C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I'm doing pretty good, Al. :)

I've been on a job for about two months now and so I'm either constantly busy with that or good stuff. I have been having trouble balancing my schedule sometimes but that's just how life is when a lot of people in your family have lost jobs so we've got to make a living somehow.

It was hard. But I am good and I am seeing amazing blessings from God, He is awesome!

The only thing you can is your best. Be calm and know that you can do it, don't be too nervous. I believe in you as well as everyone here! And that's awesome that you're graduating. Awesome job, Angie!!

Everything's going great in my world, buddy. On June 3rd, I'll become a 31-year-old man with the heart of a kid. Five days later, I'll finally have my sleep study, which means more energy for me throughout the day instead of submitting to sleep apnea. Three days after that, I'm going to see Slipknot and Marilyn Manson in concert together. June can't come soon enough for me.

It seems as though you're doing alright with your new job, so congratulations on that. I know it can be stressful at times, but if anybody can conquer the stress, it's you, buddy. Keep working hard and being an awesome person, my friend! :)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Thanks Garrison!

And I know what you are going through. Believe it or not, people think because of a scare where I was nearly suffocating one night they wonder if I should be tested for sleep apnea. I don't know if I'd get the days on a good week but I am thinking about it.

It's funny. It's more than a coincidence I think! :D

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Sleep apnea has cost me a lot of opportunities to engage myself in creative work. If I'm feeling too mentally exhausted to do anything, it'll result in a "lazy day" where nothing gets done. As someone who prides myself on a strong work ethic, I see "lazy days" as huge setbacks. This sleep study will do wonders for me, especially if they prescribe me for an oxygen mask.

Break a leg! (Or does one say that for speeches?!) Be yourself, relax and breathe without trying. Just do it naturally and you will be fine. Not sure if the underwear thing would work, and if not, remember that everyone in the audience is stark naked beneath their clothes! ;-)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments C.J., I've gone back to work too. Seems to be part of some bizarre plan I am not privvy too. I just started, but good so far, except it has meant I'm not here in GR/WSS very much. Ah well.

And I was away for three days on a yoga/meditation/breathing retreat. Oh! That included no talking, writing or on-line stuff. Very good.

Be well, everyone! :-)

Angie Pangan | 4795 comments Hey guys! So about three weeks ago, I mentioned that I was going to be speaking at my graduation ceremony and you guys were all super supportive. I just wanted to let you all know that it went well. I didn't trip or completely botch anything, so whoop whoop! (Though I did miss my cue). In case you wanted to see it, my school posted it on YouTube. I apologize if it's a bit fast; I was pretty nervous.

Here's the link: Mesa High Graduation 2016 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=877OW...)

My speech is about 36 and a half minutes in. If you want to/have time to listen to the music before that, I highly recommend it. My school's choir and orchestra are pretty fabulous. But if you don't wanna watch any of it at all, no hard feelings :)

Thanks again for all your support last month.

message 2564: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments That was an awesome speech you gave, Angie-Pie. It's one hundred percent true: being strong enough to conquer the darkness is more important than any amount of wealth or success. I've had my fair share of dark times and I can safely say I've conquered them all. Speaking of strength, you didn't look overly nervous to me in that video. You looked like the epitome of what strength is supposed to be. Congratulations, Angie! :)

Hello Angie. I enjoyed your speech! Well done, and I liked your emphasis on strength. So true! And although you were a bit fast, and I could hear your nervousness in your voice, you indeed had the strength of character and poise to speak powerfully and clearly. Well done!

And I wish you the strength you have generously wished your classmates. And two more things, gentle things. Remember to breathe and that kindness expressed is one of humanity's greatest and under respected strengths.

Yeah I was working only to live since so many people are at my house and there were so little jobs being done by my family. Also I hope to one day live on my own.

And it's fine Guy, we like whatever you have to offer in the WSS! We and I appreciate hearing from you whenever you get the chances. :)

Plus before I forget I should show you a "play" my church has done for quite a number of years. It's only during the Christmastime but I could show you it anytime. I am just thinking of that vid you posted of you on stage. That was great!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Happy Fourth of July, all who are celebrating!!!

Anyone doing anything fun? We had a parade go by our house and someone at work invited me to their house for a barbecue later in the evening.

message 2573: by Marie (new)

Marie (naturechild02) Hello everyone! I have been absent for a bit but I'm back to submit a short story this week. Maybe even a poem, who knows, we'll see.

Our 4th was pretty boring. Hung out most of the day then fireworks that night. Not even hot dogs and burgers this year. It was just a day to relax.

Everyone doing short stories this week is submitting something emotional and heartbreaking. And I'm over here like, "Hmm, time to kill a character."

message 2574: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments It's good to have you back, Marie-Pie. Digital hugs forever! I hear you loud and clear when you say you had a low-key July 4th. I didn't do much either except for watch the Independence Day-themed episode of WWE Monday Night Raw. I had no interest in watching the fireworks in downtown Port Orchard due to how loud and crazy they are. Even at home I was jumping out of my skin at the loudest pop. My kitties Oswald and Ozzy hid in my parents' bedroom the whole day. All in all, a pretty neutral day, loud bangs aside.

message 2575: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Hi Marie and welcome back!

My Fourth wasn't bad. I was invited by a coworker to go to his barbecue which was a bigger event than I thought as he had a DJ handing out prize comedy tickets. I won one of them! It's a place near the area so I wouldn't have to travel too far to see it by bus.

Then I got driven home by my dad and we stayed at my neighbors.' They had a toned-down bbq (it was inside since they heard it would rain and they were right on the ticket on that one!) and I got a s'more my brother made and we watched tv shows on DVD (Night Gallery, Hammer House of Horror). It was a pretty nice night.

Angie Pangan | 4795 comments I'm only one week into actual classes, but orientation week and college in general has already drained me :( I miss writing. I think I'm going to start a story outline, and when I have spare time, enter some of my brain storming scenes/snapshots in the weekly contests.

message 2584: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Being too drained to write is never a fun thing to go through. Hugs and hair fuzzles for an awesome writer like you, Angie.

message 2585: by Angie (new)

Angie Pangan | 4795 comments Thanks Garrison :) I just don't think college orientation weeks are geared for introverts, so I'm hoping that after I recover from that, college won't be so tiring.

message 2586: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments College in general isn't geared towards introverts because they put too much emphasis on class participation. Speaking up during class discussions is part of the grading rubric for almost every course you take. I once took a theater arts class where class participation was 30% of the total grade. I repeat: 30%. It's unfair on so many levels, but it is true unfortunately. :(

Neal Syrette | 80 comments Isn't that like complaining that Phys-ed is too physically active?

message 2588: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Not at all. The theater arts class had nothing to do with acting. It was a play analysis class. Thirty percent? Really?

message 2589: by Angie (new)

Angie Pangan | 4795 comments I honestly don't mind speaking out in class, but it's stressful when they put 100 or 200 students in one place and tell us to make friends.

message 2590: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments It is stressful indeed. I went through the same thing when I attended school at Western Washington University. It's part of the reason why I wouldn't want to go back to school for another degree.

message 2592: by Angie (new)

Angie Pangan | 4795 comments I just stood at the edges and watched the squirrels. There weren't as many back home. On the bright side, most of my classes are relatively small so I've made a few friends here and there.

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments This coming Monday morning, I’m headed to the Sea-Tac Airport for a week-long vacation to Hawaii with my aunt Ruth, my step-dad Dale, and my mom. The last time I’ve been to Hawaii was around this time in 2010. Beautiful sunshine, beautiful beaches, beautiful women, and cute cuddly chickens: that’s what Hawaii is all about. I couldn’t ask for a better way to kick back and relax. Because I’ll be busy soaking up the sunshine and petting chickens, my internet time will be limited to short bursts on the hotel computer. That means for the week I’ll be gone, I won’t compete in the corresponding contest at the WSS. But that’s next week. I still have a few more days to submit a story for this week’s contest, which I haven’t decided what I’m going to do just yet. The prompt is “Energy” and lord knows I have a lot of magical story ideas in my archives, but nothing definitive. Before I get too far off track, if you want the exact dates I’ll be gone, the vacation lasts from October 3rd to October 10th. Again, this means minimal internet contact and zero creative output, which means the WSS, Demon Axe, Dark Fantasy Warriors, and reading commitments to Marie Krepps will have to wait. But do you know what the best part about vacations is? Coming home to sleep in your own bed with your own kitty while using your own computer. I’ll be back, no doubt about it.

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments I just heard about an awesome contest to join a writer's retreat in Iceland next year. Sounds so cool, but They want references even if you aren't published. :( How are you supposed to have references when you don't have anything published? Anyway, if anyone else is interested, here's the link: http://www.aerogrammestudio.com/2016/...

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I had a dream last night where a cute blond girl was flirting with me in gym class and even kissed the back of my hand like the woman at the Slipknot concert did. We continued to laugh and talk to each other until I said something awkward (I can’t remember what it was) and drove her away. So instead of going to Legoville with the gym class girl, I went with my parents and Aunt Ruth. We all rode the Lego train together and I got off at one stop to play Final Fight on the arcade. I played as Haggar and had a hard time back suplexing one of the Mad Gear gangsters. I woke up wondering just what the hell happened. But the good news is, ever since I gave up caffeine and started going to bed earlier, I was able to wake up earlier and be in a better mood. I took two naps in the middle of the day, though.

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I saw Edward Davies do this challenge in another group, so I stole it from him and filled in the spaces with my own books. I’m not sure exactly what kinds of books are supposed to go in there, but I’m going to go ahead and assume they’re from the player’s “Read” list. So, here goes nothing!

• A: “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian” by Sherman Alexie
• B: “The Blade Itself” by Marcus Sakey
• C: “The Cleaner” by Brett Battles
• D: “The Death of WCW” by RD Reynolds
• E: “Experiment” by Cyma Rizwaan Khan
• F: “The Fault In Our Stars” by John Green
• G: “Go the Fuck to Sleep” by Adam Mansbach
• H: “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins
• I: “The Illustrated Man” by Ray Bradbury
• J: “January First” by Michael Schofield
• K: “Kick-Ass” by Mark Millar
• L: “Love Letters to the Dead” by Ava Dellaira
• M: “A Million Little Pieces” by James Frey
• N: “Nature Girl” by Carl Hiaasen
• O: “Of Dice and Men” by David M. Ewalt
• P: “The Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky
• Q: “Quiet” by Susan Cain
• R: “Robotech: The Macross Saga” by Jack McKinney
• S: “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne
• T: “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee
• U: “Undisputed” by Chris Jericho
• V: N/A
• W: “Warm Bodies” by Isaac Marion
• X: N/A
