Sue | 43 comments I am on to the next Glory book Real Vampires Don't Diet (Glory St. Claire, Book 4) by Gerry Bartlett Absolutely love this series, it's a fun read.

message 2552: by Nita (new)

Nita (gillnit) I am still reading Kushiel's Justice, but have also started Skin Trade. I am enjoying it, but hope Anita stays in St. Louis for the next book.

My daughter read that book and really liked. I started it awhile back but have to pick it back up again.

I am currently reading Lady of and Shadows by C. L. Wilson. It is a good book :)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Nita, I think all of us are hoping she stays home so we can see her with the local men, the triumverates, etc. I liked Skin Trade, but the ending is very sudden.

I'm just starting Something from the Nightside.

I don't usually like short stories, but this one I thought worked really well. It cut out all the drama and just gave the essentials - I liked it.

You'll will probably get hooked on this series! I did!!! A friend kept telling me to read them, you won't be disappointed.

message 2557: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Oh we all started with Dark Lover just to "see what it was about" well didn't take long for me get hooked...totally... now i've read (nearly) everything The Warden has written, just a couple of Jessica Birds that i can't get easily in the UK:(::

message 2558: by Clerah (new)

Clerah I'm just now starting Nalini Singh's Angels' Blood. I've been looking forward to reading this for a while, and am just now making the time to ready it for the July reading challenge.

message 2559: by Starling (new)

Starling cheri, when I look at reviews at Amazon I always take a look at the one and two star reviews. There was one case where I actually bought a book on exercising that was perfect for me BECAUSE someone reviewed it as a one star because it wasn't for beginners. She did such a good job of explaining why she didn't like the book that I knew it would be perfect and it was.

But for fiction, reviews like the one you quoted are pretty useless. An I especially dislike the one star and 5 star reviews on anything Hamilton writes because both sets of reviews are useless and generally written by people how have not read the book.

I hadn't read any of Nalini Singh books before this one. i really enjoyed it. Hope you do to.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments Really enjoying Dark Lover, a lot of interesting characters. Zsadist intrigues me from the little I've read of him and Wrath is quite sweet in a strange kind of way.

I'm a big fan of Singh's Psy/Changeling series. I'm waiting for the library to send me Angel's Blood.

message 2563: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne I have Psy/Changling books on my TBR shelf. Im really looking forward to reading them.

Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 1020 comments Mod
You should read them. The first book is Slave to Sensation. Don't let the cheesy pink cover repel you...LOL ... There is a great story inside

message 2565: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Cheesy cover.....no problem lol. I need to keep my eyes open for a copy b/c our library had no Nalini Singh books in their catalogue.

message 2566: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) The whole series makes me blush a little at the library cover-wise, but it's worth it. In fact, I'm going to pick up Mine to Possess today! Wahoo!

message 2567: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL. Just imagine picking up the BDB series at the library. xD And then of course I had overdues and of course my friend had to pick up the receipt and study the titles, LOL. Son of a beeech.

message 2568: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Dark Lover was not only my very first PNR, but my first romance in general, and I was very self-conscious about picking that one up from the library.

message 2569: by Alycia (new)

Alycia I just finished the Black Dagger Brotherhood Insiders' Guide, specifically I finished the novella "Father Mine." It was definitely the best part of the book. I just started reading Accidentally Dead by Dakota Cassidy.

message 2570: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Re covers/titles of books, one librarian always gets over giggly andasks what the story is about whilst the other will say "Yes ,Adrienne your copy of Menage/BlackLace etc is here" in what seems like the loudest voice she can manage and usually when there a line of men waiting for books or computers. OMG I just want the ground to open up and swallow me lol.

message 2571: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments LOL, Adrienne! Those librarians sometimes...

Starling Michele said: Nita, I think all of us are hoping she stays home so we can see her with the local men, the triumverates, etc. I liked Skin Trade, but the ending is very sudden.

I've got this funny feeling that the ending is not the ending of the "Mommy Dearest" part of the plot. I think there will be more to come on that in the next book.

message 2573: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 208 comments I started reading Guilty Pleasures

message 2574: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Hope you enjoy it, Lauren!

Starling, I agree. I think we'll be seeing her again. It's more that everything was wrapped up in less than 50 pages. Felt rushed! I've heard it was supposed to have been a 1000 page book. If that's true, it suffered in the editing process.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Okay, I'm going to go and read a few romance titles this weekend, as I've just gotten caught up with Rachel Vincent's Shifter series with Prey and Richelle Mead's Georgina Kinkaid series with Succubus Heat. Two of my favorite series, but I'm feeling emotionally drained and need an HEA. Heading off to my spa weekend with a few titles including J.R. Ward's alter-ego Jessica Bird An Unforgettable Lady and Nalini Singh's Slave to Sensation

message 2576: by Willow (new)

Willow Brook | 47 comments Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors and an autobuy. I have her next two Psy-Changeling books on pre-order for my Kindle. I was so disappointed when she put out Angel's Blood because I love the series so much and it seemed like a very unneeded interruption. Angel's Blood was more Urban Fantasy than I like and told in first person, yet I ended up totally enjoying it and am now looking forward to the next in the series. As long as it doesn't slow her up too much in writing the Psy-Changelings books, LOL. She's just a very talented writer.

My library is very discreet about books that have been reserved. They no longer even leave the title on my answering machine so now my dogs don't need to be scandalized by my reading choices. When the messages did include the book's title, it seemed the guy librarian was always the one who called when it was a romance. He always had this very dry delivery as he left the name of some goofy title.

message 2578: by Adrienne (last edited Jul 03, 2009 07:55AM) (new)

Adrienne Okay I bought Slave to Sensation and Witch Blood to-day. i haveWhen Darkness Comes on the go and Untouched however i don't do multi tasking very well and need to concentrate on just one book....but which one. oh dilemas!!

message 2579: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I'm really lucky to have an awesome library system. Not only do they have a fantastic selection, but they're pretty good at being discreet. They never comment about my books or even seem to really look at them, they just check me out and tell me when they're due. And they don't call to tell me when something's ready, I just get an automated e-mail. They even have an option where you can create a fake name to hold your books under to protect your privacy. It's pretty cool. I've mostly gotten over any anxiety about checking out racy titles.

message 2580: by Willow (new)

Willow Brook | 47 comments That is so cool, Nichole. For the most part, I don't really want to discuss the books I'm taking out with the librarian any more than I want to discuss the food I'm buying with the cashier.

message 2581: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) | 217 comments I am so happy my library switched to a self check out system. I dont even have to talk to anyone. I choose most my books online, reserve them, then I get an email when they are in, they are on a shelf, I get them and check them out myself. very private. Nice when I am going the erotica route. What do you say when your title is "Bind me tighter" (made up of compilation of certian books I check out) with a nice picture just in case the title wasnt clear enough.

Yea I am glad they switched to auto check out.

message 2582: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Wow, that's awesome guys. Pseudonyms and self-checkout. Ours barely uses technology, it's ridiculous. Why not automate everything and save money?

message 2583: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne We have an automated service the Town Library but ours is village one, I'm being generous now because I think the staff are just trying to be friendly....the giggly one makes me laugh they had the fire service in for the kids reading challange and she was such a flirt with the firemen! I always choose my books on line but they keep them behind the desk for you to collect usually just labelled with your name. Most of the books i self order are erotica and of course the staff have to stamp them. I normally just grab the books and hight tail it thru the door lol.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I just started going to the LIB again and like Nicholes they never pay attention to the book it's the ladies at my job that see the titles and then start blushing. I usually try to put my book up before I do my med run but sometimes I forget and leave it on the desk. One nurse I have corrupted and she loves the raunchiness especially my Highlander books. LOL

message 2585: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I think my library system was actually picked "best library of 2008" (or possibly 2007...) by some big library association or something.
The big library in downtown Salt Lake has the self checkout and it's so space age - you don't even have to scan the bar code. You just set the book on the counter and it knows which book it is. It's really cool. I marvel at it every time.

message 2586: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne Our town self check out is the same ! How does it read the titles? when all the books are just stacked in pile....does your's sometimes miss a book ?I've only ever used it a couple of times b/c we don't use the town library that often. But i is a good idea.

message 2587: by Lily (new)

Lily (lilithesque) | 217 comments Mine is that way (pile reading) too. Yes, sometimes it misses one but I just re-scan it, or go to the librarian who sits a little way from the self check station (ten or so scanner stations) and the line is usually very short and they can clear things up quick.

Pretty much the only time I need them is when I do intgerlibrary loan. They need to be checked out in person. Thats maybe one in 40 books I get.

I can even pay fines online or at the selfhelp stations.

lily

message 2588: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Oh, I never tried to set the whole pile on, I always do it one by one. Wow, the magic just keeps getting more magical.

Ruth Violet | 20 comments right now i am reading dark Lover-J.R. Ward. it is really good. just started it.

message 2590: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 449 comments I don't think I'd like a self checkout library. I've gotten to know the librarians and they will tell me when something new that I might like has come in. Also, a couple of times they have purcahsed a book that I was looking for when the library didn't have it.

I finished Demon Mistress last night and started A Whisper of Eternity.

message 2591: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Well, at my library you can suggest purchases online and most automated systems still have librarians for good measure, LOL.

I used to feel like that b/c sometimes it so nice to chat about books etc...however, the staff say that where the check-out is automated they can spend more time with their readers doing just that and they still need two librarains for safety reasons so no-one is being pushed out of a job. At out Town Library you have to self check-out.

message 2595: by Starling (new)

Starling We don't have self checkout. We do have some technology including a pretty good website attached to their system. You can order books if they are in the system, but only if they are out. Not if they are on the shelves. You can renew books that can be renewed online as well.

Actually I'd like more automation, not less. Sometimes I need to get some business done, like ILL paperwork, and I feel guilty if there is a line behind me.
