message 37012: by Timelord Iain (new)

Timelord Iain Maybe it's not a bad thing that I've fallen behind on Thea Harrison since she went indie... I still need to read the last Pia and Liam novellas as well...

@Claudia: always great to see someone reading Dresden... it was one of my earliest UF series reads... #5 introduced the Denarians... they show up every 5 books like clockwork... 5/10/15 and eventually 20...

I haven't read/listened to much UF/PnR this month: The Devil You Know (Felix Castor, #1) by Mike Carey Wildfire (Hidden Legacy, #3) by Ilona Andrews

message 37040: by Natalie (new)

Natalie Noblett | 37 comments Heather Sunseri's adult series starting with Exposed in Darkness is really good so far. It's a crime, suspense kind of book which I haven't read a lot of before but I like it because it's based on the main character, Brooke's, life and not just about the case. The cases are kind of all involved in her life etc.

Mikayla Elliot (mikaylaelliot) | 12 comments Pamela wrote: "What book(s) are you reading right now? PNR or otherwise. ;) If you have a minute, why not talk a little bit about the book? Basic plot, werewolf/vampire/what have you, is it part of a series, etc...."
So I'm currently reading Dune, though I haven't had the chance to read in the last few days since returning to work after Hurricane Harvey!
The book is honestly fascinating, though a bit long winded in some parts and overly indulgent in details that I have felt could be better summarized. However, Herbert has done a fantastic job of making such sections worthy of reading. I will admit that I had seen the movie first (I'm only 32 and my parents introduced it to me in my youth), but I have found they did a really good job condensing such a massive read into a movie.
Now, that being said, I love the book all the more because I have had the opportunity to see just how deeply corrupt and conniving the Baron is, which the movie just did not get enough time to cover. You have a much better sense of his arrogance and pride, how he undermines others and constantly plots. Just as well, I also have had the opportunity to discover the depths of the Fremen tribe and their customs. It was far more rigid than the movie lead me to believe, so that has been eye-opening as well :).

I'm in the last parts of the book, so I'm getting ramped up to finish that and start the others in the series. I was informed those are much smaller books, thus quicker reads while (as I've been told) being the best of the set. We shall see!

I have a feeling that a lot of people avoid their books because of their covers. The magic series is ok, but the rest...

message 37049: by Marina (new)

Marina Simcoe (marinasimcoe) I'm reading Dustwalker. Dustwalker by Tiffany Roberts. I'm enjoying the writing so much! It's very descriptive, I feel like I'm watching a movie - a delicious dystopian mix of Star Wars and Mad Max but with a great romance story too, which neither of those movies had!
