Irene (irenemikhaylova) | 478 comments Finished listening to Bonds of Justice (Psy-Changeling, #8) by Nalini Singh (great book) and reading two short stories: Devil to Pay (Night Huntress, #3.5) by Jeaniene Frost and Reckoning (Night Huntress, #0.5) by Jeaniene Frost . Also finished listening to the Vampire Academy (Vampire Academy, #1) by Richelle Mead .

Accidentally started reading The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward - forgot my e-reader at home for weekends and had to read whatever was available from my phone. Before that started reading The Ugly Duchess (Fairy Tales, #4) by Eloisa James - not very inspiring so far. And started listening The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan - the beginning quite differs from the movie.

Brittany Perry | 32 comments Anyone else think that the whole Miley Cyrus comments were in poor taste? I mean yeah its it comin from a character in a fictional book and it confirms the time frame but really what was the point? I mean this book is going to last hundreds of years and she bashes a real person in a fictional book? Maybe I am over reacting but I thought it was in poor taste and really unnecessary. Note:I am not a Miley Fan but it just seems like poor judgment

I've never liked any of the name dropping or product placement Ward does in BDB. It always felt like she was trying too hard to show how cool her characters are when all it really does it date her material. Plus, I don't know anything about half of that stuff, like all the clothing labels, so I never really "got" a lot of it to begin with.

Finishing Shatter Me (Shatter Me, #1) by Tahereh Mafi and The Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #2) by Rick Riordan .

message 33029: by Christine (new)

Christine | 1127 comments Listening to Tempted (Eternal Guardians, #3) by Elisabeth Naughton which for me has been better than the previous book in the series.

I started Breaking Free (Masters of the Shadowlands, #3) by Cherise Sinclair last night. I was just going to read a chapter and check it out, but the next I knew I was halfway through the book.

And I'm still reading Alien in the House (Katherine "Kitty" Katt, #7) by Gini Koch which is a fun read, but too long in my opinion.

Abby | 353 comments So I finally bit the bullet and the last few books I've read have been the Breeds by Lora Leigh... I just finished Kiss of Heat (Breeds, #4; Feline Breeds, #3) by Lora Leigh and I'm probably the ONLY one that thinks this but ... I didn't like it all that much.... I've seen people compare the New Species books to the Breeds and now that I've read a few of them I have to say.... IMO the Breeds is nothing but Sex and not much of a storyline... I may continue with the books but I MUCH prefer the NS

Sillylittlefishey | 1025 comments I just finished The King (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #12) by J.R. Ward , and I know that a lot of people didn't like it a whole lot, but I actually really enjoyed it and am in my good book hangover. It really was a hodgepoge of relationships though instead of focusing on just one, But I think that's just how her books are going to be now, she has too many storylines going at once for anything different.

Now I have an older book to read before I hit my stack of advance copies .... Night Embrace (Dark-Hunter, #2) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

It seems that my reading taste have changed and I don't like it. I'm only 15% in, but insta-mate and needing women to save the race from extinction don't seem to work for me anymore. Sorry, I can't be of more help. It's probably going to turn into a DNF...

It does get a little slow at times and then it gets fast at other times but it acutally like it alot. i think it has to do with the characters and their chemistry.

Shawn | 375 comments Merry wrote: "Based on the recommendation/review of Jessica at Rabid Reads (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/1...), I've decided to try the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris..."

This is a tricky one. I agree, book one, not so hot. However, that is often the case with the first book in a series and this one is no different, IMO. The next several books are AWESOME, but starting around "Dead in the Family" the series starts the downward spiral. Now, here is the tricky part ... do you invest yourself in the series to enjoy the meat of the series, only, to be seriously let down later on and feel like ... OH, i have to keep reading ... well, because thats what we do with series which we become invested. I, of course, read on and really wish I hadn't.

The technical writing never improves exponentially, but, the characters and the story (for several books), IMHO, out weigh this issue.

Good Luck.

Just a comment on Sookie books. I was an unhappy camper at the end...as an entitled fan. I think they would be enjoyable as a complete series where you can read the books in order quickly. I loved the first 4 or 5 books.
Edited to add - I just saw the entire series is being offered on audible for 4.95 each. I did enjoy the audio books.
