Lora | 1 comments Hi! I am new to Goodreads. Love Paranormal Romance. I have read all of the Sookie Stackhouse, Twilight series, and Sunny's Mona Lisa series, and enjoyed them all. I just bought Sepulchre by Kate Mosse and am looking forward to reading it. Also, interested in reading Sunny' Lucinda series.

Oh, I loved Dragon Prince! Political intrigue! Although, I read it some years ago, I wonder what I would think of it if I reread it...

If you want to get this whole series, all 7 books are available on Paperbackswap.com right now. You can save alot money getting them on there.

Where did you get this so early?

Kelly Oakes (kellymoakes) | 111 comments Currently reading Born of Fire Born of Fire (The League, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon .
Born of Night was really good.
If you liked SK other books, you'll love these even though they are somewhat sci-fi. They remind me of the Christine Feehan "Game" series.
Good Stuff.
Also Re-reading Highland Series by Karen Marie Moning and the In Death Series by JD Robb.

Well, she's playing detective Merry now, trying to solve the deaths of some faeries. But so far most of the book has been spent with her men telling her she needs to stay out of harm's way which she then argues that she can't do her job if she does that and so on and so forth. Really, I keep hoping LKH will get a new editor, someone that will make her cut down on all the repetitive scenes in her books, but alas, this seems to not be the case. I'm so frustrated but I love the characters so I'll read her books until she stops writing.

i haven't read this book yet, but that is how I felt about the Merry series--her extensive explainations...over explaining wore on my nerves.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments Cherra wrote: "i haven't read this book yet, but that is how I felt about the Merry series--her extensive explainations...over explaining wore on my nerves."

Oh yeah, same here. And the Anita Blake series is no better, honestly it's only been getting worse. And the funny thing is Skin Trade had a lot less sex than any of the other books and I found that without the crazy sexcapades LKH's weaknesses in her writing stood out all the more.

I remember one part when Anita was thinking about something and explaining it to the reader and then a character asked her a question and she explained the same thing to the character. This is just sloppy writing.

message 4462: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I feel the same way much of the time. Love most of the characters, desperately wish an editor would come along and streamline things more.

I didn't think the Merry books suffered from it as much, but that may only be because I prefer Merry to Anita as a lead.

LKH has a lot of writing quirks that unfortunately detract from the storytelling. I think her success means those quirks are here to stay though--no incentive to edit it differently since she sells so well as it is.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments Michelle M. wrote: "I didn't think the Merry books suffered from it as much, but that may only be because I prefer Merry to Anita as a lead."

I definitely agree, Merry isn't as annoyingly stubborn and her books aren't filled with the same repetitive dialogue and scenes. But they're still not as good as they could be.

I'm wondering if Anita's books are suffering so much because the series has gone on so long.

What's hilarious is I read somewhere that LKH enjoys writing Anita's books more and finds it hard to write Merry's. Yeah, it does make it harder to write when you're not copy/pasting from your previous books. ; )

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) I agree--her success means that her style will likely remain unchanged. I haven't read the Anita Blake series and I am not sure I will. I did read the Merry series and was not that impressed with it. I just kept reading because I figured it would get better and I did want to see what happened--unfortunately, I felt the series was kind of a waste. Of course in keeping with my need to finish what I start, I will read Divine Misdemeanors.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Ok, my books are starting to run together b/c the names are the same...although these character names are not common in the "real" world, they are apparently very common in the paranormal world.

Dangerous Games--Riley Kincaid

Branded by Fire--Riley--male and Mercy--female

Now I am reading Moon Called and the main character's name is Mercy...Good Lord!

Alycia I am reading Soulless (The Parasol Protectorate #1) by Gail Carriger as well! I just started it today. I'm not very far into this book yet, but I like it so far. This book has so many creative ideas and reviews here and else where have all been good. I am also currently reading Nightfall (The Vampire Diaries The Return, #1) by L.J. Smith

Stick with it! Once you get past 120 pages the story is amazing. My first attempt I probably made it 60 pages into it and put it down saying that it was the worst book ever. But reviews here and else where stated once you get to the caves it it wonderful. The beginning is just so slow, I guess the story is being set up for you and that is why. My second attempt I read it all the way through and really liked it. It is one that I definitely want to read again. And if there are sequels written I will definitely read them. Hope this helps.

I have never read her Vampire Chronicles--though I hear they ARE very good. I think she wanted to step out of her vampire box and go with something totally different--she succeeded. This book wasn't just about bondage and s&m games, it was about LIVING this as a total lifestyle where the submissive is always bound and being degraded--always.

I think her Vampire Chronicles are totally different. She also wrote 2 other bondage books under a different pseudonym--Anne Rampling. Of course since she has embraced catholicism again, she is out of both the vampire and bondage genres and into writing a christian series about the life of Christ. She is a very interesting lady.

Amanda, I have read all of the Vampire Chronicles & Mayfair Witches series, plus The Mummy. I find people really hate or really love her books. There's really no in between. My one complaint is that she rambles. There is a scene in Interview with the Vampire were she goes on and on describing a dark room. The Mummy is my fav (which most people tend to hate) and hated Memnoch the Devil.

Nita (gillnit) I just finished up Queen of Song and Souls (Tairen Soul Series, Book #4) by C.L. Wilson . This is the fourth book in the Tairen Soul series. I consider it fantasy romance rather than paranormal romance. Hi highly recommend this series.
