message 2952: by Starling (new)

Starling Where did The Enchantment Emporium come from?? I wasn't even sure Tanya Huff was still writing. I've got to get that book. I've been reading her for years, and it looked like all of the series I liked had come to an end and that there was nothing more out there. I'm so glad to know about this book.

And I've just finished MAGIC STRIKES by Ilona Andrews. Loved it. She has done a good job keeping me interested in Book 3 and I can't wait for Book 4.

I started DEAD END DATING by Kimberly Rave. Very much in the MaryJanice Davidson school of vampires. Funny and way too materialistic but I already like the main character on page 8, so I'll keep reading.

Kyle Borland (kgborland) POISON STUDY! I'm re-reading the study series and Storm Glass for the new re-release in september :D

I love Snyder and they are definitely in the running for my favorite series.

message 2955: by Starling (new)

Starling I don't know the Poison Study series. Tell me something about it.

message 2956: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) The Study Series?

Its awesome. It follows a character named Yelena who was on death row for killing a generals son. When her day of execution finally arrives her life is saved because the next prisoner on death row has to become the commanders(the president basically) food taster. So the first book follows that story line.

Poison STudy, Magic STudy, Fire STudy - those are all the books, and they are awesome :D

Storm glass follows Opal but read the study series first. You don't HAVE to but it will make a lot more sense.

message 2957: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo | 306 comments Poison Study sounds good. There is another series to add to the list! Thanks.

message 2958: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments I'm reading Some Girls Bite A Chicagoland Vampires Novel by Chloe Neill now and it's a lot of fun. I like how all the vampires belong to Houses, reminiscent of Kindred: The Embraced. I also really like the dynamic between Ethan and Merit and I'm excited to see how it plays out.

And this doesn't feel like the author's first book at all, it's really well thought out.

message 2959: by Beya (new)

Beya Penn (smily1410) i'm rereading evermore, by alyson noel.
i love it, but i must admitt its better the first time, cuz there is not much of a surprise to it anymore.

I got my paranormal feet wet with Lynsay Sands and I have to say I really liked them until they went into the new direction. The two most recent were my least favorite, but since then I have fallen in love with the stronger alpha male characters. Black Dagger Brotherhood was fabulous. Oh and I can't forget Kresley Cole and Lara Adrian either!

I have to agree about Sookie. I thought I really liked her books until I found J.R Ward and Kresley Cole. I only continue to read Sookie as they come out since I have already gotten so far in the series and I want to know who she ends up with.

If you haven't read Ward or Cole's books give them a try.

Anthony | 8 comments I just finished the J. R. Ward series and I have to say the Black Dagger brotherhood series was awesome. Edgier than Anita Blake. I don't know what I'll read next.

message 2967: by Smash (new)

Smash (smash_attack) So many amazing books! I'm currently on book 4 of the Carrie Vaughn "Kitty Norville" Werewolf series. Loved book 3 (Kitty takes a Holiday) and can't wait to see what book 4 brings!

message 2968: by Smash (new)

Smash (smash_attack) Jo wrote: "I want to read that series Ashley. Do you recommend it?"

Very much so! Kitty is a very likeable female lead who experiences real emotions and deals with her condition in the best way she knows how. As per the usual with these type of books, trouble follows Kitty around like white on rice! The books have really evolved since the first one too, which makes each one more enjoyable.

I've been thinking about getting into this series. I almost bought them at the bookstore over the weekend. Now I'm not sure I want to. It sounds kind of sad. Is it? What's the series about?

message 2970: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished up Midnight Rising this morning and will be starting Veil of Midnight shortly.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments I'm on my second attempt to read A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. Lachlain still sounds like Groundskeeper Willy from the Simpsons. I don't care how handsome and sexy he's supposed to be, that's stuck in my head.

I'm not stopping - I'll carry on even if it bloody kills me (which is why I included it in the August Challenge).

message 2972: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Thanks, Charlotte, lol, i was just about to read that story and now I'm going to have Groundskeeper Willy in my head.

Actually what do people start reading when they've finished Black Dagger Brotherhood and are waiting for JM's story?

message 2973: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I finished up Mark of the Demon which I liked very much and am now reading Undead and Unwed. I am usually not one for chick-lit type books, but I am enjoying this book more than I thought I would.

message 2974: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne after a short time away from PNR I'm readingSlave to Sensation...and very good it is too:)

message 2975: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Yay Adrienne, you're reading my favorite series which is why I'm having so much trouble finding more good PNR - alas none of them seem to live up. Psy/Changeling and BDB seem to be the only ones I can stomach right now, anything else just lacks that spark of originality and good writing and characterisation.

message 2976: by LooLoo (new)

LooLoo | 306 comments I'm reading Sunny's Monere: Children of the Moon series. I'm on the second book now and I'm really enjoying it. Seems to be a lot like LKH's Meredith Gentry series.

Oh I know, I'm afraid I've got really picky about what I read....any chance that I'm not going to love it I dump it lol:).

message 2978: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments I kind of just not pick the books up anymore. I've decided UF doesn't work for me because I'm fed up of kick ass 'normal' woman who grab power here, there and everywhere and have every guy wanting her but never being able to decide which one SHE wants. But PNR always tends towards a good dose of cheesiness that makes my teeth hurt, Nalini Singh and JD Ward (who I resisted for a long time, but can admit does a great job making the men into a believable brotherhood even if the romance part of it has kind of died) are possibly the only two I'm really interested in, the rest fall flat.

message 2979: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne For PNR I guess J R Ward, Nalini Singh, Adrian Phonix (not tech PNR I know but....) Anya Bast and Jeaniene Frost are the only ones I consider reading at the moment. I do read other genres tho' so that kind of keeps things fresh if I switch between PNR and one of those.

Characterization is lacking, for sure, but there are some good series out there. You just have to wade a little, LOL.

message 2981: by Starling (new)

Starling I don't know why I like the Undead and [fill in the blank:]series because mostly I don't enjoy that kind of book, but for some reason that ditsy blond appeals to me. But I have to be in the right frame of mind to read them.

message 2982: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments new_user, I'll get out my wellies then, lol.

Sometimes I wish I weren't so picky but I know what I like and when I find it, it's so satisfyingly good. It's just that I find it rarely; I honestly can't believe that I struck gold with Nalini Singh on my first delve into PNR - of course, that meant every other forray paled in comparison *sigh* Double-edged sword, me thinks.

message 2983: by Clerah (new)

Clerah I'm reading Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair. I don't normally read too much SyFy, so this is going to be interesting.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Has anyone read the Vampire Babylon Series? It was just recommended to me and I was wondering what others thought about it?

I am currently reading the Midnight Breed Series--it's ok to good, but not fantastic. I really liked The Southern Vampire series/Sookie Stackhouse and The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series.

message 2985: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments Cherra, I have not read Vampire Babylon yet but at the store they had book 3 for a dollar so I picked it up. Now I have to get book 1&2.

I am starting A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry, #1)

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Thanks Lauren!

Let me know how the Meredith Gentry book turns out--I have been hearing more about that series recently too.

message 2987: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments me too im excited to read it. with all the things i been hearing i want to see for myself.

message 2988: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I finished up Undead and Unwed. Not sure if I am going to read the next in the series. Now I am reading Dark Lover.

message 2989: by Starling (new)

Starling Cherra, I've read all of the Merry books. Merry is a fertility goddess, so there is a lot of sex in those books. The series is about the succession of a Queen of Fairie, and the power that sex gives you in that kind of universe. The sex, and the power of sex, IS the plot.

Having said that, because if you prefer sweet Regency romances the sex could be a problem, Hamilton knows how to write, and writes a good book. I enjoy the series.

By the way there is nothing wrong with sweet Regency romances. I've read a pile of those too, and I enjoy them as well.

I ♥ Bookie Nookie (bookienookiereviews.blogspot.com) (ibookienookie) Jo--I have recommended the Southern Vamp series to several friends and they all love it. I hope you do as well. I thought the first 2 books were a little slow--maybe because I started watching the show first. After the 3rd book, I was totally hooked and have now finished the series.

message 2991: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I finished up Dark Lover by Brenda Joyce and now I am going to start Poison Study. I have seen so many people rave about this book on here.

Lol, I stuck with it too Charlotte. Too much sex for my taste and it took forever to get past Lachlain's accent and his aggressiveness at the beginning. It soon changes though. I liked the book alot better from middle to end, but not my favorite series so far.

If you can't put it down Dead until Dark, you are really in trouble when you get into a few more books. :-) My Mom won't even answer the phone if I call when she is reading!

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments Desiree wrote: "Charlotte wrote: "I'm on my second attempt to read A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole. Lachlain still sounds like Groundskeeper Willy from the Simpsons. I don't car..."

It's definately not one of my favourites, but it's not bad.

Would it sound terrible if I said there isn't enough sex in it for me (the scene in the forest, during the full moon - hell yeah!!! I'd like some more that please)?

I've only got about 50 pages to go. The accent still gets on my nerves, but I did smile when Emma into Cartman from South Park ("Screw you guys, I'm going home").

I'm now wondering if I could count No Rest for the Wicked as Erotica for the August Challenge.

message 3000: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments I'm about 1/4 of the way through [image error] - it's a cross between Harry Potter and Narnia, but definitely more adult. Lots of alcohol and f-bombs thrown around so it's definitely not for kids. And even though this is very heavily influenced but the two aforementioned works, it doesn't necessarily feel like a rip-off, it's more of an homage if anything.

I'm definitely enjoying it though.
