What are you reading?
Lauren wrote: "I notice we have no discussion up for our book of the month. Either that or the fact that I am a natural blonde and on a lot of new medications have somehow made me miss it?? OR maybe I am the only..."Unfortunately Lauren the book lives upto its name "Beastly but in a very bad way" . One of the things that really irritated me the most was the ' teen dialogue' maybe I am a little out of touch with how teenagers speak to each other today but it just didnt ring true for me.
There are alot of good YA out there that appeal to adults, but ofcourse not all YA are created equally.
I agree there are some really great young adult novels around but I think I've just been having a bad run lately. I think I need to start reading the reviews more carefully. Usually if the reviewer loved the book but can't really string a sentence together it’s a sign of bad things to come!
I ignore those reviews completely. Also the ones that go something like:OMG, this was the best book ever!!!!!!! It was inkredibil!!!!!! OMG Brad was sooooooo hot!!!!!! Read this now, u wil luv it!!!!!!!
I think not.
lol Lauren you are a hoot! There are times when I cant really be bothered to review a book so I might just say something simple and don't go into too much detail. I am very proud to say that I have never used OMG and hot in the same sentence when reviewing a book. :-)Young Adult books are after all meant for Young Adults. Young Adult fiction are works targeting 14 to 21yr old. Just like adults though YA have different levels of intelligence and what one person may like, might not appeal to the other. I do think that some authors are seriously out of touch with teenagers and if they really want to venture into this genre they should maybe "do their homework".
Lol now let me surprise you guys! I'm enjoying Beastly :) Not a brilliant read, but so far not going to put it down!
I've just started Flyleaf by Finuala Dowling. I bought this a while ago because it's South African and I really should read more of my country's novels. But now it turns out to be about a middle-aged middle-class divorcee who got married too soon to get the chance to 'find herself' and now she's living with her best friend who is a hippy. This story is so overused.
I'm worried that there will be romance.
Reading
and
.King Rat is an urban fantasy based on the legend of the Pied Piper of Hamelin and the rat king folklore (I just found out about that, it's so gross!) but it doesn't fit into the mythology challenge :(
Just finished King Rat, which turned out to be an edgy, rapidly paced weird-fiction thriller. Good stuff.Still reading Ilium, and just started Geek Love by Katherine Dunn. Not geek as in 'nerd' - geek as in the circus performer whose act involves biting the heads off small animals. It's about a family of circus freaks. Very good so far.
I'm reading
.Liking it alot. Even though Daniel is a douche.
Personally, I love YA. Find it far more enjoyable than most adult fiction.
Have read The Lovely Bones, very powerful read. Her second book, The Almost Moon, wasn't have as good though...was quite disappointed. Maybe Sebold is a one-hit wonder??
Read the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo at the moment. Really struggling to get into it. On about pg 50 now......feel like it's going nowhere slowly... :(

Noooo!!! I didn't think so at all. I love Daniel! There is obviously something going on that we don't know about yet. SO are you a fan of the nephilim guy then. I forget his name.

I like Cam! But I always go for the bad boy. ;) The nephilim guy is Miles.

It is good so far! Well-written and an interesting concept. I'm a sucker for this type of thing, though. :)
I'm reading
.It's a really good, light adventure that plays on familiar fairytale conventions and it's pretty funny at times. I love this kind of YA - it reminds me of how I became a bookworm.
Hallo everyone, I feel like I havent been here in ages...
So besides studying, I'm also reading a bit at a time.

If any of you have ebooks that you can email, please let me know? I'd love some, so inbox me what you have please???? I'm board at work :(
I also feel like I haven't been here in weeks! I cant even remember what challenge I was busy with. I just started
last night and I want to reread something Hogwarts related.
I'm still reading Ilium and Geek Love.Geek Love makes me feel a bit nervous. There's one character who is, quite frankly, EVIL, not to mention pathologically self-obsessed. He's done some horrible things already, and I'm waiting anxiously for the worst thing, which I imagine is going to get most of the main characters killed.
Shame Lu, I hope you didn't go to work just to update points and nominations on Goodreads! Let me know if you need a hand.I'm reading:
.Really enjoying it. I started it late last night and before I knew it I was three quarters of the way through. A good start to Murakami :)
Mmmm Lauren, you've made me want to go have a look at that book now, thanks :)
I've been reading
the last few days. It's a bit out of my comfort zone with all the "high English", but I felt like a challenge. My dictionary hasn't seen this much use in its lifetime!
Naz! You dont perhaps have an ebook copy of that book?

One day...
I'm reading
and the book is good and the story is interesting, but for some or other reason I keep on falling asleep???
LOL, are you reading in bed? I tend to fall asleep when I do that even if what I'm reading is like walking into World War 3.
I fall asleep to when reading in bed, and then I tend to drop the book... when I wake up I cant remember where in the book I was, because I usually read in a very sleepy state and then I cant remember anything I've read!
Aaaah yet still we go on reading in bed, bad habbits that I love to do!
For sure!!!!
I know Lu is a big culpirate with that one!!!!
I tend to take thinner, paperback books to the bath, easier to handle :)

Lol i tend not to sleep when I start reading in bed and usually only land up stoppin at 3am.. Like last night. Today's going to be a long day at work sigh. Yup Niecole I'm reading the ebook. Do you want me to email it to you?
I'd really appreciate it Naz!!!!
Oooh I get that to, the staying awake all night thing, but sometimes I fall asleep, not because the book is boring, just because I'm soooooo tired but I refuse to stop reading

I also read in the bath... and in bed... and I am also guilty of falling asleep!Currently rereading
for the challenges.I like House of Night, even though it's cheesy and badly written.
