C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Thanks Garrison! I must have been in denial for years as if I didn't believe that doing these things (or getting serious in planning to do these things) was beneficial to my health. Thank u for the encouragement buddy!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Does anyone else feel their book selections/ to read list is way too random? There will be books about studying the bible, some nonfiction history, then 28 Days Later comic books! lol

message 2804: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Hold my beer, CJ. I've got nonfiction pro-wrestling books, murder mysteries, fantasy stories, and celebrity memoirs in mine. Haha!

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments I read a wide variety of things, so my list always seems quite random!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Hey guys, I'm really excited about this!

Just wanted to announce that there is a new folder here on the WSS!!

It's for teachers (or wannabe teachers) to teach people how to write, make a story, make a poem, pretty much anything that could stem from the WSS.

Please check it out!

Just a funny note in case everyone wonders where the so-called word "Teachies" comes from, lol:

Look up "Stupid Idiot" by Nathan Barnatt episode 2

which is called "Hauling Boxes" 1:40-2:21

Update Note: This folder has been nixed by this moderator. But some good news is that the threads that were popular were fused into the existing categories.

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments The paperback proof of my Ferris Wheel Stories book came today! It all started in this group, so I thought I would share :)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Congratulations on the publication, CP! That's a milestone very much worth celebrating! :)

message 2811: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments Thanks, Garrison! I'm excited to be releasing physical copies. It's a new experience to hold an actual book that I've written. A food experience.

message 2812: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments Good. Not food, haha.

message 2813: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Food experiences can be good too, especially if pizza is involved! Or hot wings! Or cheeseburgers! Or ice cream! :)

message 2818: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Wow! It’s just sunk in that you’re having a book published on paper. I think that’s impressive!

message 2819: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments Thank you! It's self published still, but all of this has been an experiment to prove to myself that I can do this.

Now I just have to get myself to produce material at a more consistent rate...

message 2820: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments Yes, it is! I'm always impressed with people who self publish, so I'm happy to be among them. And thank you!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments C.P. wrote: "I've released ebooks already, this is just my first paperback :)"

Yeah I love when there are paperbacks. I have seen WAY too much stuff being released in ebooks. Not to be too critical, but it is way too easy to publish anything in that format versus getting it onto paper.

For example I have even seen so much advertisement for Christian literature and other stuff in a group I'm (not as now) involved in where there was so much ebook type stuff I felt should "Not" be in print. If there is another way it's probably better, at least by the person striving to publish it!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments On a new note, I've been going over sections of chapter 2 of M. K. 1 after already being done the plot overview of it. I hope this story will be exciting! Lots of surprises too, I think...

message 2823: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments So…I’m at a little bit of a crossroads here when it comes to my nonfiction. Many months ago, I wrote a memoir about a D&D campaign I did with my brother in 2003 where I was a bounty hunter named Regal (it went about as well as you’d imagine, haha!). Ever since then, I’ve wondered if I should do those kinds of memoirs in the future. A small little voice told me that if I’m going to do them, why not just write them as fictional stories instead of memoirs? There’ll be more opportunities for showing instead of telling and it’ll feel like a real story. But given how some of those role-plays panned out, they wouldn’t make for very good stories on their own. Under a nonfiction microscope, I can analyze what went wrong and why. That’s basically the point of these memoirs: to show how much my storytelling skills and I have changed since those days. They can either be cautionary tales or legitimate master classes. What do you guys think? Are these kinds of stories better served as fiction or nonfiction?

message 2824: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments I think it could go either way. With nonfiction, you could still write in narrative style. So that might help your showing vs telling.

That sounds really awesome Garrison. I think you should do it!

message 2827: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I think so too, CJ. :)

message 2828: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I find memoirs much more interesting than fiction. The purpose of a memoir is to give the reader a look at the author and his world, through a door opened by the author himself. For for a reader like me, whose interest is to get to know the mind of the author, autobiography and the personal essay are the natural things to read.

Not surprisingly, they’re also the most natural things for me to write. More than a little of the material in the stories I’ve written is based on things that actually happened in my life. Many of the characters are based of persons I’ve known.

A few months ago I showed an old story of mine to a girl I had known in college. One of the main characters is based on her. I asked her what she thought about the character. She replied, “She’s such a bitch!” It wasn’t at all the reply I expected. On another occasion, regarding the same story, a friend from graduate school days exclaimed that I had made an ass out of his character. I should probably be glad I don’t know what others, who have characters based on them in that story, would think if they read it.

message 2829: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments You know...maybe the memoir route is the one I should take after all. I appreciate the input, everyone! Thanks! :)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Eh, I don't know if that would be too much to do, at least in my own power. I wouldn't be able to handle being in multiple groups and being active in them. That's my opinion though.

I already run as a mod in this group and a mod in a mystery group. I would lose my mind if I was in other contest or writing groups, lol!

Okay my opinion aside, I should check if I myself still am a part of other groups and see if they are still active.

To answer your question.... one moment lol...

message 2831: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments What kind of writing group are you talking about, Al?

Posting a prompt? Writing a book and need to know if you can advertise it?

Those are the only groups I am a part of right now (and the publishing is about Christian stuff).

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments I don't think I'm in any other writing groups. Most of them died out or were more focused on promoting content than on the actual writing side of things.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I was working, got home, hung out with my buddy, and then was home and fell asleep. I'm up now about two hours later.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I'm so awake I was watching a 30 day livestream. They are currently asleep Nathan Barnatt and another Youtuber. They need support though I am not exactly a fan of where they plan to go. But Nathan has been thru a LOT recently... maybe he can use this to help him heal:

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Oh gosh, Saturday nights always turn out strange. Well not strange, but a heavy dose of haha!

It's unreal how much there is some sort of spiritual uneasiness. And it's always right before I end up going to church! This was in a way unexpected (because I normally get it from friends) so it was at least different because it was from someone else this time. Still discouraging though.

I have to be conscious and vague with my words. Just dumping on here because I don't know what else to do since I have to go to bed and am just too stressed at the moment!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments This is gonna sound a little grisly but oh well...

So I want to hear a vote (at least one, lol). I had a character named Mileena think about feasting on a guy.

So yes or no, should she follow through on that thought in a future chapter in my adaptation of Mortal Kombat, M. K.?

Garrison, Al... anyone else? More than one vote is okay too!

message 2840: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I don't see why not. Mileena should have a nice meal every so often. Haha!

She's a maneater!" lol

It just disappeared. Gone! Poof!
