Beth F I guess I hadn't even looked to see if they were on booksfree, but I'm assuming they aren't because booksfree is exlusively paperback and Meyer's newest installments are all in hardcover.

message 252: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Aug 08, 2008 12:01PM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Beth- actually New Moon is the second in the series and BF does have it. The third book Eclipse is the only one they that don't have.

message 253: by Beth F (new)

Beth F Doh! That's the one I meant then. :)

I've read Twilight and New Moon--if those are the 1st and 2nd.

message 254: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I'm reading Nightlife by Rob Thurman and honestly, it's really dragging for me. I'm putting it down to pick up Breaking Dawn and then Cry Wolf for the Urban Fantasy bookclub. Let's see how much I like this last book in the Bella/Edward saga.

message 255: by new_user (last edited Aug 09, 2008 01:57AM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Ah, you're right, Jael, those books are hardcover. Hm, I think I'm gonna cave, lol.

message 256: by Amie (new)

Amie (amiestuart) | 44 comments Ranata,

I couldn't finish Nightlight :( Not even sure I made it past page 50

message 257: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I'm only in the low hundreds right now (well, when I was reading it, I just stopped yesterday to read Breaking Dawn) but it started off pretty good. Kinda just dragggggggging along. I hate when I can't get into a series everyone else thinks is awesome.

message 258: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Reading Breaking Dawn...Then Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs and then The Becoming by Jeanne C. Stein.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) New_User- I thin you should try it for atleast twomonths to see how you like it. They also have the option where you can buy the books as wellanddonate those you no longer want. I'm definetely going to buy Stray by RachelVincent.I was shocked how great this book was I got so completey lost in the story that by the time I had to get ready for work I was halfway through the book. It's a very good shifter book sorta along the lines of Briggs. I'll be reading the sequel next before jumping backinto the Kitty Norville Series.

message 260: by Gbina (new)

Gbina | 16 comments TDF - Regarding Grimspace and Ann Aguirre.

First, I loved Grimspace and pre-ordered Wanderlust. Can't wait for it to get here. :)

Second, I just had lunch with Ann Aguirre in Denver at Worldcon!!! Woo Hoo! I was only there for one day and she offered to meet me for lunch since I was going to miss her signing. How cool is that? First time I have ever met someone as a fan. :)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I'll be starting Rogue by Rachel Vincent. I finished Stray and I think it was good book about shifters. Although the protagonist was a little childish and nerve wrecking at some points in the story, she was a very strong character( reminded me of Buffy). I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Stray. Hopefully Faythe grows up a little in Rogue.

message 262: by new_user (last edited Aug 10, 2008 02:47PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yeah, Jael, I ended up signing up. They shipped yesterday, so we'll see how long they take to arrive. My only qualm is that they didn't ship the books by order of priority. That annoyed me a little, kinda defeats the purpose of prioritizing my list, lol, but I guess you have to choose "ship this next." Learned my lesson, lol.

Oh, and you might be interested to know I did start on Boyd's Passion, but unfortunately I'm considering dropping it right now. It's a little overdramatic. It does seem to be true what some reviewers say, that the books are kind of Anne Rice for werewolves, but the writing could use some work. :( She's not very good at building suspense through events and characters, more like she says "it was suspenseful." And I had such hopes... So I'm considering moving on to CL Wilson's next book instead since I enjoyed the first.

message 263: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Was going to read Cry Wolf but I realized I was totally confused and should probably read the Mercy Thompson series before that one.

Right now, I'm reading The Becoming because Breaking Dawn was pretty much boring me. Too bad. I guess I was in a different mind state when I read the first 3 because I thought they were pretty darn good. Not so much now. LOL

message 264: by new_user (last edited Aug 10, 2008 02:49PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Ranata, have you read the short story "Alpha and Omega" from the On the Prowl anthology? That tends to help readers understand the beginning much better since it takes off right where that short ended. It's pretty much required reading, lol. I didn't really find that reading the Mercy series was required to follow the book.

message 265: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I did read the anthology but I still don't know who the characters are besides Anna and Charles. It seems to take off but it doesn't explain much. I really hate when a book does that but I will be trying to read it again.

message 266: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Ah, I see what you mean. That's true too.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Ranata- Why were you confused most of characters in Cry Wolf have nothing to do with Mercy. the only one who really shows up from Mercy is Sam(Charles brother) In Mercy's Moon Called the hint to the Chicago's Alpha sinister ways and what he has been doing but they never really go into it enough like Alpha and Omega does.( It just says that Charles is going to Chicago to handle it in Moon Called) The anthology story is the one that really builds it up for Cry Wolf.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) New_User-That's sad about Boyd the blurbs seemed promising. BF usually sends the next titles that are available from your list. Look at the settings for your books. if it says Low then they skip those ones for ones that says Meduim or High( But Don't worry it changes daily so your low books will probably be meduim or high tomorrow) Besides the ship next button you can only use once every 30 days.

message 269: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I feel like I just walked in on the middle of a series. I don't know who any of players are and nobody's being introduced. Since this is a first book, I expected to get background on the characters but I really feel like I just opened the book to the middle of the page and started.

message 270: by calicheri (new)

calicheri | 39 comments I read 2 good ones in the last couple of days. Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs, and Into the Flame by Christina Dodd. I love it when a book I'm looking forward to is as good as I'm hoping it will be.

message 271: by Pamela, Moderatrix (new)

Pamela (foxglovewitch) | 614 comments Mod
gbina, that's so cool! She seems really nice from the emails I've gotten from her.

I finished Grimspace last night and started Wanderlust this morning. I'm really digging this series.

message 272: by Tricia (new)

Tricia | 39 comments I just read Acheron....OMG I loved his story!

I'm reading Cry Wolf right now, and it is helpful to have read the Mercy series, if for nothing else then to understand the refrences.

message 273: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments Ranata ~ Having not read any of the Mercy Thompsons yet, I agree that it's like stepping in in the middle. I'm still reading Cry Wolf, but feel like I'm missing out on the "inside joke" about the Samuel & Mercy relationship. It's not a major plot point, so I'm just overlooking it for now.

message 274: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I just joined booksfree.com too. I didn't realize until after I'd selected my books that I wouldn't get them in the order I selected them. So now I getting the third and fourth book in the Immortals After Dark series and I haven't read the first and second ones yet! I couldn't find them at Borders or the library either. How important is it to read the first one which is one of the stories in Playing Easy to Get book? Any ideas where I can get the first two?

message 275: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I was literally like who are these people and why are they important to me? I'm taking it back until I've read Mercy and at least liked the series enough to read Cry Wolf. I'm still in a Vamps good, Werewolves bad mode of thinking, sadly. LOL

message 276: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Hey, Lori, I've read the first few books from the Immortals After Dark series, and they're mostly standalone, so I think you should be fine reading them out of order.

Cheri, I'm glad to hear that Dodd's was as good as hoped. I have Into the Flame on my BF list, and this time I've made sure it'll ship next, lol. Argh, the waiting.

In the meantime, I'm starting the T'en series when I get a free moment.

message 277: by Mary (new)

Mary (booookgeeeek) | 4 comments Reading the new Christine Feehan Turbulent Sea. Have read all of the others in the series (actually, most of Feehan's books) and am looking forward to this one. Joley was my favorite character throughout this series, so I am glad she finally gets a book of her own.

message 278: by Natale (new)

Natale (natalestenzel) | 32 comments I just finished Acheron yesterday. It about destroyed me -- poor Ash. So glad SK made him happy in the end, but man did she hurt him first. Sigh.

Next . . . a toss-up between about four books. Turbulent Sea by Christine Feehan, High Noon by Nora Roberts, Daughters Grimm by Minda Webber and the Vampire Next Door by Kerrelyn Sparks. I love this kind of dilemma*g*.

message 279: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I just finished Dead Witch Walking and started Guilty Pleasures by Laurell Hamilton. I wanted to try the first book in some of the series I've seen recommended here and then decide which one I want continue next. I like them all so far but I think the Southern Vampire series is still my favorite. After I finish this book and the last of the four I bought last Friday, A Great and Terrible Beauty, I'm going to start reading the rest of the Sookie saga. I just love her and can't wait to find out how Eric is going to play into things. I will definately continue with the other series but Sookie first.

message 280: by Anita (new)

Anita (anitaw) | 166 comments Regarding: message by Lori - I just joined booksfree.com too.

I'm on www.paperbackswap.com. They've got a good paranormal romance section. I've found it a great money saver and a wonderful way to try out new authors that you might not otherwise give a chance. I think all of the book swap sites are hit-and-miss when it comes to getting the all the books you want from a series. My solution has been to try for one the first book of the series, and if I like it, then go ahead and request the next few in the series, buying the ones that don't happen to be available.

message 281: by Pamela, Moderatrix (new)

Pamela (foxglovewitch) | 614 comments Mod
http://www.bookmooch.com is pretty good for swapping, too, though it can be difficult to find a particular title at times.

message 282: by Chasidy (new)

Chasidy I'm re-reading The dark-hunte series for like the millionth time. But I'm also reading Belladonna by Anne Bishop.

message 283: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments I just finished Into the Flame. (I couldn't wait for BF to send it, so I just caved and bought it.) Whew. Loved it. Now it's over. :( Hard act to follow. I think I'll go back to reading the T'en book now. :D

message 284: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I just finished Guilty Pleasures and am going to start A Great and Terrible Beauty.

I liked this book but I think it was my least favorite of the three series that I've started this week. The Southern Vampire series is still my favorite, followed by Rachel Morgan, The Hollows. I'm sure I'll read more but I want to read more Sookie first.

message 285: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Aug 13, 2008 07:07PM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I just finished the second book in the Kitty Norville series by Vaughn. I'll be starting Magic Bites by Ilona Andrews and Howling at they're Moon. I hope they're good

New_User - let me know how long it takes for BF to ship your books , Also I think I know why they sent your books out of order. When I first joined they sent the first books I added to my list no matter wht order I put them in after adding others, but don't worry they'll start sending them in the order after the intial shipment.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) New_User- I bought Into the Shadows and I was just wondering if I have to get the other two books first before I read this one.

message 287: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Jael, the first three books can be read on their own so you should be good. Let me know what you think of it. Shadows is a bit darker compared to the others.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I love Dark books. I'll be reading it after I finish the two BF sent. I'll definetely let you know what I think

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Chasidy- Let me know what you think of Anne's book. I hve the first two in the Dark Jewels series and I keep putting them off.

message 290: by Kim (new)

Kim | 57 comments Good morning, all!
I just read the first three of LKH's Merry Gentry series over the weekend. (Wow, it's been a long time since I had that sort of time on my hands.)
I read the Anita Blake series up until Micah and needed to take a break before going any further with those. The Anita character has strayed so incredibly far from her roots, it's hard to even recognize her anymore, so I'm a little undecided about finishing the remaining books about her.
I wanted to give the Merry Gentry ones a try, and am hooked. I think I like the Merry character because she doesn't have remotely the amount of angst that's carried around by the Anita character, so I feel more sympathetic, I think. Now I just need to acquire the rest of the series.
I'm excited to read a good review of Acheron, as well b/c I've been SO waiting for that one!

message 291: by Chasidy (new)

Chasidy Hey Jael,

I haven't read the Dark Jewels series but from what others have told me it's much better than the Eupherma series that I've just got done reading. I'm planning on picking that series up next. From what I hear, those books are really yummy.

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments I'm currently reading Storm Born by Richelle Mead. I'm only about 50 pages in, but so far so good.

It's also very different than Mead's other series. Her Georgia Kincaid series is fantasy that reads a bit more lighthearted. Her Vampire Academy series is YA and reads a little more like the Twilight (Meyers) or House of Night (Cast & Cast) series. Storm Born is more fantasy, but definitely has more sensuality than her other writing.

Has anyone else read this?

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments I've seen a few posts about Anne Bishop's Black Jewels trilogy and just wanted to chime in.

I read A LOT (over 150 novels/year) mostly in the Fantasy & PNR genres and the Black Jewels trilogy is one of my favorites of all time! They are definitely dark fantasy - and the "dark" part includes the sensual nature of the novels. It's done very well, but if alternative sensuality (think fetish) really bugs you then these aren't the books for you. I personally would liken the sensuality aspect of these novels to those in the Jacqueline Carey Kushiel series.

Hope this helps!

message 294: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Just finished Broken Vows (T'en Trilogy) by Cory Daniells, and I liked it! The main romance is a captor-captive one, except more complicated (as the heroine has powers of her own and the hero also has insecurities, etc.) I think Daniells has written this scenario better than I've seen it many other novels that try the same device. It was impressive how Daniells painstakingly develops their characters and relationships. It really was like a courtship put to writing as the reader learns about characters as they learn about each other. Good for anyone who likes fantasy.

Also, just two cents about Anne Bishop. If you don't like weak, almost negligible male characters, I advise against it. If, on the other hand, you like the whole She-Ra fantasy, go for it, lol, jk, jk. At any rate, it is a fantasy series so the romance is really a subplot.

message 295: by Lori (last edited Aug 18, 2008 06:28AM) (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I just finished A Great and Terrible Beauty which is a YA book that I've been hearing raves about. It's paranormal but there isn't enough romance in it to consider it a PNR book. I did really enjoy it though and am looking forward to reading the next 2 books in the series. I'm off to Borders now to get them and then I think I'll probably start the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. I got books 2 & 3 from Booksfree.com but have to wait until I get the first book that I ordered from Amazon.

I just finished up Ann Aguirre's GRIMSPACE (which was GREAT), and now I'm reading Jenna Black's THE DEVIL YOU KNOW.

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I just started reading Acheron by Sherrilyn Kenyon.

message 299: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Just finished Rebel Angels and started The Historian. I'm not sure about this book but I'm going to keep going. I picked it up at Kmart because we were supposed to get a hurricane today and I was very afraid I'd be stuck with nothing to read! The storm has taken another track and missed us so all is well.

I loved Rebel Angels and am looking forward to reading the last book in this series.

message 300: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I just started C.L. Wilson's Lord of the Fading Lands this morning and I can't put it down! I'm loving this and so glad that I have the second one sitting here for when I finish the first. I have forced myself to put a book mark in the book and get to the things I should be doing. (Although, commenting on here is not really one of them). I have seen this book/series mentioned on Goodreads so much that I finally got my hands on it and everything I heard is true! I love Feehan's lifemates, but they barely come close to these truemates. Must read for all PNR fans.
