Nita (gillnit) I finished up Thorn Queen and read When Twilight Burns. Both I really enjoyed. Now I am reading The Fire King. I really like Liu's Dirk and Steele series- very creative and well written.

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Desiree, I'm half way through the book now and hated that I actually had to stop reading last night to sleep - bah who needs a few hours with their eyes closed when they could have a few hours with bones? Will definitely being getting the next couple of books too.

Oh! Blood Promise - the newest Vampire Academy book - just arrived in the post! WOOT! I cannot wait to get reading it.

I know, right?! 1st and 2nd are my fav... im taking my sweet time with "Destined For An Early Grave" because I dont want it all to end. I also started BDB last week and have flown right through them. Im on Z's story now, oh my... I hope I can find more series just like these 2 after Im done, otherwise Im gonna have some major Bones & Brother withdrawals ;)

message 3006: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Desiree, have you read Nalini Singh or Stray? Nalini Singh doesn't write about vampires but she does write amazing novels that really have that family connection feel like BDB has only there's more sexual tension between the couples and the plot is really intriguing, not clichéd to my thinking.

As for Stray, well it's something I'm thinking of reading after Night Huntress and Vampire Academy - Blood Promise.

Another series that you might be interested in is the JD Robb series. Not Paranormal Romance but a Futuristic Crime series with a great romance in it. I honestly advise you to give it a try, I've recommended them to everyone who reads PNR and UF and they all agree that's a great series, very cleverly written, great plots, the criminal is never obvious, great lead Characters with Eve Dallas and Roarke and equally brilliant support characters in the form of Detectives Peabody, McNab and Captain Feeney; Mavis, the singer; the butler; Louise the doctor; Charles the Licensed Companion and Nadine the reporter. Honestly can't recommend this series enough. It's fantastic and stretches for a good 20+ books with no sign of it finishing, lots of reading to do there.

message 3007: by Starling (new)

Starling I don't know why the In Death series resonates so well with people who enjoy paranormal books (romance or fantasy), but they do. If you do like them, try reading her newer books under the Nora Roberts name. Those are all stand alone if they are first published in hard cover and trilogies if in paperback.

She writes a very nice book, and they appeal to people who normally do not read romance novels.

Texndahlin | 5 comments Last night I finished the first book of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed's series....it was pretty good, took a little bit (about the first 100 pages) for me to really get into it, but the back 3/4 of the book just got better :) For those Ward and Feehan fans, she is a good combo of both (except for some Alien stuff that is kinda hard to buy) but all in all I will def read the second of this series. :) OH yeah and girls if you have kindles, it's free on Kindle(amazon) *wink*

thanks Kelleigh --someone else just recommended the Night Huntress series to me and it keeps popping up--I am gonna read it for sure. I loved the Sookie Series and I didnt think I would find any other series that would hold my attention--but I have found some pretty good ones. I am always open to new suggestions, so thank you!

Texndahlin if you even remotely liked the first Midnight Breed book you might like the Blackdagger Brotherhood series (the first in the series is Dark Lover). I have one more to go in the Midnight Breed Series-the series was pretty good, but I liked the characters in BDB better and each book linked the characters and story line better than MB...in my opinion.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Nita wrote: "I finished up Poison Study. So good! Now I am reading Thorn Queen."

I just finished Poison Studytoo and I really liked it. I wasn't sure what to expect b/c the first I heard about the book was actually your post--so thanks. I am looking forward to Magic Study.

I just started Caress of Twilight-Merry Gentry #2. I have heard very mixed reviews about this series, so I am interested to see how this one turns out.

I am actually an avid fan of BDB and sorry girls but Zsadist is MINE! ;) hee hee (uh oh are those fightin' words in these here parts??? lol) J.R. Ward is definitely one of a kind! I really hope this new series she is puttin out are just as good as BDB! don't you guys? I need to try these Nalini S. I am all about Wrath...or maybe Rhage...Vishous is pretty hot too-kinky but hot--hell, I loved them all. I am looking forward to her new series too. i am sure it is gonna ROCK! I have had a ton of people suggest Vampire Huntress recently. I havent read it yet, but I am looking forward to reading it.

I just started A Caress of Twilight (Meredith Gentry, #2) last night. What did you think about the first book in the series? Personally I wasnt that impressed with it, but now I am curious where the story is gonna go now that she has chosen her men. I thought the first one was a little slow, but I read it fast b/c I kept waiting for something good to happen.

message 3024: by Lauren (last edited Aug 20, 2009 07:27AM) (new)

Lauren | 208 comments Hi Cherra I was not impressed either. I was actually thinking about going back to Anita. It was really slow for me and I was reread parts cause I couldn't focus on it. It started getting really good at the last couple of chapters especially when she went to see the queen. Now I want to know what happens next. Who is the new spy? and what happen to Griffen? stuff like that.

Vishous' kink didn't bother me at all and I thought she brought an appropriate amount of "smut" to the love scenes without turning me off. I think that was because there was a pretty good story line going on within each book as well as the series. One of my girlfriends read the first book and she said the love scenes were too graphic for her taste...oops!

message 3026: by Texndahlin (new)

Texndahlin | 5 comments Cherra: BDB has graphic love scenes ? :) I think it's so funny, My sister watches True Blood religiously....and so I tried to get her to read BDB, and she was like that smut? I won't read that stuff.... HA! have you SEEN True Blood? aren't they jumping in the sack basically like a "commercial break?" (not that I'm complaining) but isn't that basically the same thing? LOL! It just makes me laugh because people (including my sister-gotta love her) get all uptight about romance novels, but shoot, watching HBO or Skinimax amounts to basically the same thing! lOL!

Dina: the sewing circle sooo set me up!! :) I have TBR for days!

Ha! Tex--it is so funny that you mentioned True Blood, b/c the same friend started watching True Blood--per my suggestion and she called me after season 1 episode 3 and said, "OMG! Is this gonna get better? I feel like I am watching a porno!" (so of course, I am feeling like the token 'perv' friend) I said, first of all, you have to give it a little time for the plot and characters to develop-you should really be hooked by episode 5 or 6 (she is) and second of all, if you think this is like watching a porno, you are not watching the right porno!

The Nalini series Psy-Changeling is worth a read, but I have to warn you - they get better, the first one or two aren't my favorite in the series. There is just so much paranormal explanation that's way too in-depth in my opinion. But if you can skim some of those parts, the basic story is good and they all build off of each other, so if you start in the middley you'll probably be confused. But the men are HOT in this book and there is some good romance! Plus there are some good plots too - by the end of the series, and I know this sounds weird, but I sort of want to live in the changeling world :)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Lol Stephanie I'm building a house in their forest - or near the wolf's den... not quite sure which would be better.

But yeah Nalini Singh writes a really involved story and I loved them all, definitely more than I liked reading about the BDB because it's more original. Plus the inner-workings of the changeling world in comparison to the Psy world is amazing. I so want to be a pack member.

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments I decided I needed something a little more lighthearted and fluffy than The Magicians A Novel, which I'm finally almost done with, so I started [image error] . It's hilarious! This is so fun and it kind of reminds me of the early Betsy books, except Jane is smart and not annoying.

I'm also reading Magic Lost, Trouble Found and Parallel Attraction but I think I'm going to stay with Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs for a while; it's such a quick read that I'll probably have it read it a day or two.

LOL! yes, that is Exactly what I meant :) I don't mind being the token "perv" it happens to me all the time. They just don't know what they are missing! :) I bet your friend was really scandalized when True Blood started this whole Bacchanalian theme with orgies and everything! hahah (us pervs just rolled with the flow!)

Stephanie: Thanks for the advice on the Psy-changeling series. I totally tried to skim through the first two books at Borders one time and thought they were kinda slow, not realizing that she was World-building (smacks herself in the forehead). I might need to re-check them out again. Are they anything like Feehan's Carpathians/Ghostwalkers? I am a big fan of the Ghostwalkers BtW (are you ladies into them?)

message 3034: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments I personally can't stand Feehan's Carpathians and I did try them. I think Nalini does a better job with her series, the dialogue is witty, there is definitely sparks between the couple and sexual tension and you really begin to root for them to get together because it's not a case of jump into bed immediately. Plus there is a plot overall through the books - which I didn't find in the Carpathians; I kept waiting for something to happen with them.

Haven't read Ghostwalkers though from personal experience with her writing, I don't know if I ever would.
