calicheri | 39 comments Recently finished Into the Shadow by Christina Dodd. It's the one about Arick the brother they thought had died. It was good, I just wish there had been more of the brother's reunion. Can't wait for the next one now.

new_user | 1389 comments I'm currently reading Lynn Viehl's latest book in her Darkyn series (Templar knights-cum-vampires-cum-a rich and sophisticated secret). Love her! All her characters each have their own story and power and a fast-moving plot with nitty gritty and romance, lol. I think that describes them in a nutshell. She's keeping me on tenterhooks waiting for her to write about my favorite characters though! ><

message 203: by Gina (new)

Gina (ginrobi) | 137 comments Currently reading The Darkest Kiss by Gena Showalter.

Murrrmaiyd, I don't know if you know, but Shannon Drake is a pseudonym for Heather Graham. The series continues after Dead by Dusk with Kiss of Darkness and Blood Red by Heather Graham. Let me know how you like the series!

message 204: by Murrrmaiyd (new)

Murrrmaiyd | 25 comments I did know that it was a pseudonym for Heather Graham (mostly because I looked it up online a while ago to see what order to read them in...lol) but I didn't know the story continued!! Those are now on my to-buy list! :)

I like it so far, I finished "Realm of Shadows" the other day and loved the different direction that one ended up going in. :) I keep trying to start the next, "The Awakening", but keep getting interrupted, so I'm only like one chapter into it so far. :P

message 205: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) About to start on Dante's Girl by Natasha Rhodes. Sounds good. The cover is very attractive. Let's just hope I feel the same about the contents.

message 206: by new_user (last edited Jul 28, 2008 12:17AM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Oh, Cheri, I just noticed you mentioned Into the Shadows. I just recently finished that one myself. I love that series. I was so glad to hear that she branched into paranormal, and the premise of those books is pretty unique too with the Russian history and all. I have to give her a lot of props for not falling back on the traditional were legends, etc. and I really like the different shifters. She fits them into the same pattern and background, but there's more variety than just wolf, for example (not that I don't love the wolfies). I don't know if I believe Adrik's transformation, but it was a good read. The ending was so unexpected! Looking forward to the next!

Now reading Lara Adrian's first book since I've heard so much about her, lol. We'll see how that goes. :)

message 207: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Sizemore (sandy_lee) | 6 comments Im reading Goddess of the Light by, PC Cast. Im only on chapter 3 but it is a good book so far.

I just started Forbidden Magic by Cheyenne McCray's witches series, and is finishing listening to Valley of Silence from Nora Robert's Circle trilogy, which I recommend to anybody who is interested.

It's about a circle of six unique individuals, chosen by the gods to fight the evil vampire queen and save the world.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) I'm Just starting Darkest Pleasure by Showalter( it finally arrived after being lost in the mail ) I'm also reading books 1-2 in the Rachel Morgan series but having a hard time finishing Dead Witch Walking. I'll be finishing those two once I read Darest Pleasure( I hate not finishing books that I've bought)

message 210: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments I have read Shannon Drake's series, and liked the first five books. The Awakening was disappointing. It was rather boring, and very slow, at least that's what I thought.

message 211: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) I'm reading Nightlife by Rob Thurman. Dante's Girl was moving too slow for me.

message 212: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments Reading Staked by J F Lewis. Really good so far. Thanks for the recommendation, Ranata! :D

message 213: by Jessie (new)

Jessie | 128 comments Just finished One Foot in the Grave and going to start the Historian soon!

message 214: by calicheri (new)

calicheri | 39 comments New user, I liked shadows a lot, I'm impatient for the next one now. I'm glad we don't have to wait a year for it!
Who is your favorite character in Viehl's books? Did you hear that the Robin Hood is going to be the last in the series? I hope that he's your favorite character.

message 215: by new_user (last edited Jul 30, 2008 01:59PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yeah, me too, I'm really looking forward to Into the Flame. Only a few more days! Yep, I heard about the last book. I'm sure his book will be great, but actually, I was more interested in Guy in Evermore. xD My favorite characters are Lucan and Jaus. I like John too. I was hoping that Richard or Korvel would be getting a book, but ah, well. At least John will be in the next book. That last ending was a shocker. Her new series will doubtless be great too (it's apparently based around the Darkyn universe but unique; tantalizing, lol).

I'm now reading Teasing Danger by Autumn Dawn and really liking it. I hope this author gets more attention. :)

message 216: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (shigyrl30) I just started reading Dead Perfect by Amanda Ashley, I came across her book when I was looking for something to read.

message 217: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments I've been dying for a Darkyn book starring Korvel! He's my favorite, but they've all been good so far. I was glad that Jaus finally got his story resolved. I think Evermore has been my favorite so far. I really like Jayr.

Just finished Dark Fire by Christine Feehan, which for me was just okay. Still working on Cheyenne McCray's Forbidden Magic, and just started listening to LKH's Blood Noir.

message 219: by Kim (new)

Kim | 57 comments I just finished Wolf at the Door by Christine Warren. It's the first book of hers that I've read, but am putting her others on my TBR shelf, especially since this wasn't really first in the series...

message 220: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Welcome, Jess! =D

message 221: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Jessie, tell me how the Historian is! I'm thinking about reading it sooner or later!

message 222: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mlhiggins84) I just started Deja Demon by Julie Kenner. It's the fourth book in the Demon Hunting Soccer Mom series.

message 223: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) lol @ demon hunting soccer mom. i have got to read the back of this book.

message 224: by Morgan (new)

Morgan (mlhiggins84) The first book is Carpe Demon and it was a pleasant surprise. It's pretty funny with her trying to balance play dates for her toddler and getting rid of the demon corpse she had to hide in the garage before her husband comes home for dinner.

message 225: by LilMisGrayBrisk (new)

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I'm almost finished reading Heart of the Dragon by Gena Showalter. It's about a woman looking for her brother in the Amazon and she accidentally stumbles into Atlantis. There's a guardian who is supposed to kill all who enter, but he cannot seem to kill her. There are humans who are invading as well and he needs her help to defeat them. It's a cute story.

message 226: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments Finished Staked last night (awesome) and started Halfway to the Grave. I think I'll just stalk Ranata's reading lists from now on. ;)

message 227: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) *blushing* awww! I pick some duds sometimes, trust me. LOl

I'm glad you thought Staked was awesome.

You will absolutely become OBSESSED with Halfway to the Grave once you finish. Trust me, I turned a few people on to that when I wasn't trying to read it because it was in the romance section of the Borders I go to! One of my favorite series. Enjoy the ride!

message 228: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments Ranata, I'm about halfway through Halfway now. My only complaint so far is that the English phrases are overused (I don't need to be reminded he's English ALL the time). It doesn't feel natural. Other than that, I'm loving it. A great story with great characters.

message 229: by calicheri (new)

calicheri | 39 comments I just finished Timeless Moon by CT Adams and Cathy Clamp and Turbulant Sea by C. Feehan.
I liked Timeless Moon more than I thought I would. I wasn't that interested in the main character, but it turned out to be a "reunion" type book and I love those. I liked Turbulant Sea,I've always liked Joley and it was a good story.

message 230: by LilMisGrayBrisk (last edited Aug 03, 2008 05:49AM) (new)

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I finished Feast of Fools by Rachel Caine and it was really good. Sort of a cliffhanger ending as usual. I'm going to start reading Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank today.

message 231: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Okay - I am finally reading Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. I had lent my book out to a few people way back when it was released and once I got it back I kept putting it off. Everyone was telling me how disappointed they were and I'd plug my ears so they wouldn't spoil any thing for me. I figured I'd wait until it was closer to the release of the fourth book so I wouldn't have to wait so long. Well, of course, here the fourth book is out and I haven't finished book 3! Luckily, I love everyone in Forks and it is going fast. Soon, I will be able to read all the Twilight threads I've been avoiding.

message 232: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 25, 2009 02:15AM) (new)

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments I just started Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. It couldn't have released soon enough. Nothing like waiting an entire year for a book to whet your appetite for it. Hopefully the conclusion to the Twilight saga will live up to the considerable expectations that I have for it.

I won an ARC of Ann Aguirre's Wanderlust, so I had to run out and buy Grimspace so I'd know what the heck is going on in the new book. :D I'm really liking it so far. I'm also re-reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

message 234: by new_user (last edited Aug 04, 2008 08:44PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Just finished Cry Wolf! I love Patricia Briggs, I think I like this series better than her Mercy one. It's all about the wolves, as you may guess from the title, lol.

message 235: by Sara (new)

Sara Brookes (sarabrookes) TDF, I stumbled across Grimspace a while back and was really surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Been waiting patiently for Wanderlust at the end of the month - congrats on the ARC!

message 236: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments I briefly set One Foot in the Grave aside to read Breaking Dawn before I got spoiled.

message 237: by pianogal (new)

pianogal | 31 comments I just finished reading the "Warprize" series (Warprize, Warsworn, Warlord) by Elizabeth Vaughan. It leans a little more towards fantasy than PNR, but there is some magic involved. I really enjoyed all three books.

message 238: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments hi, new to the group. wanted to say hello, and i just started reading The Darkest Night by Gena Showalter. I've been going through the threads of the Twilight Series, and sadly I'm on a waiting list to get the book from my local library. I'm number 160 of 177.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Michelle-LOL wow 160 of 177 that's sad I was actually lucky with that series because my libraray had Twilight and Eclipse( I thought this was the second book) so i read them but when I went to get New Moon I ended up on a waiting list as well. I eventually just went out and bought New Moon.

I'm currently putting to the side Kitty takes Washington to read the two books from my BooksFree account. One is Bridget Jones( I absoulutely loved the movie and had to read this book) and Stray by Rachel Vincent( I accidentally picked up Rogue at walmarts thinking it was the first in the series)

message 240: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'll finish Breaking Dawn tonight and just got home from Border's with 4 new books. No sure which one to start next. Some of these may be more Urban Fantasy but each one is the first in a series that came highly recommended. Guilty Pleasures, Laurell K. Hamilton, Dead Witch Walking, Kim Harrison, Dead Until Dark, Charlaine Harris & A Great and Terrible Beauty, Libba Bray. Decisions, decisions!!!

message 241: by Ranata (new)

Ranata Clark (thatchicknata) Dead Until Dark! I personally couldn't get into Dead Witch Walking and I did put Guilty Pleasures down but I picked it back up and loved it.

message 242: by new_user (last edited Aug 07, 2008 09:13PM) (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Lol, Michelle, your patience is admirable. You know, I keep accruing so many overdues at the library, I'm beginning to think that I should just join up with BooksFree and have done with it, lol. How are you liking yours, Jael? I noticed that some of the newer books are not available. Is there a way to request/order what they don't have?

Now reading CL Wilson's Fading Lands (and I'm liking it so far), thanks to Fangirl's reccomendation. :D

message 243: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 3 comments Trying out Michelle Bardsley's 'I'm a vampire, that's why' at the mo'. Reminds me of MJD in it's light-heartedness - but definitely told from the pov of a mom! I'm enjoying it, although I don't personally identify with the whole being a parent (of humans in this context, no less) thing.

message 244: by Amie (new)

Amie (amiestuart) | 44 comments Annette let me know if you like them!

message 245: by Amie (new)

Amie (amiestuart) | 44 comments Jael....I love Kitty! I just finished Kitty and the Silver Bullet. Probably her best yet!

/gush LOL

message 246: by Jess (new)

Jess (jessartisan) | 26 comments I'm reading Patricia Briggs's Alpha and Omega in On the Prowl so I can read Cry Wolf.

message 247: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 2 comments yeah, Jael, the 160 of 177 is the list JUST for the new one Breaking Dawn. I own the first two, Twighlight and New Moon, and Eclipse I had to wait for as well at my local library, though the list wasn't quite as long. I might cave in and just go buy the book. The list for the 3 previous books is way over 300 now. And her other new one, the Host, I'm not even going to try and get on the waiting list. Can anyone tell me what booksfree is? I saw a few people speak of it in the posts.

message 248: by Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (last edited Aug 08, 2008 10:03AM) (new)

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Michelle- Booksfree is a book rentl service like netflix . You sign up with a monthly plan and then you build up a list of books you'd like to read they immediatey ship the first two on your list. Once you read them and return them they send out the next books on your list. I think it's a great service since I racked up $50 in late fees from my library. I could never find the time to return them.(LOL some people think it's idiotic to pay for a service like BF when there are libraries eveywhere.)
Shipping is free and it saves me money on buying books. I have the 4 @ a time plan which is $15.99 compared to when I bought three Paperbacks that rang up $22 dollars.

New_User the reason why some of the newer books may not be in their system is because it's probably not in Paperback yet. They do have some new books like Viehls newest and Gena's Lords. I enjoying the service they are very good only complaint is that it takes a while for books to be recieved and shipped( not my complaint but other memeber are ranting about it on the forum boards.) Usually for me it takes three days for them to recieve my books and shipp my next books whichI recieve around three to five days. You can request books that you want to read as long as there in paperback or audiobooks(if you have that plan)

message 249: by Beth F (new)

Beth F I can’t remember if I’ve ever posted anything to this group or not. If so, ignore my greeting. If not, hi! My name is Beth. I’m 29, a newlywed, and I work in a cubical. I enjoy reading a lot of different things and am relatively new to this particular genre, having just “discovered” it within the past 12-18 months.

Right now I’m working my way through J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. I’ve read the first two and despite having some complaints (I always do), I’m intrigued and can’t wait for the third installment.

I also use booksfree.com and think it’s a fantastic idea. I’ve been a netflix.com customer since 2003 and would probably develop a serious case of hives and would have difficulty breathing if they ever went under. Total junkie!!! So when I heard about booksfree, I knew I had to try it.

I signed up for the 4 at a time option a few months ago. It can be slow sometimes, but most of the books I add to my list on that site are books I’m not frantic to read, so it hasn’t bothered me. I have more TBR books than I care to admit on my bookshelf at home, so it’s not like I’m ever lacking for anything to read. I usually receive my books within 3 days of shipment from the booksfree facility. Although I’ve found that returning them takes quite a bit longer, usually a week. Their facility is in Virginia, so I would assume that people who are closer would have faster service and people who are farther away would have slower service (I’m in Minnesota, so, sort of in the middle of the country).

As for this Stephenie Meyer craze running through goodreads, I’m still on the library waiting list for the third book, New Moon. I’ve been on my library’s wait list for the past couple months, so GO FREAKING FIGURE that my time came up last week when I was on my honeymoon. I had to pick it up by July 30 and we didn’t get back until August 5 so it ended up going to whoever was in line after me. So now I’m back at square one with that one, heh. I didn’t love the first two books so don’t want to go out and buy them, but am a little miffed about having to wait!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Beth- Why don't you add them to your BF list?
