Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Thank you Al! That has taken me out of last place with zero votes to tied for last place! LoL! Too funny.

How was the weekend?

message 1202: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Very busy. Very wet yesterday, huge rainfall. Today, baked shortcakes for the week, cabbage rolls, household chores, etc. The usual. Actually finished a blog posting!

message 1203: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Y'all must be on the east coast with us-rainy all weekend and will continue to be until Tuesday.

message 1204: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments GUY!!!!! Congrats on the Poetry competition!!!!!!!! I just saw the finalists. Hope you win!!!!!!!!

message 1205: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments THANKS KYRA! LoL.

Saira, nope, I'm on the west coast, in a temperate rainforest. The news is filled with hurricane Sandra blasting the east coast. Although a few hundred miles north of us there was a 7.7 earthquake. Just enough for sensitive people, like my wife, and animals to feel it here.

message 1206: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments We live on one of the biggest tectonic plates. I think it might be the same one that connects to California. Two weeks ago the entire coast of BC participated in an earthquake drill, and so this quake, which was on a different place, was well timed. There was serious concern of a tsunami hitting Hawaii, but fortunately all they wound up getting was a slight bump in the surge waters.

message 1207: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Yeah, that earthquake should be getting more attention right now. Sandy isn't that strong, just wetter than normal.

We had an earthquake north of Richmond, somewhere near Alexandria last year. We felt it all the way down here in Tidewater. Our dad ended up in the other lane down in North Carolina even!

message 1208: by Kyra (new)

Kyra (Nikara) | 1221 comments We have a lot of minor earthquakes out here. Most of the earthquakes I've been through weren't even hard enough to rattle the dishes, but my sister always freaks out whenever one of them occurs. Guess that's what you get for living in California, though.

message 1209: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments If you’re in a earthquake and a fire at the same time, there’s not much you can do but shake and bake.

message 1210: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Lol. That's a good one, M!

message 1211: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments M, you're showing your age. Wasn't that what the double billing was called for Earthquake and The Towering Inferno in the 70s?

message 1212: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Guy, I think it is from the seventies, but I can’t remember where I heard it. I’ve been showing my age so long, I can’t remember what it’s like not to.

message 1213: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments I understand. Of course, I flagrantly displayed my age by even knowing that in the first place.

Al, yup, the movie. Co-starring the ruggedly handsome Paul Newman.

message 1214: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I was about to make a wisecrack, when I remembered a joke about a Beethoven fanatic who heard that the composer had been buried with his unfinished works. One night, the fanatic went to the graveyard and opened the grave, only to find Beethoven erasing everything he had written. The fanatic exclaimed, “Beethoven, what are you doing?” Beethoven replied, “I’m decomposing.”

message 1215: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments M wrote: "I was about to make a wisecrack, when I remembered a joke about a Beethoven fanatic who heard that the composer had been buried with his unfinished works. One night, the fanatic went to the graveya..."

Heh, nice.

message 1216: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Well, the crack I was going to make about Newman is that he’s now ruggedly decomposing.

So, the ocean is a bit cranky this morning; someone named Sandra seems to have upset him.

message 1218: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Good one, Edward! Where is this pic from?

message 1219: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Alex, I have a dvd of one of Cary Grant's movies: An Affair to Remember. Is it any good?

I like 'philosophay'. Would be interesting to hear someone pronounce it out loud!

message 1220: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments The beach right down yonder from us ... right now.

message 1221: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Looks pretty rough. The figure with the three horn-like thing caught my attention.

message 1222: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I think that’s Neptune, with his trident (not the sugarless version).

message 1223: by Edward (new)

Edward (edwardtheresejr) | 2434 comments Yeah, it's Neptune. It's an important landmark around here.

message 1224: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I voted for you too, Guy, good luck!

message 1225: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments Sure, Alex! I'l watch it today. Upload?

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Thank you Kat!

Please upload it somehow!

message 1229: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments Oh gosh, Ajay. Are you sure you really want to kill your ears? Lol.

message 1230: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments I know I want to hear XD

message 1231: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Hello Al! Good luck with the upload. Does GR allow for audio clips?

message 1232: by Ajay (new)

Ajay (ajay_n) | 1138 comments My ears are already dead, Hanzle. Had a team meeting in the office today :) lol.

I am sure everyone here would like to hear that! But I am clueless too.

message 1233: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Is it the Alex and Hanz production of Hamlet?

message 1234: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments That is a tough question! So much to choose from. Are you serious about us getting to choose something?

message 1235: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments I'm manly. Yep.

message 1236: by Hanzleberry (new)

Hanzleberry (doughboyissweet) | 1065 comments HAHAHAHAHAHA. You're funny.

message 1237: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Okay. Does it have to be yours, or can I chose someone else's? Especially M's? Or can I ask if you'll do a string of them together?

message 1238: by Caitlan (new)

Caitlan (lionesserampant) | 2869 comments Or all of them XD haha XD

message 1239: by Guy (last edited Oct 29, 2012 09:51PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Actually, I agree, Kat. However, I particularly loved the sequence that begins here and goes for most of the next page:

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

And I love that you are willing to give these voice! I think some of the popcorn is worthy of putting on stage for a fringe festival. Maybe when I've retired from work.

message 1240: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments ??? I had entirely forgotten about these. Guy, how did you make the link go to a particular post?

message 1241: by Guy (last edited Oct 30, 2012 06:43AM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Good morning, M and Al. That whole sequence, leading to the mice going to the island and the one getting eaten by the cat, etc., is classic and so funny!

Creating the link is easy. In the message line, at the far right, is a time/date 'stamp' indicating when the post was created. Goodreads has cleverly made that the link to the post. To get the link just opposite button mouse click on the date/time, and from the menu pick 'Copy Link Location' if you are using Firefox; 'Copy shortcut' if you are using Internet Explorer; and something similar with Safari and Chrome (which off the top of my head I don't exactly remember).

So, for post 1614, the link is:
http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/2...

message 1242: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments Alex, it’s fine with me, but if your father ever reads that stuff, he’ll never let you or Hanzle speak to me again!

Thanks, Guy! Later today, I’m going to practice making links.

message 1243: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments You can change the displayed text using the 'usual' anchor HTML coding: (a href="link">Displayed Text(/a>.

So for example, here is the link to 1617.

message 1244: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Well, I could read it. Let me see if I can find enough quiet time in the next week to give it a try. Unfortunately quiet is something hard to find in my home, most of the time. I'll put together a sample some time this weekend at the earliest, most likely. How do we share audios here?

message 1245: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Excellent idea! I think I can do that with iMovie.

message 1246: by M (new)

M | 11617 comments I’ve tried using my wife’s iPad. It drives me crazy.

message 1247: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (chasmofbooks) | 2875 comments Oh, I have a Nook and I hate typing on it too.

message 1248: by Ruthie (last edited Oct 30, 2012 07:00PM) (new)

Ruthie (bluephoenix20) | 129 comments I love my Mac, although it wasn't my first choice for a laptop.. but since it's a gift, I learned to love it..

off topic, i somehow sense that this thread doesn't have a particular topic so i assume that it is safe to share anything here..
have you heard about Neil Gaiman's project? The All Hallows Read.. it was started about 2 years ago.. it is a tradition wherein people can give or exchange horror books with others, friend or stranger.. it is done to promote reading and happens only on the week of Halloween.. maybe we can do it here in the club as well.. though we can only share ebook formats.. :)
here is the link if you want to learn more: http://www.allhallowsread.com/

so.. that is all i have to share.. Guy, good luck on your contest.. having read some of your work, i'm confident you'll win.. Alex and Hanz.. hope you figure out that audio/video thing.. i'd like to hear your recordings.. :)

Happy Halloween! (it's already 31st here in the Philippines)

message 1249: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments I want a Kindle Fire. I think Nook was trying to hard at first, so I never really liked it. The ipad can be annoying at times, but it's useful when we're out. I want an alienware laptop.

message 1250: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments Ruthie, I like your idea, in principle, but I don't have anything to share! I'm an old fashioned book, kind of guy. I hope some of the others who are au courant with the modern book age will take part.

Thank you for your well wishes, but I have finished a distant last, not even in the race. LoL!

I have an iPad which I find useful, but not a panacea. It does some stuff that drives me crazy, but on balance, it is a good tool for certain functions - writing NOT being one of them.
