Lissa1229 | 57 comments Those were cool.
Jayme before the show started there was a whole viral web campagin. websites, comericials for trublood (drink), and "news" reports. most of it might still be on youtube. But the major website was eventually taken over by HBO. I'll see if I find the link...
I think you and I are about the same age, so this whole viral advertizing is new to us. LOST, & Movies like BATMAN and Coverfield did it too!

Perhaps Harris is planning to make a spin off of the Fae Folk? Maybe thats why she didnt spend too much time in their little world.

On a side note: I went to Barnes and Noble to get the next book that I havent read....hard backed or not cause Im tired of missing out and THEY. WERE. OUT! They were out of all most ALL of her books! They had a few copies of the first three but that was it and I was all like, damnit. and this guy was like, what? and I was all like, I wanted that book and he was all like, I know I wanted it too and I was all like, wth!? cause he was like, 90. I ended up with two Kim Harrison books.

(Sorry for that little grade school post up there. Im tired and loopy but Im gonna leave it cause it made me giggle. heh.)

The Flooze (the_flooze) Made me laugh too, so it's all good!

message 58: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) What Kenna--you mean you AREN'T 10 years old. I thought that was the median age here in this group. Are you saying that you are actually (gasping in horror) OLDER than that? :oP

(also getting loopy)

message 59: by Kenna (last edited Feb 26, 2010 08:00AM) (new)

Kenna (kennas) You know Ann...some times my Hubby wonders how old I really am. I mean, I still get things out of bubble gum ball machines...you know...if its cool enough. Im still trying to get a pair of those miniature hand cuffs for my key chain and those little doggie stickers with the fun/threatning phrases on them and lets not forget the temp tatoos. my favorites that I have are a Faerie and two cherries that glitter. (I love the idea of a tatoo but Im so fickle that Id change my mind three weeks later and want something that matched my current outfit better.) And I still watch cartoons. On my own. With out the kids. And I love video games.

I think these are all commendable attributes.

message 61: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My husband teases me all the time that I have the interests of a 13 year old boy. I think it makes us more interesting people that we just never fully "grew up".

BTW there are some very cool quarter machine prizes!

message 62: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) hum, Kenna--did it ever occur to you that maybe your hubby was too old and stick in the mud for you? Next time he asks, tell him you are planning on staying young forever. :oP And that HE needs to shape up and get with the program.

And Kandice--what's wrong with the interests of a 13 year old boy? Tell your hubby he's being sexist. That what it really is, is that you have grasped the superior attributes of whatever it is that he's teasing you about, and that it just proves that you have an advanced brain.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) I still watch Disney and the Disney channel and i play video games too. I am on my 12 childhood.

Gabi (gabs187) | 3 comments my thing is why watch the series than go read the book that comes after the show you just watched? hello! totally different stories! also its a series! dont start with like book 4 then to go to book one! why cant people think! i LOVE all the books and i LOVE the show although i will confess i was disappointed they didn't follow the books but hey people screw up all the time lol i dont care now i enjoy it all True Blood and the books are def a guilty pleasure for me *evil laugh*

message 65: by Lisa (new)

Lisa I noticed that ealier in the discussion you all were talking about having to read about the same things over and over (purse in the drawer...etc). I couldn't help but laugh because just yesterday a friend you is somewhat new to the series keeps getting aggravated about all the detail and time wasted describing Sookie's clothes. She was like come on. This is book 5 I know that she wears a boat neck shirt and black shorts to work!! LOL.

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) But people start reading books in the middle of a series not realizing it is a series. :)

message 67: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Jayme, that is exactly what I told her. :-)

message 68: by Gabi (new)

Gabi (gabs187) | 3 comments not me i always notice if its like the 2nd part of the series. because they repeat what happened in the first book.

message 69: by Dana * (new)

Dana * (queenofegypt) I found it a little annoying also at first. But I like the idea that it allows a person to pickup any book and read it for its own value. It is like the "Previously, on Lost" or whatever show that let's you catchup enough to enjoy the story.

Also, I tend to take a long time before getting to the next in the series, for whatever reason. Having those small reminders is helpful to getting back into the mood of the stories.

Fiona wrote: "Sookie storing her purse in Sam's desk drawer? Is this important somehow? I love these books but some things are really repetitive."

I agree. While the little details make you feel like Sookie is living right along with us, somethings can go un said:

Purse in the drawer
Bubba's back story
Andy/ Portia Bellflower don't like sookie. We know!

So I'm still totally addicted.... I'll keep resading.

Sandra (sandram1967) | 67 comments One thing I find that is really bothering me in Definitely Dead is everyone freaking "nods" to each other. Hard Nod, soft nod, angry nod, sharp nod and on and on.
I don't know why but I think it is stupid and irritating.

message 72: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Jayme wrote: "I liked the pirate bartender and then I found out he was the traitor and that pissed me off. "

Me too. LOL. I did like how the patrons helped her off him and she just walked around with broken ribs and Eric came in and they got all protective of her. LOL

message 73: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Sandra--a little late, but I've been busy--nodding is a big part of the culture in the South. I go down to visit family (my parents were born/raised in the South, but Dad was career Navy, so we kids never lived there) and they drive me BONKERS doing that too. So Charlaine is just showing something that is a valid part of the Southern culture. Even so, it CAN get really annoying.

Thanks for filling me in. Makes sense why she has it so much.

I also agree with the person who said they are sick of her in every book spending a lot of time reviewing stuff we already know. I agree with her that if you read them as the series there shouldn't be a need for it. I don't know I felt annoyed with Definitely Dead and am feeling the same with All Together Dead. I dunno....

message 75: by [deleted user] (new)

I figured th nodding was a commen non-verbal comunication thing. I don't mind the nods.

message 76: by Starling (new)

Starling I've never seen a series where the author doesn't "review stuff we already know." Basically they have to for two reasons. Not everyone will read the stories as a series or in order. And they also need to bring you back into some of the things you need to know if it has been a while since you read the last book.

It is annoying if you are reading the series one after the other and you don't need the reminders, but it is what it is. It isn't just Charlaine Harris or only paranormal writers who do this.

I can deal with all of the things people have complained about including the purse in the desk thing and the fact that Bill's great grandchildren don't like Sookie. You can go books without talking about the Bellflowers, so the reminder isn't out of line.

message 77: by Colette (new)

Colette | 15 comments I agree with Starling. Also I think stuff like mentioning the purse in the drawer reminds me that Sookie is just a barmaid who is trying to lead as normal a life as she can. Despite the fact that weird things keep happening and supes are attracted to her, she is just human and sometime it's easy to forget that so those little reminders help me :)

Jayme(theghostreader) (jaymetheghostreader) You can always skip over those little irritating parts. :)

message 79: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (emoonae) | 225 comments Fiona wrote: "Sookie storing her purse in Sam's desk drawer? Is this important somehow? I love these books but some things are really repetitive."

I totally agree! And what about the fact that Sookie never walks? She's always saying things like, "I quickly padded downstairs," or, "I duckwalked around a row of parked cars, keeping as low as I could."

Don't get me wrong, it's nice to use words other that "walk" - and really, "duckwalking" is the most concise way of describing that type of movement - but there are plenty other adequate synonyms like "amble" or "mosey" or "stride" that aren't used in the books as frequently.

message 80: by Starling (new)

Starling Sarah, I've never noticed the absence of the word "walk".

And Sookie's storing her purse in Sam's Desk drawer is a sort of marker for her moving from here position in the supernatural world, to her mundane job in the real world.
