Ok, so it seems I have created a monster with these challenges. I've noticed that when I ask for monthly book nominations, there are very few - and once a book wins, hardly anyone reads & discusses them.

I've just realized that the month is almost over already, so - should we continue voting for a BOM (BOOK of the month, not beer, LOL!), or should we just let that lapse for a while?

Suzanne | 767 comments If I can get the book from the library, I will read it next month! (whatever we pick). I feel bad that I haven't participated in awhile. I really do want to read and discuss a book!

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments I'm going to choose lapse only because I am focused on Georgia (hee hee) and the challenge. I think because I already have my list in my head of what I want to read already it's going to be tough goings to read a different book on top of it all.

Heather Adkins (heathermarieadkins) | 13 comments I think the book of the month is a good way for us to "connect" as a group, especially if we can use the book of the month in the current challenge. i.e. (I'm not sure how it is right now) we can use The Dairy Queen as the farm option on the challenge. The next two polls could be books that fit into the Winter/Spring challenge. That way we are connecting with each other, and adding towards our own personal challenges.

Does that make sense?

Jen B (jennybee618) I like the idea of keeping a monthly book (esp. if we can find ones that fit into the challenges). My issue with those that have been chosen so far is that I've read most of them -- and I'm not one to re-read, so I'm not going to read them again. And if it has been awhile since I've read them, I can't really participate in the discussions.

Maybe since there's a limited number of Red Dress Ink books, we could expand the nominations a little bit and nominate/choose books that are by RDI authors but not necessarily published by Red Dress Ink? (i.e. Melissa Senate's new book, The Secret of Joy, isn't a RDI book, but she was an RDI author) That would give a little more variety in our nominations/choices, and maybe encourage more people to read them.

Tara I like that idea Jen. It would give a little more of a variety.

Suzanne | 767 comments I like Jen's idea too!

message 9: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 767 comments I 2nd the nomination! I really want to read it.

Great idea Jen! I hadn't thought about that before.

So it looks like we're in favor of keeping the monthly book nominations. And I agree with Heather about nominating something that will fit in with the challenge for most everyone. That's what I have been trying to do with my nominations since we started the challenges.

With that said, sure we can nominate The Secret of Joy, but does anyone have any suggestions of which task it can be used for?

We can continue to use this thread for February nominations.

In that case - I'll nominate Hating Valentine's Day by Allison Rushby. (Task #5.3)

Jen B (jennybee618) Darn, another one I've already read (The Secret of Joy, I mean)! :) Actually, I just read that one, though, so I can participate in a discussion since it's still fresh in my mind. I used it for the photo on the cover task, but Joy is also a woman's name, so it could be used for that one as well.

Jen B (jennybee618) I'll nominate Icing On The Cake by Laura Castoro. It has a photo cover, so it could be used for the Picture Perfect task. Or, maybe if it wins the group nomination, we could bend the rules a little bit to allow "icing" to count for task 10.7? :)

I'll go along with that! :)

Oh, forgot, I'll take nominations through Friday and start the poll on Saturday and that will go through next Wednesday. I hope that will give everyone time to get the book. Let me know otherwise and I'll shorten it.

Kourtney (readthateventually) | 1215 comments Flying States!!! (has a cow on the cover so I'm using it in the challenge!)

Tara I think we should have mutiple books to choose from to read for the month. Some of the books listed I don't have and I don't want to buy anymore right now. You could take the top three and there would be more choices for everyone to read.
