It’s always good to spend time with Ms. Erdrich. This book didn’t hold together for me as well as some of hers.

I found myself liking characters that I didn’t expect to like, especially Miss Polly Elizabeth. Good lesson for writers here regarding how much we like characters who are capable of change.

I know I’ve seen Fleur Pillager in other books, but it’s been too long for me to really remember the connections I think I was supposed to remember
