Tony duncan I would love to discuss this book. Lewis' Christianity is something more nuanced and valuable than much of what passes for christian thinking in popular culture. I plan to write a book called "The other side of Screwtape" about the angel writing to a superior with the exact same events being described

Karen I enjoyed this book so much when I read it long ago and have passed it on to my kids who liked it just as much.

Laura Clever idea Tony!
Have you read much of Lewis's other Christian writings? His ideas have many layers - like an onion :-) - and I've really enjoyed them!

Peachy Good luck with your parallel story. It sounds like a fun premise to try.

Ashley This book is an absolute gem. When I finally picked this piece up to read I was already particularly familiar with C.S. Lewis' work. Narnia was surprisingly enjoyable as a fantasy series, and actually the only series I've ever gone back to re-read. His less fantastical novels are actually my favorites though; The Great Divorce, Mere Christianity, and The Problem of Pain are ALL worth a serious "quicklike get-to-it now" reading attitude (besides they are all only like 200 pg anyway... c'mon!). When facing this dichotomous fork one initially encounters when choosing what to to read of Lewis' work, forget about it I say! You really can't go wrong. :-) Screwtapes just happens to be the most unique personally, as it seems that this creation is approaching the pinnacle of his work, in so far as he essentially takes the best of both worlds, pops it in the ole brain microwave, and ta dah!... You open the door and slide out your delicious, warm, and gooey literary treat.

Look up The Valiant Papers by Calvin Miller :)

Amber This book was really good. Even if you aren't a diehard Christian this is still an amazing read that many people of different faiths can enjoy, even agree with some parts. This book deals with humanity and the trials/tribulations we deal with, with some interesting insights and real though provoking stuff. If any reader thinks that Lewis only writes Christian fiction or only knows him for Narnia they need to pick up this novel and think again.

Sherri Moorer Our Sunday School class did an in-depth study of this book. It took us a little over a year, but I have to say we learned a lot. It's a great read. Very insightful and I love the change of perspective. You "see" so much from the other side!
