, my name when speaking of Mama is, "You are the shizzit, lady. I will defend you and take care of you until my dying breath."
Some people should be sterilized. Painfully.
I've always been partial to the names Donovan and Seth for boys. My taste in girl names frequently changes, so I'm not much help there.
