What are you reading right now?

I really enjoyed it, but do have one gripe. Namely that everything seemed to come a little too easily for the good guys. For me, that cheapened the experience, and made the book fall just a little short of greatness. Nevertheless, a really fun journey, and I am undisputedly richer for having made the trip. Definitely recommended.
Also, I finished The Gay Revolution by Lillian Faderman on Audible, and I am still listening to Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey.
I am starting Magicians Impossible by Brad Abraham.

I'm so glad you enjoyed An Unkindness of Magicians. It's a really underappreciated book IMO. I remember hesitating between a 4 and 5 star and eventually giving the full 5 as I had never read any UF anything like it, and a standalone, and that's what made it so enjoyable for me, I did have a couple of quibbles but I ignored them in favor of the storytelling which is something I rarely do now as I become more critical of my reading materials.
How was The Gay Revolution? Is it just US centric? What about Kushiel’s Dart? That one is not on my radar due to the subject matter, but it's still interesting to know what you think of it.
Let me know how you get on with Magicians Impossible as my library has that one and it always seems to be available when I come across it!

The Gay Revolution was excellent! It is purely US-centric, covering roughly from the end of WWII through the present. But if you ever wondered how we got to our current state of freedom and relative enlightenment, and what the folks that got us here had to suffer through to accomplish that, then this is the book for you. I remember seeing elsewhere in this a forum a post asking why there isn’t more urban fantasy with lesbian protagonists? That we can openly ask that question is something we take for granted, but a lot of people had to work to get us to that point and The Gay Revolution tells their stories.
The Kushiel’s Legacy series is fantastic, at least the first 5 books, which is as far as I’ve gotten. (There are 3 individual trilogies, so 9 books altogether.) What happened is that I got as far as I got, then lost steam, as often happens. Now I want to finish them, so I am listening to the series until I get up to book 6, and then will continue reading.
They are amazing. Imagine the baroque magnificence of Alexander Dumas, with all the Kings and Queens and intrigue and action, but set in an alternative France steeped in a religion where the only commandment is ‘Love as Thou Wilt’, and where rape is unthinkable because it is the ultimate heresy. The world building here is utterly amazing, as are the characters, writing, and storytelling. I cannot recommend this series strongly enough. Truly unique and magnificent.

I am starting A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. This is my first book by this author. Based upon all I’ve heard, I have high hopes.

I finished listening to Kushiel’s Dart by Jacqueline Carey and loved it. Great book with a great reading.
I have started listening to The Amazon: Lives & Legends of Warrior Women Across the Ancient World by Adrienne Mayor. Liking it so far. Scholarly and entertaining all at once.

I love her Phoenix & Mercury Pack Series so every time she releases something, I gobble it up.
I'm listening on audible but its slow going cause of the the kiddos

Lately I've been very disappointed with the books I choose from the Most Read This Week by genre lists.

DNF

Now I'm looking for something interesting to read next.

Now I'm halfway through

I am still listening to Amazons by Adrienne Mayor, a scholarly book about both historical Amazons and the real life ones from Scythia. As this is a excitingly informative, but a little dry, I have also begun listening to The Last Amazon by Steven Pressfield, a wonderful and thrilling mixture of myth and historical fiction that I read in print way back when it first came out.

I also finsihed Tainted Waters A book outside my wheelhouse but was fabulous
Now I'm reading the sequel to Tainted Waters: Feral

I absolutely love this series! I still need to read book 4, but don’t want the series to be over for me yet.
