C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Looks good here. Are u on pc or the app? I am on the app at the moment.

message 2852: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I'm using a PC.

message 2853: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I'm on PC now. I see your point Garrison.

Maybe this is a glitch (hopefully)?

message 2854: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments A glitch seems like the most likely scenario.

message 2855: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Well...the glitch seems to be solved as of now. I'm 22% finished with reading "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins. I could have easily done the math myself, but who needs a calculator when you've got Good Reads's update feature right there? Haha!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Great to hear the site caught up Garrison! :)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Sorry I didn't notice.

Hi Deepak!

message 2858: by Deepak (new)

Deepak (noobhemingway) | 284 comments Hey all! I thought I had notifications set up properly, with emails and whatnot. Well, turns out I derped. I'm doing alright guys. To use Garrison's own reference, "I'm mostly okay" haha. Moved back to India a few weeks back and I've been settling back in. Catching up on a lot of stuff. :)

message 2859: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Deepak, having wonky notifications is something I've got going on too. Good Reads didn't even inform me of some of the new posts, such as the ones in TPBM and Word Association. I had to find those out myself. Good Reads is definitely glitchy as of late.

message 2860: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I'm having a lot of trouble putting up my story! What does Goodreads limit how long you make a comment now? I just don't get this.

message 2861: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Good Reads really needs to get their act together. This is disgusting.

message 2862: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments It's always limited space in comments. Did they change the length?

message 2863: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I was only posting part of the story. Every time I edited my already short post it kept saying that the comment was not able to post and that I was still in the middle of editing.

I don't know...

message 2864: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Just tried it again.

The post vanishes then it says

"There was a problem saving your comment"

message 2865: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments Weird.

But this was a lot smaller than my past posts. I was about 1600 words. I already separated it into two parts. I guess it must be a glitch like you said. I can't help though being frustrated about it a little.

message 2867: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments I don't blame you for being upset, CJ. Technology can be absolutely ridiculous sometimes.

message 2868: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (last edited Jul 22, 2021 08:51PM) (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Not just that Garrison. I also hinted about the strange things happening where I live briefly on one of my comments this past thread. That has been a problem since I had a comment on here just disappear like it was a person in the rapture, lol.

message 2869: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (last edited Jul 22, 2021 08:51PM) (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Update: I emailed them and surprisingly they responded pretty quickly about the strange issue.

They asked if I had screen captures right after it happened. Um... no. I told them I was on the computer. How can I screen capture? I don't think I can, lol!

message 2870: by C.P., Windrunner (new)

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 661 comments I screen capture using the methods Al mentioned, but I don't think to do it for all of these types of things.

message 2871: by Deepak (new)

Deepak (noobhemingway) | 284 comments Most OSes have inbuilt screenshot tools. Windows is moving to a new tool called Snip and Sketch but Snipping Tool is still available. Some computers, laptops especially, have keys that automatically save screenshots to the Pictures folder. And OneDrive, Microsoft's Cloud Service can also save screenshots automatically if you set it up.

But the problem isn't that there are ways to be able to do screenshots, the problem is that they were asking for it. Unless there were any error codes, a screencap probably wouldn't give them any new info other than confirming that the issue exists.

I think the site hasn't really changed or incorporated new ideas from the internet, which could be why it's so buggy.

message 2872: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Yeah true Deepak. It seems a lot of sites run into problems from stuff that is either outdated on the site or something else. I hope that was the problem anyway.

message 2873: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments I'm finishing up my story (from purely notes and loose ideas) and playing games on here.

I'm multi-tasking. And really bad at it, lol!

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Hey, everyone. Starting tonight, I’m going to take a two-week vacation from social media. This includes Good Reads, Deviant Art, Face Book, Twitter, and You Tube. I’m hoping this will help recalibrate me after spending so much time doom-scrolling and consuming horrible news. If it’s affecting my mental health in the way I think it is, then two weeks away will be sufficient. When I eventually return, I’m probably going to have an ass-ton of notifications on all of my sites. I won’t be able to answer them all if that’s the case. Thanks for understanding and I’ll see you again on July 18th. Until then, take care, everyone.

Jan (auntyjan) | 199 comments Hello. I’m back. Probably one of you will remember me. Hi M.

message 2877: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments Hi folks, I've a question and I wondered if anybody had any information that would help. When I open my goodreads app, the first thing I see is the reading updates for our Garrison, and Ryan (Past moderator and longtime member) Now, it's lovely to see what they're reading, don't get me wrong, but I don't know why goodreads singles Garrison & Ryan out and it feels a bit like I'm stalking them! Is it because we're GR friends? What really worries me is that, is GRs telling other people every time I log a book, because that must be really boring for everybody else to keep seeing all my progress updates - if you've been getting those I apologise! Anyway, I just wondered, have I selected an option or not selected an option that's causing this? If anyone knows and can let me know what I'm missing, I'd be grateful?

message 2878: by Guy (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments I am not familiar with this, Nicky. Good luck getting to the bottom of it.

message 2879: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments Thanks Guy, I thought I'd sorted it out when I went on my laptop it seems to have options of what you can view, but when I went on my phone it was just the same :(

message 2880: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) Does the website itself look normal? I don't actually have the Goodreads app so I can't compare.

message 2881: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments Thanks Victor, the app on my phone is much more difficult to find your way around. It's layout is totally different to the website. The central panel on the website is the main page when I open the app and none of the side boxes are showing, with menus etc. I was only worried incase other people were having to get an update on my reading progress every day because I felt that was more info than anyone really needed! :)

message 2882: by Guy (last edited Sep 08, 2022 05:48PM) (new)

Guy (egajd) | 11249 comments The app is mostly dysfunctional, in my experience. Especially for viewing long threads like those that we have in Weekly Short Stories.

message 2883: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments Yes, it's not very easy to navigate

message 2884: by Jenn (new)

Jenn (ace-geek) That's why I deleted the app, but I blamed it on me being used to the website.

message 2885: by Doug (new)

Doug | 89 comments Nicky wrote: "Yes, it's not very easy to navigate"

It shows what you have selected as your favorites. if you don't like the other contributions much, just unselect and try other topics.

message 2886: by Nicky (new)

Nicky (soundgirl) | 1388 comments It's just showing me Garrison's reading progress and Ryan's, I'm pretty sure I haven't selected that at least not intentionally :) but they are on my friends list. I've tried looking for any weird settings but I don't seem to have anything set. It's all a bit of a mystery. But what I'm really most bothered about is incase my reading progress keeps popping up on other peoples!

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Wow I definitely have not been on this site in a long time. I had no idea they completely trashed the "Creative Writing" feature until now. Would have helped me if I had known. Now I have about twelve or so stories written there, now lost forever. Oh well can't do anything about that besides rewrite stories I only put in that spot.

message 2888: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments C.J., that is maddening to hear about. Nobody's work should be completely erased like that and shame on Good Reads for not giving you a heads up. :(

I had the luck of knowing someone from another group warn me in advance. I'm thinking of maybe making a wordpress or something similar for my writing.

That sounds like that would be great for you Victor! I have seen at least one wordpress or other blog where they showcase their works and I think it is a pretty easy way to get them noticed.

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Hey there, everyone! I thought the admins would like to know that the poll for last week's poetry contest has been double-posted and the second one has only one vote (from me). I thought that was the original poll at first, so I hope future voters won't get confused. Thanks in advance for taking care of it!

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Hi y'all. It's been a while. I just recently came back to Goodreads and it's taking me a while to get back into things. How have y'all been?

(For those who may have missed my last post, I changed my name and was Saira, if you remember me at all...)

message 2893: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Hi there, Kymela! It's nice to have you back! I hope things are going okay on your end. Things are pretty slow on my end, but I'm still chugging along regardless.

message 2894: by Kymela (new)

Kymela (kymelatejasi) | 674 comments Thank you. I'm good! Better than the past several years while I was gone.

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Was anyone else frustrated at the shut down? I couldn't get on here for about two days!

message 2898: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Yeah, I don't know why that happened, but it was frustrating for sure, just like when any other website doesn't work. I do have a short fuse when it comes to malfunctioning technology.

message 2899: by C. J., Cool yet firm like ice (last edited Feb 08, 2024 01:31PM) (new)

C. J. Scurria (goodreadscomcj_scurria) | 4483 comments Also hi Kymela (Saira)! I don't remember if I said hi or if anyone else said hi but I miss a lot of people who used to post on here, lol!

I hope one day it will feel kinda like the "old-school" WSS group again where everyone is chatting and the threads and polls are alive with multiple interactions!

message 2900: by Garrison (new)

Garrison Kelly (cybador) | 10136 comments Well...I told a few people on Face Book about this, but this is the first time you guys are hearing about it. I'm currently taking a new antipsychotic called Latuda, which means I had to go off of one I was already taking called Risperidone. After some weening and tapering off, I'm no longer taking Risperidone, but now I feel like hell. I'm sweaty, too hot, restless, anxious, god knows what else. I'm also unable to concentrate on creative writing. I just hope my symptoms settle down in a few days. I hate the way they feel...
