Tristan (mamapatrick) | 1 comments hello all,

I am trying to get familiar with GoodReads - was on the Yahoo group for a long while, but went no mail for a long while (no reading time!) but came back and found out you moved!

so, in trying to get used to this really new format - i am having some trouble. Is there a place on good reads that has a tutorial of sorts? so far, the help I have been able to find has been very specific - I need more of a "welcome to good reads for dummies".

thanks in advance,
Tristan

Glad you found us here, Tristan!

I didn't find a "getting started with GoodReads" help file anywhere, but I see you've added almost 100 books to your library so far so I'm guessing you're well on your way using those functions of the site. You can also take a look at some of the other members' shelves to see how they've organized their shelves (e.g. you can make separate shelves for fantasy, SF, and so on)

In terms of this group, it's now set up more like a message board than an email list, with different folders and topics rather than a long chronological list of emails. You can go back to any topic at any time, so it's easier to get involved in discussions of older Books of the Month now.

A useful link you may want to bookmark is the list of unread message in the group: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/unread...

You can also select which and how many notifications you want to receive by going to "My Account > Notifications" (top right, under "Hi Tristan"). You can choose to receive an email for every new message in the group, or a daily digest, or you can even specify by topic if you want immediate notification or not.

The polls work more or less the same as in the Yahoo group. The entire list is here: http://www.goodreads.com/poll/list/16...

Otherwise, please take a look at the other "Goodreads Tips" topics in this folder (http://www.goodreads.com/topic/group_...) and feel free to ask more questions!

Stefan
