I loved this series and think the next two books are better than the first. Lots of action!

How did you like this? I've been thinking of buying this and the two books that follow it, but I haven't heard much about them.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I'm not that far into it yet but when I finish I will let you know how it was.

Gena Showalter- The darkest Pleasure, :"Lords of the Underworld series"
I'm really enjoying this series and can say that this is a close second to BDB by JR Ward.

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I finished She's No Faerie Princess and I liked it better than The Wolf at the Door.

I'm currently reading Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh, but I'm having a hard time getting into it.

message 2711: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments I started No Rest for the Wicked (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole last night even though I've got about 70 pages to go on Eyes Like Stars (The Théâtre Illuminata Act 1) by Lisa Mantchev .

I'm kind of confused with No Rest for the Wicked right now. I read A Hunger Like No Other about a year ago and I vaguely remember there being a vampire helping the Valkyries out at the end but I can't remember who. My copy is packed away somewhere so I'm going to have to look at a copy at work. And I also don't like how this book starts with the two characters practically jumping each others' bones before they even know each others' names. I'll keep going with it though because I hated the beginning of A Hunger Like No Other and it ended up getting really good.

IA SNFP was way better than WATD. stopped reading Bloodring to start Magic to the Bone by D. Monk. will finish reading Bloodring later.

I wasn't in the mood for YA last night, so I started Jacob instead. I'm about halfway through and really enjoying it.

message 2714: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) Jael wrote: "I just got this Desire Untamed in the mail ysterday let me know your complete thoughts when u finish."

Jael, I finished Desire Untamed last night. I liked it once I understood why everyone was acting the way they were. I was getting annoyed with all the men in this book being so mean and the heroine such a wuss, but there was a reason for it. The book has an interesting mythology, I think. I do plan on reading the next in the series when it comes out.

I am currently reading Wild Highland Magic

message 2715: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Finished Blue Moon by Alyson Noel and it was sad :( but good. I can't wait for Shadowland.

Now I'm starting Moon Called by Patricia Briggs.

Is the Mercy Thompson series any good? Or am I wasting my time?

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 1020 comments Mod
I ran a poll of favorite Urban Fantasy series in my RRR Challenge group, and Patricia Briggs' Mercy Thompson series is leading the pack with a big margin. Thought that was interesting.

I've read the first 3 books in the series and I enjoyed it quite immensely, so I don't think it's a waste of time.

Btw, here is the link to that thread that I mentioned: http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments Definitely a good series Kyle! I have read all 4 she has released so far and they are great!!! Anxiously awaiting #5 early next year :)

message 2718: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 443 comments Just finished Branded by Fire - there hasn't been a bad book in this series. I really like the way she keeps building and expanding the worlds.

My next paranormal will be Spell of the Highlander after I finish the books I'm in the middle of right now - Kite Runner and Chocolate Chip Murder Mystery

message 2719: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Thanks for letting me know :D Though I'm loving Moon Called so I guess it speaks for it self :P

Off topic: I'm afraid having a job isn't good for me...its gives me money and the last two times I've gone into books a million, and I go in there all the time but didn't have money till recently, I never leave without at least 3 books in hand!! I think I have a problem...lol

message 2720: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Looking at the thread I noticed that Mercy Thompson and Anita Blake are kicking some ass lol

Am I the only one who wished LKH would've just stopped the Merry series at SD so she would go and write maybe a sequel to Nightseer or EVEN a whole new series? Possibly YA. Of all the authors out there I think LKH's YA novel series, if she ever did one, would be really good...well her attempt at YA I don't know if she could ACTUALLY not sway towards the adult elements of her books but who knows :P

message 2721: by Susan (Suz) (new)

Susan (Suz) (sharney) | 253 comments Kyle sounds like you need to join Book Buying Addicts Anonymous in the Who's Your Author Group :) You are definitely not alone!!

YES I too would have been fine if LKH would have stopped Merry series at Swallowing Darkness, altho I am excited about the release of Divine Misdemeanors, but hope she doesn't continue the series much past that! Her Anita Blake series is awesome so far, I'm only through book 7 tho, but I recommend it if you haven't read it yet.....

Yes I think she would be great at YA as well....

The Mercy Thompson series is great. I think you will enjoy it. It isn't quite as juicy as BDB or Laurell K, but the stories leave you wanting more...

message 2723: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I always say my favorite aspect of Mercy Thompson is that she's such a normal girl. She's smart and sensible, loyal, sarcastic...she's the kind of character you could hang out with in the real world. And her relationships feel as though they progress in real-time, making her feel even more genuine. She's so grounded for a supe living in an outrageous world!

I've read all her books except the star trek episode. I love the Anitaverse! Its the series that broke me into PNR. All the way up through Blood Noir so waiting for Skin trade really wasn't bad for me since I read them all in January :D

How did you like the Highlander series? I have the first 5 boos, but haven't had a chance to start them.

message 2726: by BJ Rose (new)

BJ Rose (bjrose) | 443 comments Kelly wrote: "How did you like the Highlander series? I have the first 5 books, but haven't had a chance to start them."

Kelly, I really enjoyed the whole series. There's romance and humor and romance and time-travel and ... (you get the idea!) The 2nd book To Tame a Highland Warrior was the weakest, but it was still a 4* read for me. Best ones were 4,5,6. Since you have the first 5, start from the beginning so you get the whole buildup - the character of Adam Black appears importantly in all of them, and book 6 The Immortal Highlander is his story. I've been tantalizing myself by holding off on 'Spell', but enough is enough!

message 2728: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I've got to get these Highlander books.

Tiffany, that short story is a newer one. It will probably get some page-time in the new book, Bad Moon Rising, which comes out in August. But read the rest of the series if you haven't yet!

message 2729: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I just finished Moon Called by Patricia Briggs and lets just say I'm pissed the library is closed because I can't go get blood bound :(

Well, since I'm a fast reader, I want another book to read before going to get blood bound tomorrow. Should I read Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr or Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison?

message 2730: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments Kyle wrote: "Should I read Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr or Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison? "

Wicked Lovely. I absolutely can't stand the Kim Harrison series. I got through the first two books and gave up on it. But that's just my opinion. Ha. I loved Wicked Lovely though. Great book.

message 2731: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Thanks Shannon :D I have heard other people not liking Kim Harrison too but I wanted to give her a shot.

Kim Harrison and Christine Feehan seem to be pretty serious hits or misses with people :P

I'm about half way through. It's light reading. Some good lines. I haven't decided if I like it enough to read the sequel yet though.

message 2736: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jnhart) Just finished book #2 in the Mercy Thompson series - Blood Bound. It was really good. I'm waiting on #3 (Iron Kissed) from the library. From the title, I'm thinking it might have to do more with the fae this time. Can't wait!

I never even made more than half way through this. I was so disappointed. The story was all over the place and I was frustrated so I never finished it. It would have been good had the editor worked a little harder.

message 2739: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (theholyterror) | 313 comments So I decided to try something new in order to try to finish up the July Challenge. On top of Skin Trade and No Rest for the Wicked, I also started:

[image error] An Ice Cold Grave (Harper Connelly Mystery, #3) by Charlaine Harris Stardoc (Stardoc, #1) by S.L. Viehl Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong

I figured I'd at least read the first chapters of every book and continue on with the one that held my interest the most. Looks like Succubus On Top won that contest since I read 3 times as many pages! But I have to say that so far they've all caught my attention and I'm excited to finish them.

message 2740: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Yeah so um...I TORE through Wicked Lovely and 6 hours later am now on Ink Exchange :P

I'm going to go to bed though and just start reading it later tonight. I could NOT put Wicked Lovely down. Melissa Marr is definitly up there as one of my favorite authors, or at least she's had a great start.

message 2742: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I just finished Wild Highland Magic. It is my favorite of the three. Bastian is great.

I am now reading Naamah's Kiss and absolutely loving it.

Kim | 57 comments I just finished Once Bitten, Twice Shy and Another One Bites the Dust, by Jennifer Rardin, and am in the middle of Biting the Bullet (#3)...Can't wait for the next installments- Jaz Parks & V have me hooked. They're definitely near, if not at the top, of my list of favorite characters.

message 2745: by Ann (new)

Ann Noell (fantasyannie) I have not been reading Paranormal and I have fallen behind on my July challenge (sighing) but I'm starting
BloodFever by Karen Marie Moning today; to many books not enough time lol.....

message 2746: by Laura (new)

Laura | 3 comments Finally finished The Accidental Demon Slayer. I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped. It was kinda scattered. Character development seemed too fast for the slayer. Hard to follow some scenes. Found myself having to flip back and re read to make sense out of some of them.

message 2747: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I am still reading Naamah's Kiss, but also started In the Blood because I discovered it is due back at the library tomorrow. I am only a few chapters in and it is hard to put down.

message 2748: by Kyle (new)

Kyle Borland (kgborland) Finished Ink Exchange yesterday and now I'm on to Fragile Eternity by Melissa Marr. I have to stop reading series so fast or I'm going to run out of books that I like :P

message 2749: by The Flooze (new)
