Kate (kshiv) | 51 comments Twilight mentality. I love the term and would love to hear a definition. I think we all are lucky to have someone like Cary with us who has a different opinion from the Eric lovers. We Eric lovers are a tough group, but this is not an Eric Northman fan club. (i would gladly be president if it was) We all need to hear different points of view to explore and further enjoy the books. Why do I love Eric? Why do I think Bill is a boring, cold hearted bastard? Everyone is here b/c they enjoy talking aobut the books. It's not deep philosophical discussion. It's just fun. I don't think anyone should ever have to apologize for liking a specific character and talking about it. Back to the twilight mentality.... Those Twi-hards are crazy. Watch out.

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I wanna be president of the Bill lover's fan club! :P

lol

Leah (ling_ling) | 29 comments ooo Fan Club.. haha brilliant!

and I agree with Kate exactly!

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I am not a Eric Northman fan. I don't hate the character but I don't LOVE him either. I can care less about his sex appeal. How you act towards others is more important. I am not saying Eric hasn't changed but I am not buying into that Eric "loves" Sookie either. I think Sookie is an "investment" for Eric. After all, he is a businessman. That is my stand.

message 58: by Leah (new)

Leah (ling_ling) | 29 comments I can see where you are coming from but then I think about how when he was cursed it was outside of Sookie's house that he ended up.. he is definitely a buisnessman and he treats things in his world that way but I think he does care about Sookie as well.. but I think we'll have to really wait and see what happens in the next book to have it all sorted out..

I tend to think that the persona that came out when he had amnesia is him stripped of all his life experiences and so minus that buisness like harder shell and in that sense (especially after he remembered what it was like then after Dead to Worse) that deep down he does love her.. but I don't know if he's been able to come to terms with that possibility.

In the long wrong though, part me is hoping a character that hasn't shown up yet comes in and sweeps Sookie off her feet..

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) nod me too. Sookie needs to date more.

message 61: by Starling (new)

Starling The pluses for Eric have already been mentioned. The driveway, the front door and the coat.

Especially the driveway. He asked why Sookie didn't fix her driveway. She lost it and let him know just how hard up she was for money BECAUSE she was being pulled away from her job to do vampire things.

Eric was shocked that Bill wasn't taking care of his dependent, which is how he saw Sookie at that point. Eric takes care of his dependents. And the way he got the driveway fixed dealt with the entire idea that Sookie might refuse it. Or that she would think that people would see her as a kept woman.

At that point there was no Sookie and Eric.

In a later book he arranges for Sookie to buy clothes for a trip and for Eric to pay for them. He explains to Sookie that Pam and some of the male vampires going on the trip also have accounts in stores close to where they live. Again, there is no question of her being a kept woman.

The problem of the two were Alphas is the same problem. Although I like Calvin as a person and don't feel the same way about Alcide. They have responsibilities that Sookie would find difficult to deal with. Calvin isn't going to be doing any more baby making, but he has got children to care for.

I expect there will be someone new. If not it will be Eric because the supe community sees Eric and Sookie as married.

You forget that Sookie doesn't want to be someone's dependent. She made this clear from day one with Bill! And all Eric's "gifts" I saw as a ploy to endear her to him, nothing more. I think it was calculated.

Does Eric care for her? I thinks so. When he had amnesia proved it, (even though that entire time I thought he was just pathetic in his actions.) but once he was of his right mind he went back to being Eric the businessman and sheriff. She will never come first with him.

message 63: by Kenna (new)

Kenna (kennas) eh, kathy...I dont know about that last paragraph. I still havent read the last books #'s 8 and 9(still trying to get caught up from layoffs/job losses)but after the amnesia...it was probably my imagination but I thought I sensed some tenderness there. the problem with Eric is that, being the Sheriff, he has to act/be tough. How would it look to all the other vamps if the great Eric Northman had a thing for a puny human. He cant show weakness or they will eat him alive...er...dead? Anyway, there are little snippets of what she means to him when he drops most everything to come and help her or has people put her calls through no matter what. Him returning to his old self doesnt mean he likes her less than when he was memory chalenged...he just has to like her different because shes human.

I have no opinion about whom she should end up with as I havent read them all to date.

message 64: by Starling (new)

Starling Sookie might not want to be a dependent, but Eric felt that Sookie deserved to have the loss of money that resulted from her working for him replaced. Since it hadn't been worked out before she took off from her job, he replaced the driveway.

At that point he was her boss and realized that no one had arranged for her to get a paycheck. It doesn't matter if someone who is working for you doesn't want to be seen as an employee. If you are an honorable boss (Eric), and discover that the supervisor (Bill) didn't arrange for the employee
(Sookie) to get paid for the work she did, you get the employee paid.

The coat was definitely calculated. By then there was a Eric and Sookie. She expected the coat to arrive by that time, and when it did, she smiled.

As to her coming first, yes he has responsibilities to keep all of his people safe and also to keep the business running so everyone, himself included, have enough money to live well. But that is true of all of the Alpha males. Except for Bill, all of the men she is attracted to, including Sam (even if only as a friend), have responsibilities.

message 65: by CindyToo (new)

CindyToo | 107 comments Eric pays attention; when Sookie indicates she wants or needs something, he takes action. Aside from the "gifts" mentioned, we have examples that include staking Longshadow, sending flowers, taking bullets in Dallas, making the maenad apology, effecting the Josephine's getaway, wearing pink lycra and pretending to be gay, taking more bullets from the were-cop. The list goes on and on. I guess you can tell who's number one on my list;) Sam's a distant second and there's no third that we've been introduced to. Of course, all IMO.

message 66: by CindyToo (new)

CindyToo | 107 comments I almost forgot, he also tells Sookie she's great and beautiful . . . often, what's not to love?

message 67: by Starling (last edited Feb 07, 2010 07:17AM) (new)

Starling Well, since there is no Sam and Sookie, except that he trusts her to take over the bar and supervise it in his absence, there is no reason for a list of things that he has done for her.

But trust is a real big thing, in my opinion. He started by giving her a job when no one else would because she was "crazy" and as she bloomed, at least in part because she had a job and was doing it well, he gave her more responsibility. Great boss in my opinion.

message 68: by Starling (new)

Starling Angela, that pretty much sums it up for me as well, except for one thing. I don't blame Quinn for his mother's problems or rather for having to deal with his mother's problems. It is the honorable thing for him to do, but until he comes up with a way to deal with her permanently, he can't take on a family of his own. His sister looks like she will grow up and take care of herself. It isn't her fault she was a child who needed parenting. But his mother will be a problem for the rest of Quinn's life.

message 69: by Julia (new)

Julia | 58 comments And I think Sookie really blew this. She was angry at Quinn for taking care of his mother. This should show her how dedicated and loyal he is, but no, Sookie cuts him off.

I liked Bill, but Sookie needs to get over herself. We make mistakes; we have prior commitments.

I don't know who Sookie's HEA will be, but I'm pretty sure we haven't met him yet.

message 70: by Kenna (last edited Mar 19, 2010 08:04AM) (new)

Kenna (kennas) Hadleys baby daddy is free now....I wonder if Eric did work that she would end up with him. It makes sense if you think about it. Hes used to living with a telepath and the boy would have someone around all the time to talk to and learn from. I dont remember what book or location where she goes to visit but didnt she think he was attractive anyway?
