Stav (voliotisa) | 291 comments yeah, he's pretty much awesome...I was reading the Butch/Marissa book (sorry, but I truly can't keep the book names in my head), and just loved that there was so much about V in there, and I couldn't wait to finish with it and get on to his own book . . .

I'm hoping Bending the Rules will pick up. Right now it is so much "Can you believe what a jerk he is? I'm so attracted to him! He's a jerk." With some teen-age delinquents thrown into the mix. :-) I'm almost willing to read a scene with lessers, LOL.

I haven't jumped on the V bandwagon yet. Wrath remains my man, um, Vamp.

message 2853: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments lol I dunno, I didn't mind Wrath in his story but meh, he doesn't really cut it for me. I liked Rhage too and while Zsadist was intense, V seems to be the guy I'm most intrigued by. So far though, he hasn't cried which is an incredible big plus. Kind of not looking forward to Phury's story... each scene with him kind of just drags for me, though sometimes his scenes make me want to haul Zsadist's ass over hot coals.

As an intro to the series, I thought Wrath's story was good, and as a character, the change in him once he found his "mate" was unexpected and somewhat weird to me, till I came to learn that its the nature of their species...fine, I'm accepting of it now...after that though, I've been much more intrigued by the other characters... I loved Rhage more than Wrath, and I liked Butch alot too, but I feel like I've been waiting for V all my life..er, I mean this series...lol

message 2855: by Willow (new)

Willow Brook | 47 comments No, no, no, not Wrath (forgive me Your Majesty) --- Rhage!! I love Rhage... and his big dragon too. Rhage is my man/Vamp!

I like Wrath and Z of course, but Rhage has been my favorite. At any rate, I think I'll take a break from the BDB series for now -- my boring non-PNR notwithstanding.

Funny about so far V hasn't cried. Those Big Tough Boys do get teary, don't they? Maybe V's tears come in his own book.

message 2856: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Well gotta give JR props for getting us to discuss her men like this. Yeah Rhage and his dragon are cool! Loved that story, possibly my favorite so far. But the position could change with V.

message 2857: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments I'm with you guys - Rhage is the man!!!! (Or whatever). To have a man fall in love with your voice when he can't even see you? Dang, that scene was hot. Or to fall for someone he thinks he can't have, and still be willing to spend time with her. That's hot.

I'm a huge nalini singh fan though - I love the shifters. They seem to me, on average, alot hotter than vampires ever are, despite the "non cold dead" life. I think it's why I started writing them. There's just something about the animalistic heat between the characters. I'm glad Nalini changed from contemporary to paranormal. Its' SO Much better/hotter for her!

message 2858: by Willow (new)

Willow Brook | 47 comments Yes, Rhage is a sweetie. But like you, Teresa, I'll take Singh's shifters over Ward's Vamps ('cept maybe Rhage )any day. And Singh's stories and writing over Ward's for that matter. Not that I haven't enjoyed the first three BDB books. It's just I think Singh is an amazing writer.

message 2859: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments She is The writer I measure everyone in PNR to. She just has everything you want in a book. Great plot that continues through the series and a great plot for the actual book. Great tension, conflict and heat between the main characters and the character development and interactions make you feel like you're one of the pack looking on. I'm always looking forward to the next book and the background characters really intrigue me. Hawke's story is driving me nuts especially knowing that it's not coming for another two years. I'm going batshit.

Still Rhage did seem to have a little bit of a Chanegling attitude in him, lol. Maybe that's why I liked him so much, though the same could be said of V and the 'Mine' attitude he has.

Well, I'm not actually "reading it right now" but book 4 in the Night Huntress Series (Destined for an Early Grave) is waiting for me at my local Borders. And I will be reading it before the night it over!

I know, not too very long ago (3 days or so) I was complaining about Cat being a bit insolent. Another reader kindly noted that Cat does grow and mature through the series. And thankfully she was right! I have really enjoyed Cat's progression, along with, of course, the progression of Cat and Bones' relationship!

I spent this past weekend doing little else aside from flying through the series. Having just finished up At Grave's End, I am desperate to finish up at work and head out to pick up the next book!

I am so with you on that Gems! I can't even consider reading something that doesn't have vamps, witches, were's, shifters, etc it in ;) And I was a major mystery reader for a long time, but now they just seem boring LOL

message 2863: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Mystery's are good, if you can't tell who the bad guy is until the very end. But for some reason mystery's have this tendency to go for this 'shock factor' and because they all do it, the reader begins to look for the least suspicious person as the killer and then when that is the killer, they're not shocked.

JD Robb is the only mystery writer I'll read. Usually I'm shocked by who the actual murderer is - if that's the way the plot turns out - or I'm kind of appalled. There is one story where I was actually sickened by who I believed the murderer was because on one level I couldn't believe that person was capable of murder and yet all the evidence pointed to her. That was a good mystery book!

Although I'm kind of becoming jaded in PNR too - Run of the mill Vampires just don't do it anymore. There has to be something special to it, for it to stand out in my mind as a good book. BDB succeeds because of the Brother's aspect. Their relationship with each other is so much more than anything you'd find in most Vampire books, heck more werewolf books don't have that level of camaderie.

Oh yeah totally agree with you Gems on the Mystery's! Oh I love JD Robb too!!! Which book are you referring to, just curious ;)

Yes that is true about PNR, but I still find I can't get enough, for me it's a sickness LOL, LOL

message 2865: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Innocent in Death. The killer was pretty obvious in a way but I didn't want to believe that it was the killer because... it was just so unbelievably wrong. I absolutely love JD Robb - again she's an excellent character builder and the world just rocks, you can almost see it in your head.

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 330 comments I just finished "Angels' Blood," the first in the Guild Hunter series, and and "Angels' Pawn," the companion novella to "Angels' Blood." This series is about Angels, Vampires, and Vampire hunters, and was a very nice start of the Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh. She has written another novella to this series coming out in the anthology "Must Love Hellhounds" titled "Angels' Judgement" releasing in September.

Tonight, I will be starting "Jacob" by Jacquelyn Frank, the first in the Nightwalkers Series focusing on Demons. If these are anything like her Shadowdweller series, the Nightwalkers should be a very entertaining read for all PR fanatics!

Oh gosh I have a LLLOONNNGGG way to go to get to that In Death book LOL, I've only read thru the first 4! Love that series, but haven't gone back to it since my vampire obsession kicked in LOL

message 2868: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Lol I started the series years ago and now have a beautiful shelf dedicated to these black covers with simple but beautiful images on the front... however, something has happened and the shop I used to buy them from isn't selling them anymore and amazon doesn't have the beautiful covers anymore. *sniff* I hate when the covers change mid series. It just ruins the pattern.

I read the Nightwalker series a couple of months ago and loved it! I think books 3-5 were my favorites, especially Damien. I haven't read the Shadowdwellers yet but both books 1 and 2 are sitting on my shelf waiting for me.

I was wondering how "Guilty Pleasures" was because I read a short story by Laurell K. Hamilton, and caught a glimpse of Anita Blake mid-series between "Micah" and "Obsidian Butterfly." I enjoyed the short, and bought "Guilty Pleasures" shortly after but just haven't started it yet.

Thanks for letting me know about the Nightwalker series because I was hoping it would be as good as the Shadowdweller series, which is sooooo good! I think she may be writing another Nightwalker book, and the third Shadowdweller book comes out next month which is fantastic!

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Hello! I'm semi new to this paranormal romance world. :) I'm looking for a new series to read. Any series along those lines that anyone can recommend?

Hi Kelleigh, like you I enjoy Sookie, but I took a break from her for a while and headed straight for the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost(4 book series so far). Her 1st book is called "Halfway to the Grave". Great action, romance, plot, and humor.

I also just started the Black Dagger Brotherhood series By JR Ward, 1st book "Dark Lover", pretty good so far and everyone on here seems to swear by them
:) Good luck!

Oh yeah I hate that too, I like to stick with one cover style if at all possible! And I REALLY hate when they all of a sudden decide to change from one printing style to another, IE all previous books released as soft covers and then all of a sudden part way through hard cover, just annoys me LOL

Shannon as I'm sure Kyle will attest, since he's technically re-reading the Anita Blake series, it's good! At least so far I am LOVING it! I am currently 3/4 of the way through Blue Moon which is #8 in the series.. I know the first book, guilty pleasures was a little boring at first, it definitely picks up and the series gets better the more you read!:) I know some folks have said that it changes, some say for worse, some say for better, but I'm invested so I'm going to stick with it... Hope you enjoy it!

The one's Desiree mentioned are definite must reads as is the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs and IMHO the Anita Blake Series by Laurell K Hamilton OH and the Riley Jensen Guardian series by Keri Arthur. You will have no lack of finding good series with the folks in this group :)

Many ebooks have nice "covers" but you generally need to seek them out to see them. So it isn't like a paper book that when you put it down, you see the cover. The Kindle just holds your place or you go to your home page where all titles are listed. For the most part I don't miss covers. Actually that can be a bonus with the Kindle as far as some of the goofier/racier covers out there. :-)
