Another one would be from LOTR when the army of elves shows up just as all hope seems to be lost, every single one with not a hair out of place and looking so clean while Aragorn and everyone else seemed to be having a tough time with the heat and dust of the battle scene
From Gone with The Wind I would say the one where Scarlett is helped into her best gown for Ashley's party
And from wanted, it's al the scenes with the bullet coming out the front of the forehead and their eyes pop out in surprise and the screen freezes and goes slow and then we get to see the backtrace of the bullet, definitely something!
From Home Alone, the usual MCulkin doing the hands on both cheeks ohmygod aftershave sting or something, i didn't know what he was doing back when i saw the movie as a kid, but he seemed to be having fun

i loved the scene in NOW,VOYAGER when all the people on the ship are waiting for bette davis to get off the ship , and someone says"wait, there she is!" and the camera does that pan up shot starting at her beautiful shoes. love mrs.bette

maybe it was just me , but I always wanted her to end up with dr.jackwith (i think that is how you spell it). i liked mr. jerimiah durrants, ("but to ny friends, i am jerry"), but there was always the fact that he was married that got in the way

in the end, it's an interesting solution that she chooses. she knows her psyche is damaged by her mother and she isn't the right kind of girl for "mr right" - the wealthy man that offers his hand in marriage, so instead she chooses to resurrect a young girl (thereby resurrecting herself) that is the daughter of a man she loves but can't have. in the final scenes he longs to touch her and kiss her but she refuses. to love this girl and raise her is the choice she makes, refusing the typical girl gets her guy in the end ending. that's what makes the film so special in my eyes - for a film made before alternative relationships were readily explored on the big screen, now, voyager is one of the first to show that women don't need men in their lives (in their bed in this case) to find happiness.
yeah, bette was groundbreaking that way.she was one of the first leading ladies who wasn't classically beautiful.

Some of my favorites: exploding head in Scanners, Charlotte Gainsboug cutting herself in Antichrist, the eye being sliced in Un Chien Andalou, Debbie Harry S&M and the gun in Videodrome, Kathy Bates hitting James Caan’s foot in Misery, Banana Boat Song in Beetlejuice, the bus scene in Almost Famous, the end of Adaptation -Happy Together song-, when the plant says “feed me Seymour” in Little Shop of Horrors…

i've never thought to read it, but i love this film and have seen it countless times. i think i'll look for it.

Dorothy Malone doing a frantic rumba while her father is dieing of a heart attack. definitely a memorable scene.
Phillip wrote: "Tom wrote: "I can recommend the novel NOW, VOYAGER by Olive Higgins Prouty. It is available in paperback and well worth a read. Very interesting to see how the movie and the novel compare. The f..."
i have never read the book either. i didn't even know that it was abook, but now, i will definitely look for it.

THE BIG LEBOWSKI -- committing the ashes to the sea, which thereupon blow back into their faces; the bowling ball to the solar plexus; peeing on the rug.
THE THIRD MAN -- "the cuckoo clock!" in the fantastically huge ferris wheel.
TORN CURTAIN -- the horrifically long, drawn-out scene where the Russian is killed, over and over again
THE GRADUATE -- "Mrs. Robinson, you're trying to seduce me!" (several beats) "Aren't you?"
DAS BOOT -- the bolts exploding off the walls of the sub
IT'S A GIFT -- too many great scenes to count! but I'll cite the touching scene toward the end where W. C. Fields' character, Harold Bissonette, is totally down and out and talking tenderly to his dog
THE TIN DRUM -- pulling the eels out of the dead horse's head
NOTORIOUS -- the incredibly sexy scene on the outside balcony where Ingrid Bergman is tipsy from champagne
GOODFELLAS -- "Do you think I'm funny? Do I make you LAUGH?"
...
okay hers's another one
GODFATHER: when the director pulls the horses's head out of the foot of his bed and the sloe pull away camera shot. ahh, amazing.

And yes, the scene with Newman killing the KGB agent was the most exhausting violent scene I have ever experienced in filmdom. It truly is a classic.

You were right, it was the opening scene!!

and the Count runs away! I laugh everytime even though I know its coming.
1995's SENSE AND SENSIBLITY with Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet. The ballroom scene when Willoughby the rogue crushes Marianne and she goes running after him into the next room. The look Willoughby's new love gives Marianne is very cutting, very poisionious and so very female. The actress made that scene so that you could feel Marianne's defeat and dispair.
In LOTR: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING Frodo: "I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought."
I love this scene because Gandalf sums up not just the movie but how life works.
HEARTBREAK RIDGE with Clint Eastwood. The whole movie is quotable just ask my hubby, but I love this scene with clueless Lt. and Eastwood as Gunny Highway showing the troops how its done.
Lieutenant M.R. Ring: Morning, men! I thought I'd lead you through this exercise. Can't find Gunny Highway, though...
[Highway appears behind a makeshift building at the training site and sprays live bullet fire:]
Lieutenant M.R. Ring: [dives for cover:] Jesus Christ, what was that?
Lance Corporal Fragatti: Sir! That is the AK-47 Assault Rifle!
Profile: The preferred weapon of our enemy...
Collins: And it makes a distinctive sound when fired at us, Sir!
Lieutenant M.R. Ring: [still dazed:] Yeah... I guess it does!
i love the scene in GOODFELLAS when henry hill is in the courtroom at the end of the movie, and he climbs out of the witness stand and starts talking directly to the camera. the whole"we had it all for the taking, i love it!

Randal: "feels good, doesn't?"
Lady: "What feels good?"
Randal: Being right. There's nothing more exhilarating than pointing out the shortcomings of others' now is there?"

AMAZING!! I just sat there jaw dropped, amazzing graphics and effects and color
it was really amazing...

In no particular order:
LET THE RIGHT ONE IN - the pool scene
BEAUTY & THE BEAST - the ballroom dance
SMOKIN' ACES - the ending
RESERVOIR DOGS - there's a few, but I'd have to say the ending of this one as well
AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON - the nazi werewolf dream
DONNIE DARKO - Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?
LADYHAWKE - when they see each other transform
ALMOST FAMOUS - when they sing on the bus
JAWS - We're gonna need a bigger boat
LEON: THE PROFESSIONAL - pick one, really. one of my favorite movies of all time

...This has probably already been mentioned though.
Johnny Depp putting that hat on in SECRET WINDOW.
The final scene in BRAVEHEART.
Any Jared Leto scene in URBAN LEGEND.
Tom Cruise dancing with the corpse in INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE.
When Michelle Pfiefer tells the class what happened to Emilio in DANGEROUS MINDS.
Stuart Townsend playing the violin on the beach in QUEEN OF THE DAMNED.
Laurence Olivier proposing in REBECCA.
Robert Downey Jr crawling on the floor in SHERLOCK HOLMES.

Sunset Boulevard "I'm waiting to see Mr. Demille"
The Ending of HUD
The Ending of Streetcar Named Desire with Stanley screaming "Stella"
The failure to communicate scene in Cool Hand Luke

The finale of NIGHTS OF CABIRIA
Some kids have a vision of the Virgin in LA DOLCE VITA

The finale of NIGHTS OF CABIRIA
Some kids have a vision of the Virgin in LA DOLCE VITA"
That was something else in Nights Of Cambria.
That made me think of the End sequence in Magnolia that no one saw coming.
Also several scenes in Crash, the Paul Haggis film.

Other fave scenes:
It's A Wonderful Life - The last 10 minutes
Sideways - "Did you drink and dial?"
Blues Brothers, when the government Cook County tax office clerk comes back to lunch and John Belushi pays the tax.
Drug Store Cowboy - The ironic ending

One of my favorites is the dance scene in Picnic. Very memorable. And sexy! Did you know that William Holden was really drunk when he danced through that scene? It was written into his contract.

Two memorable scenes for me are from Jaws. The first is of the girl swimming at the beginning of the movie, and the second is of the three guys sitting at the table on the boat comparing scars and singing "Show Me the Way to Go Home."
Jim, you're right on, except for The Blues Brothers.

Others I like...
THE LETTER -- it's a quiet night in the jungle, and then...BANG! BANG! BANG! as a man falls down the porch steps and Bette Davis follows right behind him, emptying a handgun into him.
THE THIRD MAN -- the ending where Alida Valli walks right past Joseph Cotten instead of stopping to talk to him.
THRONE OF BLOOD -- 1) the early rainstorm in the forest; 2) Lady Washizu's breakdown; 3) Lord Washizu's death scene.
PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC -- Joan's execution.
CINEMA PARADISO -- the collection of kissing scenes in the end.
M -- Peter Lorre watching a young girl in the reflection of a shop window. His reaction -- a mixture of desire to have her, and revulsion at what he knows he will do to her -- is chilling.
WINGS OF DESIRE -- Bruno Ganz standing of the edge of a building, his angel wings clearly visible.
THE HAUNTING -- Julie Harris: "Whose hand was I holding!?!"
VAMPYR -- the dream sequence trip from inside to outside, seen through the eyes of the corpse sealed in a windowed coffin.
THE VANISHING -- the big reveal
...and about a zillion more!

SOYLENT GREEN - The dinner scene with EG Robinson and Charlton Heston. EGR's last film and he's at his best.
STAGE DOOR - Katherine Hepburn in "The Calla lilies are in bloom again..." scene.
WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION - Charles Laughton doing the monocle reflection scene, and any of the scenes with his wife, the nurse - lots of good scenes in this movie
SUDDENLY LAST SUMMER - Katherine Hepburn's entrance as she descends in the elevator.
ALIEN - Tom Skerritt climbing thru the air ducts looking for the Alien - the 1t time I saw this was the last time a movie scared me.
SPARTACUS - The bath scene with Laurence Olivier and Tony Curtis
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN: The Elsa Lanchester as the Bride scene at the end.
BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI - When Alec Guinness realizes what he's done.
WIZARD OF OZ - Going from B&W to color. I always wish I had been there...
