Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Just finished Lover Eternal and am now moving onto Lover Awakened - got to admit I'm glad I picked up the series now. It's definitely better than Christine Feehan's series, I read one book of that and I was bored to tears by it, so I was kind of expecting the same for BDB but the characters are really growing on me. I'm looking forward to and dreading V's story mainly because I love him - he's just neat - but I've heard spoilers so I'm reluctant to read it, plus I'm worried about Phury's story too... this is what happens when you read spoilers thinking you'll never read the series so it won't matter... *sigh*

LooLoo | 306 comments Gem - I know what you mean, V was my favorite and when I saw some of the reviews before I read it I was almost dreading it but really I liked 90% of his book. He and Butch are still my favorites.

Kyle, I haven't read Storm Glass but since I've read her Study series, SG is in my TBR pile. I really enjoyed Snyder's writing style. The study series is very good, I enjoyed the first 2 books more than the 3rd. Theres action, romance, suspense. Just a grain of romance compared to what I usually enjoy, but overall a great series.

Morgan & Charlotte: How did you like Book 1? I just started this book last night. I had just finished reading Jeaniene Frost's 3rd book "At Graves End" of her Night Huntress series and I absolutely loooved them. Bones and Cat's relationship, the action, humor, and plot are everything Im looking for in a new series. So, someone suggested HLNO and I picked it up. I dont know if I just have too high of expectations since I was looking for something too similar. A chase maybe?

(Possible SPOILERS) I did not like how the book started off. I love a chase, when characters fall for one another, romance, yada yada...But this to me started off kinda rough and forced, not mutual. Lachlain seems so possessive and forceful it was an immediate dislike for me.

I only have gotten 30 pages in, so I know I haven't given it a real fair chance, but Im ready to return it :/ Does it get better?

Desiree, I only read the first chapter and I haven't touched it since. Lachlain seriously got on my nerves - so I went back and finished Dark Lover instead (which was fantastic). I'll have to go back to A Hunger Like No Other at some point, but I'm just not in the mood at the moment.

I'm waiting for the first Night Huntress book to arrive, everyone really seems to enjoy them - Bones sounds very popular.

message 2806: by Desiree (new)

Desiree Yeah it's just not doing it for me either. I have Dark Lover in a pile of books to read and I actually thought of starting that instead lol. As for Night Huntress, Its amazing! Im awaiting the 4th in the series, its released July 28th. If I were you, Id get a hold on a copy asap, because if you're like me, I ate the series right up! :) Thanks for the reply.

To Tame a Highland Warrior (Highlander, #2) by Karen Marie Moning

This series is REALLY good. I just reviewed the first book on my profile if you care to take a gander.

message 2808: by Holly (new)

Holly (velvetsun) | 21 comments I have been having *such* a hard time getting into any books lately. Ever since i finished the latest BDB book.

I am trying to get into Ill Wind by Rachel Caine & A Girl's Guide To Vampires by Katie MacAlister.

I guess i'm just trying to pass the time time until Tuesday, when the new Jeaniene Frost Night Huntress book comes out. ;)

Glad you are enjoying the series more. I'm starting Lover Awakened tonight. Just finished Darkfever which I really enjoyed. Never read Moning before -- which still strikes me as a bit odd considering how popular she is.

message 2810: by Ally72 (new)

Ally72 Hi Willow,
I love Karen Moning's "Fever" series!!! I can't wait for the next one to come out on August 18th. Are you going to read "Bloodfever" now that you are done with "Darkfever?" I just picked up those books about a month ago and read the first three right away. I am addicted to that series...it is so not good!
Ally

message 2811: by Ally72 (new)

Ally72 Hi Megan,
I just started the Anita Blake series too and am reading the second book..."The Laughing Corpse." I picked up the first book after I finished "Faefever" and it was VERY different (in a good way). I hope you like "Faefever"...The ending in that one has made me very anxious to read the next one in a few weeks...I am so glad it is coming out on August 18th!
Ally

Definitely, though I really don't like the story line, LOL. I'm not much into Urban Fantasy. But Darkfever was just hypnotic somehow so I think I am sucked into this series. I was surprised when I realized that the book was over (read it on my Kindle). I was that caught up and obviously it wasn't the end of the story.

I didn't even think it was supposed to be out till August but I guess I was wrong :D So excited..okay well off to read.

Willow Brook | 47 comments Any idea if you need to read Storm Born first? I got Thorn Queen free on Kindle and am wondering how confusing it may be to not have read the first book.

message 2822: by new_user (last edited Jul 26, 2009 04:36PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Willow, it's definitely a sequel rather than a standalone. So I would recommend reading the first book if you want the character's stands until now. There wasn't always a Thorn Queen, LOL.

message 2823: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished Kiss of the Wolf by Morgan Hawke and I'm about to start The Sword by Jean Johnson.

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Thorn Queen Rocked :P I read it straight through in 6 hours.

I can't wait for the next.

Back to Iron Kissed.

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Just read Fanged and Fabulous by Michelle Rowan and was reminded why I like her quirky voice. Sometimes it was a bit too much, but overall, I loved this book. I'm not a huge fan of first person and enjoyed the book anyway. The sign of an excellent author who can get past my preconceived notions about firsdt person!

message 2827: by Stella (new)

Stella (stella_exlibris) | 3 comments I'm reading Broken by Kelley Armstrong, the 6th book in the Women of the Otherworld series. This book is narrated by Elena, the only female werewolf (just like the 1st - Bitten, and 2nd book of the series- Stolen, were). Kelley Armstrong's writing style is brilliant, her characters' dialogue is witty and sarcastically funny, makes me often laugh out loud. However, I ahve to say, I don't think the plot, the mystery of this book is that great or interesting.. but it is a very enjoyable read notwithstanding!

message 2828: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished The Sword and onto The Wolf. These are easy, uncomplicated reads.

message 2829: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Reacherfan,

My thoughts exactly. The best of that series is The Flame. A little more "Conflict" than the others. But yes, easy, uncomplicated reads.

LooLoo | 306 comments Reacherfan wrote: "Finished The Sword and onto The Wolf. These are easy, uncomplicated reads."
Do those books need to be read in order? I have The Wolf and The Master but not The Sword.

message 2831: by Ann (last edited Jul 27, 2009 09:43AM) (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) I finished BlookFever and now I'm reading Moon Called by Patricia Briggs. This is the first of her books that have read and now I'm hooked; I can't wait to read the rest of the Mercy Thompson books.

message 2832: by [deleted user] (new)

I'd compare it with Stephanie Laurens' Cynster series, it helps because the prophesy unfolds in steps. I'll know better when I've read The Wolf and I'll post then.

message 2833: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments LooLoo,

It is better if you read in order. In fact, you may be lost if you don't read the Sword, because so much of the series hinges on information presented in that book. After that, it's not quite as important. To be honest, I read them so far apart at times, I was a little confused later on when references from I think it's book 4 showed up in the last book and I couldn't remember who was who. LOL. My fault though, not the author's.

message 2834: by [deleted user] (new)

looloo - If you're on Paperback Swap, I'll be happy to let you have my copy of The Sword as I have duplicate.

message 2835: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished The Wolf and I'm now have way thru The Master, which is a far better read than the first two books.

message 2836: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Reading Lover Unbound now - I don't know what it is but there's something strangely addictive about this series. I still don't think the sexual tension is as hot as Psy/Changeling but I do have to admit, the brothers are growing on me and seeing other brothers during the main brother's storyline is fun too. Especially John Matthews. With the way she's building him up, his story better be good.

message 2837: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments LOL some were saying yesterday that the BDB series has crack in between the pages, forcing us to continue reading. I think it's funny because alot of her series almost makes FUN of vampires (The kooky names, the smell of baby powder), yet at the same time it's so dark and dangerous. I don't find them very hot. My favorite is still book 2, and due to the change in style she's moving toward, none of the others will probably match up to that. But dont' worry, I'll still keep reading. :)

I'm one of the few people on the planet who don't have a crush on John Matthew. Not sure why that is, but I'm more interested in Thor's book.

message 2838: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments I don't think I've read enough of JM to have a crush on him, lol. I see him as a baby brother of a friend, but so much time is spent on him, he should play an important part to justify the page time. Thor would be really interesting but I don't get the reincarnation thing at all... I'm hoping it'll be explained by the time I finish Rehvenge's story but if not, I'm going to the board on the forum to pitch my confusion because it's beginning to confuse me a lot. But I'll hold out until the end of Rev's story.
God these boys are so cursed.

message 2839: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Hmm, it would be bad business if she did reincarnation - she's already done that with JM, so Tohr's mate shouldn't be a reincarnation of wellsie.

as for JM, he is starting to come across as a whiny self absorbed brat, so I guess I'm missing something there. LOL.

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments Currently reading Blue Moon (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #8) by Laurell K. Hamilton , but as soon as I'm done with that I'm definitely getting back to the brothers and Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward !

Gems can't wait to hear what you think of it... I'm very much anticipating V's story!!! He and Butch are by far my fav's so far!:)

message 2841: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments v is my favorite I loved his story but not his ending.

message 2842: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments It's starting slowly so far but it's still good, there's a lot of story from Butch's end to get through and crap for V to wade through so that's expected, character development and all that.

Teresa, it's JM I'm concerned about via Reincarnation... something there didn't gel right with me but maybe it's explained in later books and it'll make sense. If they're waiting for Wellsie's reincarn, they'd be having to let a few years pass... I dunno. Has their even been a mention of Tohr's story in the pipe line?

her new series is about fallen angels.

Aren't they just? I was thinking that this morning when I did my review of Lover Awakened. I'm reading a contemporary, Bending the Rules & deliberately choose it because I wanted a break from paranormal -- no Vamps, no werewolves, no shifters, no breeds, no
fae -- just regular people. And I'm kinda bored, LOL.

message 2850: by Gems (new)

Gems (zadien) | 134 comments Willow, for some reason regular romance - bar Nora Roberts - won't cut it for me anymore. I just find that the conflict is never that intriguing. It's usually a billionaire playboy falls for modest girl/nurse and she has to get over the fact that he's had loads of lovers... well pooh! They just end up in the sack anyway. Give me different races, end of the world wars, deadly, non-dying enemies and fighting with the romance and I'm a happy girl.

And yeah V always struck me as the coolest of the BDB... or the Cursed Boys - the supernatural version of the Lost boys.
