Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments Finished Curse the Dawn by Karen Chance, it's the least confusing of the four. I did like it though.

I've just started Dark Lover again, re-reading the BDB's to get me all excited for the new one!

Lisa Hendrix (lisahendrix) | 57 comments I'm a bit behind the curve here, but this caught my eye

my jaw dropped at "horse genitalia." My word!"

LMAO, I thought it was bad enough the first time, but when the heroine made the comparison again

Um, whoever came up with the idea that slamming hard sex with some huge wang is even tolerable, much less the best sex anyone ever had/gonna force you into wild orgasmic frenzy every time?

Not.

Absolutely not.

Finesse trumps size every time. And it's more fun to read, too. //Mona Lisa smile...//

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Personally, Lisa, I think it's all about the girth.

And your description, accurate as it was, made me laugh and cringe all at the same time.

Jennifer (jen421) | 201 comments Moss, I love the Darkyn series!! It only gets better!

DarkHeart "Vehngeance" (darkheart) | 737 comments LMAO, now I worry that I may have put you all off a book that you may very well enjoy, but just wasn't to my liking. But I do feel like I've done a public service with a warning about the stallion comparisons. ;)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Please, DarkHeart...one comparison would be enough for me to put it down. I vote you acted only in public interest.

I am reading Bitten right now and really enjoying it. I didn't I could get into a werewolf story line but I am liking it more and more with each turn of the page.

message 1959: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished two today: Kiss of Midnight and Desire Unchained. Adrian's book was a no for me, just bordering a little too close to the whole BDB universe for it to feel original or interesting. The Ione book was better, but I enjoyed the first installment more. This one, strangely, almost does more world-building than Pleasure Unbound, which is weird for a second book. And also, Shade was probably the least interesting out of the three brothers to begin with, so I just wasn't as much into his story as I would have liked. I can tell Wraith's story is gonna be smokin' though, so will look forward to the third book.

Have also started Witch Blood which is looking okay so far. Nothing crazy exciting, and I'm having to control the tic I'm getting from how often things are 'magickal', but it looks like it'll deliver a fun read, if not an earth-shattering one.

Larissa Ione also writes with another author under the pen name Sydney Croft. Another really great series.

message 1961: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm about 3/4 of the way through Full Moon Rising. I wasn't sure about this book at first but it's slowly sucking me in. Riley Jenkins is a wolf/vampire half breed who, because of her wolf side spends, one week a month during the full moon phase screwing pretty much non-stop. The sex scenes aren't very graphic and not even all that satisfying but the story moves you along and I'll probably read the rest in the series. First books in a series always tend to be the weakest so I'm willing to give the next few a try.

message 1962: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Lori - The Riley Jenson series (at least to me) will give you just enough to keep you reading, but I never gave any of those books more than 3 stars. So if you're like me, you'll be compelled to keep reading for some reason, but never completely fall in love with it. My biggest complaint was that I read them back to back, and I started to notice that all her sex scenes read exactly the same. I suspect she was copy-and-pasting there for awhile.

I started Bitten by Kelley Armstrong yesterday. I'm about 150 pages in and really really liking it so far. It's been awhile since I've been hooked by a book this way, so I'm excited to keep reading!

Stav (voliotisa) | 291 comments more than halfway through Curse the Dawn and it's finally gotten a lot better....there was a whole section I really struggled to get through but I'm really enjoying it finally....may finish it tonight even

message 1965: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Witch Blood by Anya Bast. It didn't rock my world particularly but it passed the time.

Next up is either a book in the Darkyn series or Angels Blood by Nalini Singh. Looking forward to them both.

LilMisGrayBrisk | 502 comments I'm currently reading Winter's Daughter by JC Wilder. It's book one in The Coven series.

message 1967: by [deleted user] (new)

Just finished A Rush of Wings. I thought it was great, even though I had some misgivings at first.

message 1968: by [deleted user] (new)

Finished Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh. It was...interesting. I did enjoy it, with the caveat that I would have enjoyed it more if it had been just a wee smidgen longer. It felt a little rushed, but Nalini Singh always writes achingly good h/h dynamics and I'll always love her books for that.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments Took a break for a couple of days then read Larissa Ione's Pleasure Unbound. I really enjoyed it, looking forward to the next one although I believe the third one will be better.

Stav (voliotisa) | 291 comments I started A Kiss of Shadows (Meredith Gentry 1)and only about 30-40 pages in, but I like where it's going so far. Plus, it's not giving me the headache I got while reading the last Cassie Palmer, Curse the Dawn...Don't get me wrong, I love the series, but I feel that Karen Chance writes books as if they're going to be a movie, and if it was a movie, it would be a really expensive one to make, but easier to watch than to read it...never the less it was good, but not what I was expecting, and the fact that I had to struggle to keep on reading for a whole section of it...did anyone else feel that way too?

message 1972: by Michelle (new)

Holly (velvetsun) | 21 comments I just started the latest Midnight Breed novel...Veil Of Midnight by Lara Adrian. Hopefully it won't annoy me like the last book in the series did. *sigh*

message 1975: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm about 1/2 through Dark Defender. These books are okay but they don't hold a candle to the Brotherhood. I enjoy reading them but I'm not in a big hurry to read the rest of the series. They are kind of filler for me. Know what I mean?

message 1976: by [deleted user] (new)

So I got my Lynn Viehl consignment yesterday and sat down and literally inhaled three of the books: Private Demon A Novel of the Darkyn (Darkyn #2) by Lynn Viehl Night Lost A Novel of the Darkyn (Darkyn #4) by Lynn Viehl Evermore A Novel of the Darkyn (Darkyn #5) by Lynn Viehl .

I just cannot adequately express how in love with the Darkyn world I am, and what a fantastic, fantastic writer she is. Everything about her writing is compelling, finely drawn, and tense without being stretched. Her h/h relationships are beautifully balanced, and the HEA always hits the mark. And I love the continuing arc of Michael and Alex's story. I fall deeper in love with both of them with every book. I am SO pleased I persisted with the series in spite of my misgivings with the first book.

My only discontent at this point is that Viehl has called an end to the series, and I believe is writing her last Darkyn book soon. Which is no good for the universe. Planets will skew off orbit. Black holes will appear everywhere. Meteor showers will ruin crops. Keep us aligned, Lynn! Don't end the Darkyn.

Right now I am reading "Scarpetta" by Patricia Cornwell (love her books, I know they aren't paranormal but good mysteries) I also just started "Real Vampires Have Curves" by Gerry Barlett.

new_user | 1389 comments Yay! So glad you liked the books, Moss! The first book really is a bit different than the rest. She has indeed ended the series with Stay the Night, but her next series takes place in the same universe with a related plot and some appearances from the characters we love. :D

But wait, did you skip book three?! No, not Lucan! *gaspshockhorror* That's a great one! 3, 5, and 6 are my favorites (for the, ahem, heroes), but they're all great.

My order got messed up, and book 3 has been delayed. I know, right? I was livid. It looks great though and I am dying to read it when they get it to me.

Oh there's another series? Is that the Kindred one?

message 1981: by new_user (new)

Yep, the Kindred series will be the next one. You'll learn about them in the next two books. :)

Ah well, I think your glowing reviews is enough to prompt me to get back to this series. I read and enjoyed the first one and have the next two in my book case, I just haven't gotten around to reading them yet. Will have to try to work them into a May challenge.

message 1984: by Nichole (DirrtyH) (new)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Not PNR, but I'm almost done with Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and I'm enjoying it a lot. It's a really great change of pace from all the PNR and UF I've been reading.
And it's kind of a perfect fantasy - great characters on a sort of quest, but it never gets overly wordy or descriptive or dry. He keeps up the pace of the narrative really well so it never gets boring. I'll finish tonight and I'm excited to see how everything ties up.

message 1985: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished up Soul Mates Bound by Blood by Jourdan Lane. It was fun to combine my normal vampy addiction with my new m/m addiction. I have the next two in the series and will definately read on, although it looks like there will be some turmoil between the two main men, which makes me want to put it off a bit. I hate to see them not happy. I feel like it will be the New Moon of the series. Like, I know its impossible to continue a romantic series without having some type of conflict in the relationship, but it is making me nervous thinking about it.

Michelle (michelle_mc) | 371 comments I've been sorting out my books and eBooks this week so I haven't got much reading done. Today I read Ill Wind by Rachel Caine and I really enjoyed it. I was suprised, I have read the first three Morganville ones and I did like them however I always felt there was something missing.

I read my first Lora Leigh short today... It was the first in the Tempting Seals series.
I also read Angel's Pawn by Nalini Singh, which although completely different from the Psy-Changeling books, I liked it. I'm reading the next books in next months challenges.

Now I'm off to read the Wyndham Werewolf shorts (Derik's Bane is also on next month's challenges).

I know what you mean Lori. I cried during some parts of these books. With two VERY alpha men in a relationship there is bound to be some angst. It's all good though so don't worry about it too much. They always manage to find their way back to each other...with lot's of hot sex in between :)

One of the things I didn't love about Bound by Blood is that there was almost no conflict between Lucien and Peter, which seemed really unrealistic - or if there was, it was resolved really quickly, almost as though it had never happened. So I'm actually looking forward to a little "trouble in paradise."

Lori and Nichole-Well, there's the whole angst between Peter and Lucien which is to be expected. But, then there is some hinting at terrible things to come with my lovely Caleb. So, I am just psyching myslef up to deal with intense emotions before reading on. Giving myself a little breather. But, I definatly love the series so far.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) I am reading Visions of Heat by Nalini Singh right now. I'm liking it. I had started it several months ago but I just wasn't in the right mood, I guess. So far I'm liking how simple the love story has been - not a lot of unnecessary fighting and angst.

message 1995: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Yeah, Nichole, that's one of things I noticed about Singh's characters. They're very healthy compared to a lot of PNR characters, LOL. Even the supposedly emotionless ones. (That's tells you something about the rest of the PNR world, LOL.)

How far are you? I think you get more of the overarching plot in this one (the rest of the books are not like the first book with just the love story, fortunately).

Lol, very true, very true.

I actually just finished and logged on so I could cross it off from my challenge list! (So satisfying.)
I really enjoyed it. I liked the way she juxtaposed a really well thought out and skillfully constructed world with a relatively simple storyline. It worked realy well - it was complex and interesting without ever feeling drawn out or bogged down. I'm itching to read the next one, now. Sounds like it's a lot of people's favorite.

message 1997: by new_user (new)

The third book is my fave of all the Psy/Changeling books, and I adore this series and Singh's wtyle of writing. If you enjoyed Visions of Heat, Caressed by Ice would be a treat. That cold, emotionless Psy Judd burns hot like you can't believe..LOL
