And i'm not complaining. :)

Michelle | 79 comments I just finished A Rush of Wings by Adrian Phoenix. It was the first UF book I've read and it was pretty good. Now I'm reading Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank.... I'm so tired this morning! Isn't reading suppose to relax you? Not me! It keeps me up all night long so I don't get enough sleep.. hehe

The Jacquelyn Frank books were ok. As with most series, it got better as the books progressed. I liked it well enough to read them all.

message 1757: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 79 comments That's good to know. I'm in need of a good series! Though I enjoyed A Rush of Wings, it made me realize that I like PNR better than UF.

message 1758: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Michelle, I'm with you. There's only 2 UF series that seem to work for me....so I stick with PNR. It's hard cause there are tons of UF shapeshifters, and I love shifters,,, but really want the HEA to go with it.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Michelle wrote: "That's good to know. I'm in need of a good series! Though I enjoyed A Rush of Wings, it made me realize that I like PNR better than UF. "

I have A Rush if Wings as well as If Angels Burn to read. I'm working on 2 books right now, one Arthurian fantasy and the other BDB's Lover Revealed (reread)

There's one tiny thing that drives me nuts about Franks books. Exotic Milk. Something just isn't right about that.

Hey, do you happen to know how people are able to use the cross out feature when they are checking off books from their TBR lists?

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Michelle wrote: "That's good to know. I'm in need of a good series! Though I enjoyed A Rush of Wings, it made me realize that I like PNR better than UF. "

You might like them, but I just didn't connect with the characters on the same level as I did with BDB and Lora Leigh's Breeds. Maybe Frank's characters aren't tormented enough. LOL

May give her (JF) books a try then::started to read Christine Feehan(sp?) but couldn't get into them::they seemed a bit slow::with a strange storyline::if someone can convince me i'm prepared to give them another try:

Yes I'll definitely stick to PNR!

That's my prob. I've read all of BDB, Lara Adrians Midnight Breeds, Kenyons Dark Hunters... I LOVE THEM ALL! Nothing I've found compares to those men... hehe
I've just started Lora Leigh!!! I like her so far

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments CF's books are good, but her style of writing has changed thru the years. I think book 2 of her Carpathian series is what hooked me. The first one was just so so. The Drake sisters is good - they get better with each new one that comes out - but only one left I think.

I have her first book on my book shelf! I tried to read the first few chapters and I couldn't get into. I may have to give her another try

message 1765: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Michelle, the next one has a totally tortured soul. No if's and's or butt's about it. It's different, and she broke a world rule in it - but a world rule that became more prevalent later in her series, so she had to "explain the exception" in later books. I think I liked it because the first time I picked up one, it was so much like what I'd read about vampires in the past, with just enough spin on it to enjoy. I don't like the "cold and dead" kind as much, so this was kewl for me.

message 1766: by The Flooze (new)

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Jennifer, Seinfeld would be an improvement. I read the first, Accidental Werewolf, and didn't love it. Thought this one might be better. She strikes me as imitation MJD, like she's trying way too hard to meet the abrasively funny standard and falling short of the mark. I'll weigh in again when I've read more.

message 1767: by UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish (last edited Apr 09, 2009 10:44AM) (new)

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I personally really like Christine Feehan's Carpathians. Loved Gregori's story as well as Jaque's and UGH, can't think of his name.. Byron? No, he was in Scarletti Curse, a stand alone but related novel. OK, that's not right either so ignore the whole Byron issue for now. LOL

Teresa, what rule are you talking about? I'm not coming up with anything that had to be explained.

Also, my daughter loves her Ghostwalker books. Shadow Game is the first in that series, I think.

Her website is great, full of info and excerpts.

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Oh, in book 2, a secondary character sees the heroine in color. That's not supposed to happen unless they are lifemates.l

message 1769: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Or should I say, he was attracted to her and wanted to take her. That wasn't something they did, unless they were true mates and saw the woman in color. That's only in that one book I saw that happen though.

message 1770: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments Ok, I'll get this all together yet. Byron is the one who saw her in color. I his story it's explained as because they were so close as friends.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Teresa wrote: "Ok, I'll get this all together yet. Byron is the one who saw her in color. I his story it's explained as because they were so close as friends."

OK, so you're talking about one of the later novels, with Darius? As I recall, he saw her in color because they had known each other forever, since children, and were lifemates so there was never a time she wasn't in his life which is why he didn't suffer the same things the other Carpathians did. It's the woman who heals the earth...can't think of her name though, starts with an S I think.

Ok, the one I am thinking of is Barack and Syndil. Because they had been together since childhood, he never lost color at all and never lost his emotions either. Their story is Dark Celebration. Sheesh, I was going to drive myself crazy trying to figure it out.

message 1772: by Teresa (new)

Teresa (teresadamario) | 95 comments No, not that one. In Dark Desire, when she goes to the store by herself... he's back at the cabin or whatever, in pretty bad shape. Shea runs into other carpathains. One is Byron. Byron and Jacques had been best friends. Both characters were also in book 1. Byron (at least I think it was Byron) felt guilty for his friend who had been missing for years. When he saw her in the store, he said she was his mate... but she wasn't. She was Jaqcue's mate. It was something I didnt' notice when I read it, because I read them mostly in order. But on a second read I was like WHAT??? Why would he make that mistake?

I know who you are thinking, but no, not them.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish OK, thank you. IAnd yes, I was trying to recall who was Jaques' best friend, it was Byron. Thank you.

I figured out the other couple I was thinking of, it was Barack and Syndil. They were the ones who had been with Darius as children and fled the Carpathian Mountains during the slaughtering of vampires.

Josephine (tyrrel) | 43 comments I guess I am participating in the reading challenge. Thus far I have completed, 1) Passion Unleashed (Demonica #3) by Larissa Ione, 2) Heart Thief (Celta's HeartMates, #2) by Robin D. Owens, 3) Savor Me Slowly (Alien Huntress, #3) by Gena Showalter, and 4) Love Bites (Argeneau #2) by Lynsay Sands. I am reading book 5) Heart Choice (Celta's HeartMates, #4). Leaving 6) Heart Quest (Celta's HeartMates, #5), 7) Courting Midnight by Emma Holly, 8) Pure Blood (Nocturne City, #2), and 9) Lover Avenged (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #7) by J.R. Ward.

I don't know if I will survive until the 28th. I keep checking the shelves to see if someone has accidently put Lover Avenged out early. Alas, so far it's not there.

Cassandra | 6 comments Hi. I am a big fan of the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood/Southern Vampire Series. I am reading book 6 (with the were-tiger) and came to the part where Sookie states her cousin died and left her a legacy. But, I don't remember reading about a vamp cousin before. I would like to go back and reread the section I missed. Any help would be appreciated. THANKS

It's not mentioned because Sookie didn't really know what had happened to her cousin...there's a short story in some anthology that's basically about her discovering it...
I can't wait till the next book comes out AND TRUE BLOOD Season 2 starts..I love the books...Book 6 is pretty good, but Book 7 is PHENOMENAL :)

You are kidding! Charlaine Harris is mean.

message 1784: by [deleted user] (new)

The bit about her cousin Hadley is in Bite, which is an anthology of short stories by various paranormal authors. It was honestly not worth the read. I picked it up and was totally unimpressed by the Sookie story. Ive read a couple more recent shorts by Harris and they seem better, so she must be getting a handle on short story writing. Anyway, you don't really need to read the short for the rest of the books to make sense.

message 1785: by [deleted user] (new)

I just finished The Laughin Corpse (book #2 of the Anita Blake series) by Laurell K. Hamilton. I take back whatver nasty things I said about UF and Anita Blake in general. The book was very enjoyable and I look forward to reading the next in the series...although honestly, would it kill Anita to give Jean Claude just a little bit of action.

I'm reading Fantasy Lover right now. So far so good.

We would also like to take full advantage of Julian. Enjoy Fantasy Lover!

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments Fang and Amy's story is in August, and it's going to be another big tome. She's writing about their relationship from the very beginning, onwards. And it'll include that new tech introduced in Fury's short and the problems that the Were's are now facing. Should be a good one!

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish Thank you for the information! I'm really looking forward to it.

The Flooze (the_flooze) | 1593 comments So I finished Accidentally Dead and wrote an evil, scathing review. I'm not a fan.

Now reading Bit the Jackpot from Erin McCarthy. It's book 2 in her Vegas vampires series and is MUCH better than book 1. I'm laughing out loud all over the place.

message 1798: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) I'm reading Stolen and while I'm enjoying the book, it always takes me a while to get into UF. Once the action is underway I'm good. I'm procrastinating reading the next Kim Harrison book for the same reason. I get bored unless there's action, angst or intercourse LOL.

message 1799: by [deleted user] (new)

I am reading Susan Sizemore's Prime series.

Christine Feehan. I like her books, but its funny, when I first got into her carpathian series I had no idea they were about vampires. I figured it was about shapeshifters, which in a sense I guess so since they can shapeshift into whatever form they want. FOr a long time I skipped over these but looking for something different and hearing other people saying how much they liked them I finally gave her a series and try. I loved it and now I am reading anything I can get my hands on in paranormal romance

My first taste of PNR was Twilight. LOL Then Feehan's Carpathians, Dark Prince... it's been a wonderful, thrill-filled ride ever since. I can't get enough PNR!
