Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I generally read one book at a time, but lately I have been having an audio book on while driving to and from work.

message 52: by Rayni (new)

Rayni | 135 comments I like the idea of looking at a library fine as a donation, I still don't like to pay late fees though. Our fine is only 5 cents, so I shouldn't even moan about that.

Right now, I have 3 books going - 3 non-fiction though. I don't know if I'm going to make it. One is audio though, so that is helping. One has to be finished for a class next week. I've been thinking all day that I need to sit down & read it.

message 53: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (hnybee411) | 14 comments I don't know if I could even begin to guess how many books I have going right now. I have a bad habit of beginning several books at once to see which one I want to read and then I don't always get back to the others right away. It's why I hardly ever put anything on my currently reading list on here. If I had to guess I'd say I probably have 10 books in various stages of completion right now.

message 54: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Smith (kander33) Wow Kathy, how do you keep them all straight?

message 55: by Afsana (new)

Afsana (afsanaz) I would have forgotten whats happening in the earlier oes by the tine I return

message 56: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (stacieh) | 247 comments For me, keeping up with multiple books isn't any different than keeping multiple tv shows straight in my head- although it helps if I'm reading different genres. As soon as I sit down with a specific storyline everything else disappears and I'm completely absorbed. As you might imagine, that has interfered with my getting places on time... ;)

message 57: by Susan (new)

Susan (superbookfreak) | 115 comments I can read up to 5 or 6 books at a time. Right now I have five books going at once. I love to read many books because if I get board of one book, I can go to the other.

message 58: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Flanagan | 224 comments I usually only read one at a time. But sometimes I take a peek inside the cover of a book I just got, or came aross. Or sometimes I have to return a book, or worse case senario, My book doesn;t fit in my purse, or I left it somewhere and need a backup book.

Debbie The Book Vixen (goodreadscomdebbiethebookvixen) Multiple books for me is good, like someone said it's like keeping track of TV shows.

message 60: by Kelly (new)

Kelly | 53 comments I usually read about 2-4 during school. I read the required books and one or two personal books. Usually if I get really close to the end I'll focus on only that one so that I can finish it. At the moment I'm working on the challenge for this group and another group and I'm really looking forward to reading the books in the challenges and so I've already started 8 books and am actively reading three of them.

message 61: by A.K. (new)

A.K. (kthrynwtkns) I read anywhere from 1 to 10 books, depending on what I want. I usually read at least one recquiered book and then at least two or three other books.

message 62: by Edith (new)

Edith | 34 comments I don't usually read more than one at a time but I'm trying it in order to complete this challenge. Right now I'm reading In the Woods and Lust, Loathing and a Little Lip Gloss on my kindle. I'm waiting to get All Together Dead in audio book so then that will make three. I'll only listen to that on the way to and from work though.

message 63: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ I always have an audiobook going (for the last six months it's been the Outlander series) and I'm usually only reading one book though if it sucks I will put it down and pick up another hoping to get back to the first. Though I must admit, that I find it difficult to get back into a book that I've put down like that. Oh well...too many books not enough time.

message 64: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) I used to have one audio book and one other book going at the same time, but lately it seems to be three or 4. Just recently my mother moved within driving distance and so I get books from her as well as the library. Sometimes I'm reading a heavy one, and want to have something light to switch to. I also have one in my car in case I'm stuck somewhere where I have to pass some time and don't want to be bored, but I keep having to start it over because it sits there awhile.
I really like it, so I think I'll bring that one in, and take out another one.

Recently, I also decided to put one next to my computer so I won't frustrated if the computer pages are loading slow. That's also a light one or a re-read since I go back and forth.

maybe instead of having one in car you should have one in your bag that way you have it with you in the car and other times when waiting and thus it won't sit unread for long time as its on the move-what do you think?

i tend to have one in my bag and my 3 yr old knows this. There was a picture of a girl with a bag in a story book and she asked me what was in the bag and I said what do you think is in the bag?

She responded.

Money in a purse , a phone and a book!!

Little does she know that a book is not something all have in their bag!!

message 66: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa (vanessamc) Afsana LOL. Your daughter sounds adorable. The reason I put it in the car in the first place was so I wouldn't have to get a bigger purse. I like to take my planner with me as well. I prefer the paper kind to the electronic kind. But, I was already thinking it would be a good idea to do as you suggested. I guess I need to whip out my big purse and figure out how to organize it so things to get swallowed up in there.

my bags are all small just big enough to have a paperback, phone and small purse

My daughter has a moments!!

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments Since the man-purse isn't a social norm here in Ohio and the belly-bag has not made a comeback in the under 70 crowd (thank God), I keep a paperback in my back pocket more often than not.

message 69: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments Hum, I know Jim--get a small camera bag to carry your books in. After all--you are a photographer, means you need LOTS of camera bags, yes?

message 70: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Check out Levenger's for bags or backpack style ones. They have one now that looks great that holds a book and has all small pockets in front for pen, etc. I'm thinking about that one. The problem is get a pb size or hc size. Yet I know I have those book jacket types from B&N from the past and they haven't gotten much use.
I'm close to finishing one of my trade size and was out today with family was going to carry the book then decided that was what I had books on the ipod touch for. But I was lucky if I read 5 pages anyway.

Jim son of Jim (formerly PhotoJim) (jim_formerly_photojim) | 158 comments I usually do have a laptop case or camera bag with me, but the back pocket is for whatever trash romance I have. I rather enjoy whipping out a Blaze book from the back pocket of my black jeans with black t-shirt, black leather jacket, and black boots. The shaved head just completes the Harlequin reader look I'm sure.

message 72: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 84 comments I used to read more than one at a time, but I stopped doing that ... about a year ago, I guess. I find I have a better time putting all my focus on one book.

message 73: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo LOL, I'm sure it does Jim.

message 74: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 394 comments lol Jim. Hey have you read Blood Pact or any of the other Blood books by Tanya Huff? They have a vampire (Henry VIII's bastard son, Henry) and a P.I. suffering from RP as the 2 main characters. And Henry writes historical romances. A job that I just LOVE for a vamp, don't you guys?

message 75: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo Haven't tried Huff's books. this place is going to turn deadly with all these new to me author's. I see a trip to B&N for me in my near future. I would probably have better luck there then at borders.

Very deadly. I log onto the library from here and have them pull books for me all the time. It helps shorten my trips. Then I head to my book store circuit and look for others that I wasn't able to pick up.

Since I started GR I've bought 30-50 new books. Unfortunately that is just since August.

message 77: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I haven't hooked up to the library from online even though I can. I hate to say how many I bought in the last few months since I hooked up to good reads (from AOL) I know it was worst before. Now on good reads I'm trying to log the books on my bookshelve as soon as I buy them and my book listing that I keep in a notebook is alittle behind but it's easy enough to update. I'm sure not counting the hcs (which is only in the 300's) I'm close to 2,000. Lucky that isn't just months but years. Just worst in the later years.

message 78: by Karen (new)

Karen (karmolina) | 17 comments I read one book at a time and with few exceptions, if I start a book, I feel obligated to finish it. It's part of my OCD. lol

message 79: by Kellyyyylynne (new)

Kellyyyylynne I usually have two books going at one time. I am usually listening to one on the IPod and then reading one. I have three right now but only because one is not very interesting and can't bring myself to pick it back up yet. But I will and soon!

message 80: by Jen (new)

Jen | 287 comments I didn't really think I was in this category (usually I read one book through at a time) but currently I'm half way through two books. I have one that I pick up when I have a few spare moments at work, and another audio book that I listen to only when commuting to and from work. So apparently, I am doing 4 books at once!

message 81: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenvwrites) | 122 comments Sheila wrote: "Are you one of those readers that reads more than one book at a time? If so how many do you usually have going at once?

I usually only read one so I don't lose interest and my place. lol "

i have a book for at home and one to read while I am out and if I have to wait for appointments.

Kathy (hnybee411) | 14 comments Kelly A wrote: "Wow Kathy, how do you keep them all straight?"

Nothing like replying two weeks later to a question, huh? Anyway, it's not that hard for me to keep track. If it's been a long time since I picked the book up I might reread the previous few pages or the whole chapter to remember where I'm at, but it's usually not necessary. I have one of those brains that remembers and retains random information. Not anything I really seem to want to remember, just random factoids that have me going: When did I hear that?
I'm definitely a mood reader, though and have to have something that matches my mood. Short books I tend to read through in one sitting but bigger books (like epic fantasy or massive historical fiction) usually end up being the ones I read parts of and come back to.

message 83: by Haley (new)

Haley I usually only read one book at a time. But I realized that if I want to get 144 books read by the end of this year im probably going to have to step it up a notch. I currently have 3 books on the go. Another will be added on March 1st due to school. Luckily for me though I dont get them confused.

:)

message 84: by Rayni (new)

Rayni | 135 comments I read my reply from 1/20 where I only had 3 books going, 1 audio. I now have EIGHT books going. This from someone who usually only reads 1 book at a time. The audio is still there, but the computer operating system got changed & I haven't figured out how to fix it. Before I get any help there, this is my son's computer & another son is a computer tech, so, we'll get it, it's just like the shoemaker's children running around barefoot. Not one of those 8 books are fiction though, so I guess that's the way I can do it. Three of them are anthologies, one is a cookbook and 2 are memoirs.

message 85: by Karen (new)

Karen (karenvwrites) | 122 comments if its a book it counts

message 86: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie I ususally have 1 book I'm reading and 2 audios 1 at home and 1 at work But they have to all be different genres.Right now I'm listening to The Age of Innocence at home,Catching Fire at work, and reading Saving CeeCee Honeycutt.
So one classic ,one YA fantasy and one southern fiction.

message 87: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments Susie, I heard that Saving Ceecee Honeycutt: A Novel is awesome.

message 88: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie It is if you liked The Help you'll like CeeCee.

message 89: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I keep reading good reviews on both the Help and CeeCee Maybe I should put them on my reserve list at the library.

message 90: by MissSusie (new)

MissSusie They are both fantastic!!I just finished CeeCee last night and whole heartedly recommend it!!

message 91: by Donnajo (new)

Donnajo I Finally finished both the books I was reading. So my count for the month just went up to 13 and for the year 30. Now off to the beach read.

message 92: by ~Sara~ (new)

~Sara~ | 171 comments On average I have 5 books going at once but I rarely read more then 1 romance novel at a time. I usually read them all at once pausing only for food and bathroom breaks. Same for plays. Everything else has to share my attention.

message 93: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments I only read one book at a time. I take the bus, becasue I am saving for my first house and I just can't carry any more stuff then I do now. Reading more then one book at a time would be backbreaking. LOL

message 94: by Tammy (new)

Tammy (crystalrose) | 21 comments I only read one at a time. I tried reading two at a time a few times but it just got too confusing. I kept mixing characters up. I like to immerse myself in one story at a time.

message 95: by Colleen (new)

Colleen (colleenct1) | 87 comments Tammy I am the same way, I can only read one book at a time.

message 96: by Jackie (new)

Jackie Lane (jaxlane) | 126 comments I can read one book and listen to another on audio, but they have to be very different. I had a bunch of books going in February and only finished a few. I won't do that again.

message 97: by Ivy (new)

Ivy (luvbug) I usually only read one book at a time but am currently reading one book and listening to another while doing housework or driving in the car.

message 98: by Susan (NY) (new)

Susan (NY) I'm up to 20 so far. I only read one at a time also it gets too confusing. Like Tammy, I get the characters mixed up.

message 99: by Toni (new)

Toni | 50 comments I read 2-3 fiction books at a time; however, I will only read 1 if it keeps my attention (example for me was The Glass Castle. I stopped everything to read that book in a day! I am reading !Half Broke Horses now and started yesterday and hope to finish tonight. My other 2 fiction books are just sitting there. I try to read a chapter here and there in those. I also read parts of non-fiction self help type books daily.

I am only up to 18 books for this challenge. I was doing good in January but got sidetracked and started reading self help books and no fiction hardly. I am back into my fiction and hope to catch up.

message 100: by McG (new)

McG | 13 comments I sometimes am monogomous to my books and only read one at a time. However, sometimes my mood changes rapidly and I go back and forth. It's rarely more than three at a time though.
