Naz (nazz) Admitting you have a problem is always the first big step forward. We always here for you, as long as you willing to share that is ;)

What problem? Sounds like perfectly normal behavior to me...

message 753: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Hmm, share my feelings or my books?

message 754: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Books are a must, feelings regarding books are preferable but not a requirement ;)

message 755: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Hi my name is Monique and I have a book-buying addiction... It really is bad though. I have a large collection I still need to read!

message 756: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Naz wrote: "Books are a must, feelings regarding books are preferable but not a requirement ;)"

Share my books? Are you mad?
[stands defensively in front of book shelves] Mine, mine all MINE!

Just kidding :) I'll share my ebooks. And the ones I don't like... There's a hardcover copy of I Am Number Four up for grabs if I hate it.

Crusader (crusaderza) | 2457 comments Mod
I'm sure you won't like "I'm number four". Hate it? Quite possible.

Glad to see someone else who won't let their books go once they are part of the collection. I'm not sharing my books with anyone. Grubby unknown fingerprints on my prestine pages... *shudders*.

message 758: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith After reading your review I figure I won't like it. But it's always fun to write snarky reviews of books I don't like, hehe.

I never give away books if I like them, unless I get a better copy. I actually wouldn't mind lending my books to people because I'd like others to enjoy them as much as I did, but I've lost a few to people who just never bothered to give them back, so I'm a lot more stingy now.

message 759: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Hi Monique and welcome to the group. I think I can safely say on the behalf of all of us, we fully understand and that although we cannot stop this curse (that we all suffer from) we would be ever so delighted in sharing these wonderful worlds with you.

Crusader, I could not agree more with you. I always land up sharing some book or the other because no one ever seems to want to buy there own but I'm always reluctant. I think I actually cried once when someone returned it damaged and swore never to lend anyone a book ever again. That didn't last long though.

Lauren, I don't think going to like I Am Number Four either. As for not sharing your books... Well that's just rude! Lol kidding, so long as you willing to give me some eBooks and audio books every now and then I shall not think of you as stingy ;)

I think we can all relate to this video

Well, at least not stealing the books part!

message 761: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Rofl thats hilarious!

message 762: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) I also refuse to lend books out if I want to hold on to them. People usually bend the living daylights out of spines, which bothers me intensely! And then I have other books that I will happily lend to people. Such as Beastly. And Shiver.

Naz (nazz) Monique wrote: "People usually bend the living daylights out of spines, which bothers me intensely! ..."

Ya that happens to me too. I cringe when I see one of my books with a broken spine.

message 765: by Naz (new)

Naz (nazz) Finished Eagle in the Sky last night, starting Interview With the Vampire tonight.

message 766: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Juggling between Splendour Falls and Matched by Allie Condie. The thrills and spills of YA love triangle books... ;)

message 767: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Is it me or are all these love stories and love triangles in YA lit a recent development? Except for those Sweethearts books, the YA lit I read in school was mostly adventure (sci fi, fantasy or otherwise) without much romance, if any.

message 768: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) We can thank Twilight for that one. The Team Edward/Jacob phenomenon clearly inspired other authors. That and the paranormal theme!

Normally I don't comment on the books I will start or have just started but this once I couldn't resist. I've just finished Pillars of the Earth and have also just picked up the second book World Without End. And tell me is there anything that is more fun than picking up a book and open it to the dedication page and see it is dedicated to .... ME. The dedication is For Barbara. Is that a good omen or what?
I once saw a dedication in a book about mummies (the archaeological ones not the scary horror ones) that was slightly better. it said: For Barbara, who else?

So did you enjoy Pillars?

I LOVED LOVED LOVED it (did I mention I LOVED it?)

message 771: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I did and I didn't. I loved the characters and how much I lived with them through the story. So much so that at one time I wanted to grab William from the pages and give him a piece of my mind. On the other hand I got tired of all the setbacks the good guys experienced. Emma already told me that that was part of the point, but still it went on a little too long for me. Also I had a bit of a problem with the ending. It felt a bit contrived and fake. If he stopped a 100 pages before the end I would probably have given it 5 stars as is I only gave it 4. But I am still looking forward to reading World without end. Even though I think my heart skipped a beat when I saw the amount of pages that book has. Like I said in the epic challenge in one month I have read 6 epic books and the last was 1076 pages. I am now reading a book with 1463 pages and World without end is over 1200 pages. And I wanted to read books with less pages. But never mind I will read that one too :) I can't wait! It's too bad we still have too wait for part three. And I can't really get a definite idea about when it's going to be released. I know he's working on the manuscript but I have heard different dates of release ranging from jan 2012 to 2014.

I hear what you are saying. But the setbacks and William etc was what made me feel so much for this book. Hatred, hope, love all in the same book :)

4 stars is still pretty good :)

I need to get my hands on World without end!

message 773: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Really enjoying Matched. Also anxious to hit the bookstore tomorrow and get mt fix!

If it was just William that would have been ok. But you also got his parents and Alfred and Waleron (did I spell that ok) and Peter. It became a bit much and every time things were looking up something negative happened. They could never enjoy the moment and that got a bit old.
I'm really curious about World without end. It is after all set 200 years later then Pillars of the earth. I'm anxious to see how he makes the connections to the past. If he makes any.

message 775: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Pillars of the Earth was such an emotional rollercoaster for me, and I didn't like that about it. It felt sort of cheap, like soap opera thrills.
It's most redeeming feature was that, despite being so long, it felt like a quick easy read. Which doesn't count for much to me.

message 776: by [deleted user] (new)

Hey everyone... I'm not reading anything at the moment, I'm in a reading slump :(

message 779: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments We could guilt Niecole into reading by sending her a book or two. =D

message 780: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Kahlan, a good idea!

message 781: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Guilt me, guilt me! I'm totally in a reading slump too, it's getting really bad, I need free books, I mean help! *Swoon*

:D

message 782: by [deleted user] (new)

Hehe thanks guys!!!! You could totally guilt me then I really wouldnt mind :)

I just havent been feeling like reading at all, I dont know whats wrong...

message 783: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith It happens. Don't feel bad about it. You'll get over it eventually and sometimes it's good to take a break anyway.

message 784: by [deleted user] (new)

I hope so...
I really want to read The Girl who played with fire... but I cant bring myself to do it.

message 785: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Niecole I see you've been reading House of Night. Hehe that killed my desire to read too. They are addictive and badly written all at the same time!

message 786: by [deleted user] (new)

I know! I've read the first 5, but I cant get stuck into the 6th one... the first 5 was in a pdf format that was written in paragraphs (small ones) that made it easy to read, the 6th one isnt written like that and its really anoying me :)...

Maybe I should try out something lite, any suggestions?

message 787: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith The Narnia books? Start with either The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe (published first) or The Magician's Nephew (chronologically first, with the creation of Narnia).

message 788: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks Lauren :)

message 789: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm reading Harbinger of the Storm: Obsidian & Blood, Book 2, the second book in a fantasy series based on Aztec mythology.

Its like when you look into your cupboard and say "Ive nothing to wear' my mum used to say that normally means you have too many clothes.

Too many choices with books is not a good thing sometimes, as you dont know what to read.

message 791: by [deleted user] (new)

Thats exactly how it feels Emma :)
I did pick up The Magician's Nephew like Lauren suggested and I've read a few pages, liking it so far... lets hope for the best :)

message 792: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I have finished the Strain By Guillermo del toro.I have been spurred on by Barbara and this year ahve decided to incorporate a few classic books into my reading schedule. I loved the Count of Monte Cristo and have now decided to read.

Anne of Green Gables

message 793: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) Emma, did you enjoy The Strain? I liked the concept but found the characters hollow.

message 794: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I did write a review Monique. Yes I did enjoy it, but there were lots of cliches. I will read the second book though Monique. It reminded me of The Passage by Justin Cronin which is by far a better book, although I found the Strain quite creepy at times.

message 795: by Monique (new)

Monique (moniqueurbanisedgeek) I will have a look!

I am rereading House of Night from book 3 as I got book 8 yesterday!

Just finished The Silent War. Now for the final installment in the Asteroid Wars series - The Aftermath.

message 797: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I'm *finally* reading Blameless by Gail Carriger. This series is one of my favourites and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys vampire/werewolf/kick-ass chicks/steampunk related books. And even if you don't, you should still read it! It's that good. =)

message 798: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments I was a little irritated with Anne of Green Gables, and gave it up as the girl can talk incessantly. I am now reading Rumors The second installment in the Luxe series.

message 799: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I'm reading 4 different books at the moment:
The Dispossessed An Ambiguous Utopia by Ursula K. Le Guin (for the Women in Science Fiction Bookclub)
Her Smoke Rose Up Forever by James Tiptree Jr. (for the same bookclub, but spread out over the year)
Hungry For You by A.M. Harte (review request from the author)
Paradise Lost by John Milton (classic read with Barbara)

message 800: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Lauren I have heard of multi tasking but that is ridiculous :-)
