I really liked this series. I haven't read any of the author's other books, but I thought this second book was great. Are you just not into?

I'm struggling with this one too Claudia. I've left it too and we'll see...

Amoreena, I don't know what happened to me with this book. I really like her Elder Races series and enjoyed

Yes, Treena. I like this author´s books, but I’ve decided to move to another series. Maybe some day I’ll think about this one again.

@Claudia: always great to see someone reading Dresden... it was one of my earliest UF series reads... #5 introduced the Denarians... they show up every 5 books like clockwork... 5/10/15 and eventually 20...
I haven't read/listened to much UF/PnR this month:

Most of my reading has been in a variety of other genres:

I am always looking for recommendations. I will check out your lists. Thanks!

So I'm currently reading Dune, though I haven't had the chance to read in the last few days since returning to work after Hurricane Harvey!
The book is honestly fascinating, though a bit long winded in some parts and overly indulgent in details that I have felt could be better summarized. However, Herbert has done a fantastic job of making such sections worthy of reading. I will admit that I had seen the movie first (I'm only 32 and my parents introduced it to me in my youth), but I have found they did a really good job condensing such a massive read into a movie.
Now, that being said, I love the book all the more because I have had the opportunity to see just how deeply corrupt and conniving the Baron is, which the movie just did not get enough time to cover. You have a much better sense of his arrogance and pride, how he undermines others and constantly plots. Just as well, I also have had the opportunity to discover the depths of the Fremen tribe and their customs. It was far more rigid than the movie lead me to believe, so that has been eye-opening as well :).
I'm in the last parts of the book, so I'm getting ramped up to finish that and start the others in the series. I was informed those are much smaller books, thus quicker reads while (as I've been told) being the best of the set. We shall see!

I have a feeling that a lot of people avoid their books because of their covers. The magic series is ok, but the rest...
