Jo, you should read them. They are pretty good. I went through all 3 pretty quickly.

I am currently reading (and almost finished with) Fragile Eternity and then I am going to start The Host and Blue Moon.

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments It's way better than Twilight but, Twilight works because it's Romance with a supernatural subplot. City of Bones relies on it's plot and character development with the romance as a subplot. You don't automatically think of MIT as a romance book the way you would for Twilight. Plus Twilight was easily accessible to all readers and those who didn't read, MIT however appeals to it's audience, those who would have read the Harry Potter books and so it doesn't have a broader range of appeal. Still, if it does make it to being one, the movie will blow twilight out of the water plot wise.

message 3105: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Supposedly it's going to be handled by the guys who did Lord of the Rings meaning that fantasy is their thing. So it should be good but what I care most about is that they get the characters and the music right. The newest Harry Potter was a fail in my books because they ignored the major parts of the book and they used no music and thus didn't get any emotional response from the audience for certain things. I mean I was tearing up watching Transformers and they're robots, why? Because Steve Jablonsky, the guy who did the score does great emotive music.

IF MIT has great actors (the ones you can really see as being the characters), does good dialogue, keeps to the major parts of the story (ie Jace and Clary, the City of Bones and Max etc) and has a good backing score, it'll be epic and do the story justice.

message 3106: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Still it's not guaranteed yet so don't be getting too excited - for the moment I'll hold out for more books and rereading the ones I have. Love the covers of them, shows that the publishers realised they had a good story on their hands.

That was my thought exactly Gems, I mean seriously how long can it take to reproduce in a smaller format, really should't take THAT much longer! It's all a ploy to get more $$$ out of us!!! Irritates me when they start a series in paperbacks and then all of a sudden start coming out in hardbacks, just lame... ok, getting down off my soap box now ;)

message 3109: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments I actually, bar city of bones, have the rest in hardback. It's the fastest way to get them and I have to get them from America too which is a hassle. Though I have been buying ebooks because they're usually a lot cheaper. Still, I can't get over the time as well, usually it's a couple of months so maybe I misread that - though why I'd see 2012 rather than July 2011 I don't know.

message 3110: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments Nope that's what I saw as well! See I have the first 3 all in the bigger soft covers, so for the 4th one to be hardback just seems silly to me.... but oh well i'm sure I'll still be suckered into buying it ;) Just hope Costco has it when it comes out so at least I can get it a little cheaper ;)

message 3111: by Laurie (new)

Laurie | 1 comments I'm reading Angel's Blood by Nalani Singh and am already hooked! I'm new to reading Paranormal Romance and look forward to seeing more recommendations on here.

message 3112: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Laurie - Nalini Singh is a great author to be starting with, lol.

Susan - None of the bookstores have Mortal Instruments here, in fact until the movie came out, they didn't even have Twilight so any chance of getting any other PNR or decent YA cheaper is non-existent.

Swallowing Darkness is good right? I feel like this series has been so unpredictable--i love it/i hate it. I have to say that Darkness is my favorite and Mistral. I don't think Mistral got enough play though. Frost is a little moody and that gets old, but I was super p.o.'d when Frost turned into a stag. WTF? I know he is gonna come back later and things are gonna get sticky. Galen is a spineless excuse for a man much less a royal guard.

I do have a question though:

*****************SPOILER if you haven't read A Lick of Frost (Meredith Gentry, #6) by Laurell K. Hamilton

Let me see if I have this straight...she is preggo with twins by 6 men? I am confused and what does that mean for the king--who is gonna be the king-don't answer that-I am assuming the logical choice is Darkness. Ok, so the fathers are Darkness, Mistral, Frost, Galen (thru oral), Shalto--isn't there someone else?

message 3114: by Iriana (new)

Iriana (ibalbian) Hello people i am new to the group and i just finished reading Two way street it was okay. But i have been reading along for a ride by Sarah Dessen which is an amazing book. Has any else read any Sarah Dessen books?
I am also about to start on the series Night World by L.J Smith? Has anyone read those books? I heard they are really good.

message 3115: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Cherra - I'm figuring you forgot Rhys, he's the only one of the main men you seem to have forgotten to mention.

Iriana - I've read Night World and while it's entertaining, I didn't find it exceptional. I don't understand what's really going on in the series, by that I mean the overall plot and there's no conclusion to it because she hasn't written in - and the characters aren't that memorable. I still don't understand what she was trying to achieve with that series but Ash is cool. I pretty much read them last month just to say I had and I don't think I finished the last book... I can't remember.

Gems--is Rhys one of the fathers?

message 3117: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Yeah more than likely. He's one of the major six right? And while he gets forgotten a lot in the story and pops up from just about anywhere, I think he is one of the fathers.

message 3118: by Tina (new)

Tina | 130 comments All this talk about the Mortal Instruments, I had to jump in. I loved that series! I agree with Gems, It's been overlooked.

Can't wait to read the 4th (Simon's story). I liked him. I'm really looking forward to the graphic novels. It will be interesting to see the characters in art form.

Just got it today from the library. Young adult romance, heard it was pretty good. Mixed reviews though. Some people said it was incredibly boring, others said it was one of the best stories they have read in a while? We'll see!

I'm reading Patricia Briggs's Hunting Ground. Let's see if I can finish it before I have to start diving into this giant stack of American Antebellum lit for class. o_o

message 3129: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I am currently reading The Magicians. It's kind of like a grown-up Harry Potter, though only half of the book takes place in "magic university". I am really liking it so far.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments Thought I needed to read something I'd really enjoy after finishing The Nymphos of Rocky Flats (which was OK, but annoyed me in lots of ways), so I've started Lover Eternal.

I feel happier already.

Yeah I'm with you Gems I'm pretty sure the 6th baby daddy is Rhys! And Cherra Swallowing Darkness is DEF better than Lick of Frost, so you gotta keep going!!!! I was actually ready for it to be done after that but am looking forward to the next book that comes out in December I think....

I am up to Burnt Offerings bk 7 and I have not heard of the other series yet.. I actually have to go on this website to find really good series as Australia is not very up to date with these types of books which really sucks lol thanks for replying btw

message 3137: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 330 comments I am actually starting the "Must Love Hellhounds" anthology shortly, but I recently finished Christina Dodd's "Storm of Visions" and Lora Leigh's "Bengal's Heart." SOV was pretty good, a bit slow in the beginning, nice cliffhanger toward the end, and BH was a very entertaining, and a great addition to the Breeds series.

message 3138: by new_user (new)

I know, I was dying to read it too! I loved the Darkness Chosen series. But there was just too much talking (with non-central characters) and not enough romance development/action. :( I was tempted to get SoS (and Hunting Ground, for that matter, LOL) today, but I decided to wait.

message 3149: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments Started [image error] a little less than an hour ago and wow, it's already pretty intense. Mead sure knows how to write a hot sex scene. I'm liking the world and the characters already but I'm worried about Kiyo. After reading the first three Georgina books I don't trust any men in Mead's stories! And one other thing, Eugenie seems unnecessarily mean toward the gentry. I'm sure this will be explained but it seems kind of cruel to kill the gentry when she can just send them back to the Otherworld. I guess I just need to keep reading to figure out why she is the way she is.

I'm not very far yet and I should probably go to bed now, but I've got tomorrow off from work so I have a feeling I'm going to finish this, it's already got me hooked!
