Cheryl (cheryllaflammegmailcom) | 44 comments new_user give me the name of the book you enjoyed. I saw a couple of her books at the library sale today but did not pick any up. I figured if you enjoyed it , I should give it a go.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Cheryl, it's Derik's Bane. If they have one of the Royals, you should try that too!

message 2303: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Cheryl, the first one is in Secrets, Vol. 6; second is in Secrets, Vol. 8. Last is Derik's Bane. But, imho, you can probably do with just the first, LOL. That's the best one. ;)

message 2304: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments new_user, is that Michael and Jeannie in the elevator! I keep hearing about that damn story but have yet to read it! They're in the last two Betsy books too.

message 2305: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments That's them! LOL. I had no idea they reappeared in other series. Huh.

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ (wwwgoodreadscomprofilejael) Ikve read the HON series up to book 3 and have a real love hate relationship with them. I really don't know why I continue reading them.

I have a weird relationship with that series. I can't stand the protagonist (narrow minded, judgmental, holier than though...), but I like the other characters and the overall storyline, so I keep reading. I think maybe I'm just hoping that one of these times Zoe's going to get what's coming to her. LOL

Melissa Michelle M. wrote: "I actually found it kind of refreshing that the Mercy Thompson series had the relationship progress in "real time." It's one of the reasons I love the series. It doesn't fall into the formulaic wit..."

Exactly! I completely agree. This is my favorite series for these reasons.

Lori (moderatrixlori) Michelle M. wrote: "Oh, Lori. You are so not an Urban Fantasy girl. LOL!"

You're probably right Michelle. I'll just stick to my M/M UF...now there's some hot sex :)

Seriously though, there is some UF that has sex that works in the context of the story. A Rush of Wings was great and I love the Night Huntress Series. I don't think UF should focus on sex, it's not romance or erotica after all, but I don't think it has to be totally devoid of it either. It's the interpersonal relationships that draw me into a story just as much as the action and adventure.

But, I am a perv...I get that :)

message 2310: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Well, I love a good sex scene as much as the next girl, but I think it's refreshing to read something without sex every once in awhile. And I know there are a lot of people out there who don't like sex in their books at all, so it's good that there's a series out there that can welcome those people into the urban fantasy fold. Everybody likes different things, and it's good to have something out there for everyone. I too have found myself frustrated with the Mercy books at times because I want the satisfaction of that culminating scene, but at the same time I won't say I wish Briggs would put more sex in her books, because I like that the series is available. I finally have something that I really enjoyed that I can recommend to my more conservative friends and family members.

message 2311: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments I totally agree Nichole. And even if they started with sex now, it would seem so natural and just be an understandable next part of the story.

On the OTHER hand! I've been reading some of the Jaz Parks series and THAT relationship just seems bizarre. I've only read up to book 3 and I cannot figure out what people like about Jaz and Vayl. They're attracted to one another, yet so conflicted and locked in their own neuroses that they're confusing! Now THAT'S a couple that really just needs to get some booty.

Kyle Borland (kgborland) I just finished Marked by P.C. Cast. Is it normal to hate the main character in this series?

Malice (LadyMalice) | 35 comments I just finished the 2nd Aisling Grey, Guardian novel(by Katie Macalister). I am addicted to this series. It's funny, and reminds me a lot of the Sookie novels in the way it's written. Not overly sexual, good plots. I'm enjoying them. And no vampires! lol 1st non-vamp romance I have enjoyed ;)

I started to read the 1st book of this series and couldn't get into it. I am thinking of picking it back up, but haven't done so yet since I have soooo many books to read. Did you find the beginning hard too or did you like it right away?

message 2316: by Leana (new)

Leana (craftychick) | 44 comments I am currently reading a novella called Faeries Gone Wild by MaryJanice Davidson, Lis Greiman, Michele Hauf and Leandra Logan. I'm on the 1st story by MJD. It's pretty funny. Interesting take on the fey for sure.

I am also reading The Awakening by Kelly Armstrong. This is a YA novel and sequal to The Summoning. It is really good so far. I really liked the 1st one so was excited to read this one and haven't been disapointed thus far.

And I am also reading The Minion by L.A. Banks. I keep seeing comments on here about it, so I figured it was time to start it. It is freakin strange so far, I will tell you. But I can't put it down! I am addicted to the odd for sure!

I have a little (O.K., a lot) reading O.C.D. right now. I can't have one book hold my attention too long. I get bored and then have to read something else. I do this a lot but more so lately. Then I usually end up reading the one book I like the most and stick with it until the end, and then go back to whatever else I was also reading at the same time. I know, I have issues :).

It did take me a little bit to get hooked into the first book. I really didn't think I was going to enjoy it at first, but once the plot started to unfold I couldn't put it down.

Nifferness | 33 comments I finished reading A Girls Guide to Vampires Friday night and I haven't been to the library yet...I'm going insane. I suppose I could do my studying, final exam this week and all but darnit...I want some lusty vampire action. Darn it all to heck.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Kyle wrote: "I just finished Marked by P.C. Cast. Is it normal to hate the main character in this series?"

If it isn't, then we're both weird. I posted somewhere else that I like the other characters and the overall storyline, but I hate Zoe! Normally that would be enough to put me off the series all together, but I'm obviously a glutton for punishment, as I've bought and read every one. I'm waiting for all of the men in her life and her friends to wake up and ditch her. ;)

I am totally right there with both of you! I know teenagers are supposed to have a hard time making up their minds and dealing with problems, but come on!!!!! Zoe, you have got to get a back bone and some self confidence! You are the shit so start acting like it! I love Aphrodite for that reason! She has so much more personality!
I actually love the series (excluding the last book) so I hope you do too. Even with Zoe, the series is still really good, I promise. And the next few books are a lot better than the 1st. Hope you like it!

message 2323: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Just finished Last Scene Alive by Charlaine Harris. Great installment of her Aurora Teagarden mystery series.

Now I'm going to start rereading the Sookie books in preparation to read Dead and Gone. I can't believe I've managed to hold off reading it this long!

I finished reading a hard SF novel, The Forever War by Joe Haldeman, the other day. And now I'm reading my Calvin & Hobbes collections, because damn, that was a bleak book. I need some fluff.

message 2325: by Sue (new)

Sue | 43 comments Just started "Undead and Unwelcome" at home and I am reading "Real Vampires Get Lucky" by Gerry Barlett, I believe it's the 3rd book in the Glory St Clair series. Fun stuff. I don't feel like being serious right now. I will probably pick up where I left off on the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter Books, I think I am on "Micah".

message 2326: by Nifferness (new)

Nifferness | 33 comments I've given in to my curiousity and started reading Dark Lover. It's pretty good so far, I could do without the names she chose but whatever.

Rhage??? Really? Thank goodness these men ooze the sexiness I require in a vamp :)

message 2327: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Nifferness, the spelling on the names are the only reason I haven't tried BDB yet. I still intend to, but I think of those spellings and an involuntary rage wells up within me. Or Rhage, rather. Sigh.

message 2328: by Barbara ★ (new)

Barbara ★ Just finished Dead To Me by Anton Strout. This is an urban fantasy/mystery novel that twists and turns, just when you think you know where it's going, it changes. Totally bizarre book but also really hard to put down.

Mrs. Ward gets oodles and oodles of points though for not inducing my gag reflex in her "sex" scenes. They're tame, but she didn't once use manhood so major props.

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments I just started my first Kresley Cole book, A Hunger Like No Other. I'm only a couple of chapters in, so it's too soon to give an opinion.

Just started The Immortal Highlander

Ruth Violet | 20 comments right now i am reading the immortal hunter-lynsay sands. it is awesome. i love all of her argeneau book. and now she is writing about the vampire council hunters and how they track down the rogue vampires and how they end finding their life mate. but they are so awesome. and i am also reading first blood it is anthology. but it is awesome as well.

message 2334: by Melissa (new)

Melissa Finally going to start Breaking Dawn. I've put it off because I'd heard too many mixed reviews so it killed my excitement. My 11 year old daughter has read the first three books in just over a week and she wants to read this one now. I need to read it first though for content so she's putting the pressure on me to hurry up!

ok, I have a confession: The names are the only reason I haven't started the BDB books, as well. Maybe I'm being superficial, but...can't do it. They're hopelessly sitting on my TBR shelf...

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Kim wrote: "ok, I have a confession: The names are the only reason I haven't started the BDB books, as well. Maybe I'm being superficial, but...can't do it. They're hopelessly sitting on my TBR shelf..."

LOL, I appreciate that, I really do. There are books I've bought because they were highly recommended, but that I haven't brought myself to read yet because of the horrible covers. However, I must say that I don't even notice their names in BDB anymore (except for my continual belief that Vishous and Zsadist have each other's names). It's a brilliant, brilliant series though, so if you can get past the names I think you might really enjoy them. ;)

message 2338: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Kim, I know people love them. The first is sitting on my TBR list too. Some day I shall cave. Some day. But I also read some of her writing excerpts on her web site and I wasn't automatically intrigued.

Sara (leelan) | 3 comments YALL! For real get over the spellings of their names and read the books. They are great! I also felt that way at first and was like "this is LAME!" however by book 2 you don't care, the only thing that sucks is that you can't make these guys real! LOL!

Here here! Cave guys, for real. You won't regret it.

DarkHeart - how's A Hunger Like No Other going for you? I know a lot of people really liked that book. I had a hard time with it, and nearly quit after the first 60 pages because I pretty much hated it. So if you're kind of in the same boat I was, I have to encourage you to keep going. The book gets better, but the books after it are SOOOOO great. It's worth it to get through HLNO to get to the rest of the series.

I actually don't mind the spellings. I LOVE these books and I'm only on the second one. Really wish we could make them real. :D

Yeah, it's not too hard to get past once you're involved. I think we all had our eye roll moments in book one, but by book two that's just what their names are and it doesn't really matter anymore.

message 2347: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I actually thought the names were kind of clever. I also think it's funny how most of the non-brother characters have such pedestrian names. Butch, Jane, Mary, Beth, etc...

message 2348: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments That's quite a contrast!

message 2349: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne the names never bothered me::i think its what makes the series slightly different::warrior vampires from the old country need warrior old country type names::modern anglicized names just wouldn't cut the mustard for me::

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments Nichole wrote: "DarkHeart - how's A Hunger Like No Other going for you?..."

So far, so good, although I'll admit I haven't made a whole lot of progress. I like the whole werewolf who finds his mate in a vampire, his mortal enemy (very Underworld-esque). Plan to get a bit more read tonight though!
