I hate that I thought about posting in this thread when I couldn't sleep last night.

Yay!

message 154: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I was up at 2:30AM. I'm ok. All I have to do is observe students teach today, which involves me sitting in the back of a room with a computer and pretending I'm paying attention.

message 155: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Helena, your schedule fascinates me. I don't know how you keep walking.

message 156: by [deleted user] (new)

I've found there is one upside to insomnia: There is some incredible shit on TV at 3 a.m.

message 157: by Jonathan (new)

Jonathan Lopez | 4726 comments It's true. F-Troop and Columbo never get old.

message 158: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments I just pick up a book and read usually. I've always got something I haven't read yet from the library.

::sigh:: Thanks, but no such luck Jim.

Mark Burns (TheFailedPhilosopher) | 441 comments The upside? More time to read of course!

Poor Sally! :( *hugs*

Gail, I'll join Jim in wishing that you're sleeping soundly right now.

message 164: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments It's 3:24a Pacific Time. I should be sleeping, but just can't. Pippa is really sawing them off though, which I'm jealous of!

Only two hours until the early morning class for Jazzercise. That's the only bonus to this situation that I can come up with right now.

Boo.

message 165: by [deleted user] (new)

Give Pippa a prod. That should help stop the sawing. I hope you get back to sleep soon.

message 166: by Stina (new)

Stina (stinalee) | 749 comments *groggily waves back at Misha* I think I fell asleep at about 4:45a, waking up at 6:50a to get ready for work. That's better than I thought it would be!

message 167: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I'm in the office, 3:29AM. I've been here a couple hours already. Yay for flexible schedules.

message 168: by [deleted user] (new)

I fell asleep at 4am. Up 2 hours later. And we're out of coffee. FML.

Lay awake until 6.

message 172: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Woke at 1AM with nightmares, sort of stared into space a while, then rose, drove to work, getting a lot done, not yet 5AM.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments How are you doing now, RA? You okay?

message 174: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments I usually get a lot of reading done when I have insomnia. which is at least twice a month.

message 175: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I'm better, thanks, librarian. I slept hard last night...8 to 7.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm glad you got some sleep, RA. I love that you slept right through that slumber party. :)

I was up too late last night, watching Buffy and then reading vampire stories from this anthology:
Teeth: Vampire Tales

I did NOT dream about vampires, though. I think I dreamt about work.

message 178: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Which kind, Mishers? Not falling asleep, waking in the middle of the night and not getting back to sleep, all of the above, something different?

I've had nightmares pretty much for a week running. You wake up differently after nightmares...kind of tense.

It is when I can't sleep that I miss television the most.

message 182: by Louise (new)

Louise My husband once got this alarm clock, that would project the time in huge red digits on the wall. That's really "in your face" when you can't sleep!! I got rid of it after a stressful week of not being able to sleep...

message 183: by Michele (new)

Michele bookloverforever (lovebooks14) | 1970 comments been having problems getting to sleep (about 1 AM) and waking early (4 AM) lately. pain in the neck.

I like to hope that that long without good sleep will lead to hallucinations of Brad Pitt.

message 185: by janine (new)

janine | 7709 comments I'd say horrible stretches of insomnia counts as not being able to function properly due to a physical or mental condition, and as such means you qualify for a sick day?

message 186: by Lobstergirl, el principe (new)

Lobstergirl | 24778 comments Mod
I understand limited insomnia. I don't understand insomnia that goes on for days. Doesn't your body eventually get so sleepy you collapse, and you sleep?

message 187: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I've had similar experiences, Misha. Weird question...mentally, do you start to go a little nuts? Like, start to question yourself, get slightly paranoid, etc.? I've heard that's connected with insomnia and I feel some of that, esp. socially, when I haven't slept.

message 188: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Also, I hope you feel better. At least tomorrow is Sunday.

message 189: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Yes, I recognize that "can't remember whether I did something five seconds ago" thing as well. It sucks.

When Leah kept me up for days and days last year I definitely did experience what you mention, RA. It was spooky.

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 538 comments Lobstergirl wrote: "I understand limited insomnia. I don't understand insomnia that goes on for days. Doesn't your body eventually get so sleepy you collapse, and you sleep?"

i suffer from cronic insomnia and have for years. it definitely affects your life. i have to take a strong sedative every night. i hate taking it, but without it i do not sleep at all. literally. and yes, your body does, after weeks of sleeplessness, get so sleepy you collapse. once every 6 weeks or so i crash and will sleep a solid 12-14 hours. cronic insomnia seriously sucks butt nuggets.

message 192: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) Must go to bed. Must go to sleep. Must work tomorrow.

message 193: by RandomAnthony (new)

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments This morning I woke by three, so I watched part of Reservoir Dogs on Netflix (This was the movie to which I took my wife on our first date...what was I thinking?), ate breakfast, started laundry, and cleaned the kitchen floor. I blame the dogs, by the way, for waking me, they were hogging the whole fucking bed.

message 194: by Louise (new)

Louise A few nights ago one of our dogs somehow got into the bedlinens - so she was between the duvet and the sheets, she compeletly panicked and both my husband and I was so awake after getting her out, it took ages to go back to sleep!

message 196: by Karen K. (new)

Karen K. Miller (karenkm) | 140 comments I don't technically take sleeping pills. However, I take Clonopin for anxiety and Nortriptyline for migraine prevention and depression. I sleep OK. Before these medications I slept lightly and woke at the smallest sound.

message 197: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I lie awake at night worrying about insomniacs.
